Modern buyers almost always have to choose between productive stuffing and high autonomy. It is extremely rare to find a compromise: thin and powerful flagships “from socket to socket” last no longer than a working day, and “long-playing” smartphones usually look unsightly and have mediocre stuffing. But sometimes there are exceptions, and users can enjoy balanced solutions. For example, which received a decent stuffing, including the latest 64-bit chipset from MediaTek, and a battery of as much as 4000 mAh.

Packing, equipment

From the outside, the box with the smartphone is unremarkable - a plain white cardboard with a glossy image of the device on the front side.

The interesting is hidden inside - rich equipment. Power unit, USB cable<=>micro USB, in-ear stereo headset, protective film on the display, additional cover for the rear panel, USB OTG cable and, of course, an envelope with documentation.

Appearance

The novelty is sold in a single blue-black color variant. When the device is tilted, the case may appear either black or purple. Together with smooth, streamlined shapes, this gives the design a bit of mystery.

The entire front panel of the P70 is covered protective glass, below it, above the display, there are light and proximity sensors, a speaker, front-camera and an LED indicator, and under the screen there are three navigation buttons (<Назад>, <Домой>And<Меню>).

On the back panel in the middle is a glossy manufacturer's logo, and in the upper left corner is the main camera along with an LED flash.

The battery is hidden under the cover (despite the apparent accessibility for the user, it is non-removable), two microSIM slots and a microSD slot.

The left side of the smartphone is empty, and the power button and volume rocker are placed on the right side.

The top end of the P70 is occupied by a 3.5 mm audio jack and a microphone, the bottom - by a speaker, a micro-USB port and another microphone.

Ergonomics

The device is made in the form of an even parallelepiped without protruding elements, but all its edges are streamlined, as a result of which the smartphone is pleasant to hold in your hands.

To make the gadget even more “graspy”, you can put on it a complete protective cover made of completely non-slip plastic with a pimply surface. Thanks to this coating, the smartphone will sit in the palm of your hand like a glove.

Screen

Talking about the screen should start with the picture improvements that MediaTek's proprietary technologies provide. One of them - ClearMotion - is responsible for increasing the real-time frame rate in the video being played (from 24-30 per second to 60). This significantly improves the smoothness of the display of the picture, although it looks rather unusual.

Another technology - MiraVision - when displaying photos and videos, adjusts the saturation, brightness and contrast of the picture, achieving it maximum quality. It also conserves battery power. This is achieved by auto-adjusting the backlight intensity of the display (depending on the ambient light) and the color gamut of the content displayed on the screen. Usually in the smartphone settings there are special items dedicated to ClearMotion and MiraVision, but we could not find such settings in this device - it is assumed that they work without user intervention.

Diagonal display Lenovo P70, manufactured using TFT IPS technology, is five inches. Despite the fact that the resolution is 1280x720 pixels (HD), individual pixels are almost impossible to see with the naked eye. The display recognizes up to five simultaneous touches.

The matrix deserves all praise: the image is bright, juicy, contrasting, with the correct color reproduction. The viewing angles are maximum: the picture is not distorted and does not even fade at any tilt. The protective glass is equipped with an oleophobic coating, thanks to which you can remove fingerprints even by simply carrying your smartphone in your pocket.

The range of P70 screen brightness adjustment is wide: the maximum level allows you to use the smartphone during the day on the street, and the minimum level will be comfortable for reading in the dark. The light sensor is quite accurate, automatic adjustment of the backlight level is very smooth, without visible jumps.

Interface

Lenovo P70 running operating system 4.4.4 KitKat. Is not latest version mobile OS from, but Lenovo's proprietary shell is so replete additional features and changed interface elements, which can not be called a disadvantage.

Surprises start right from the lock screen: Lenovo has added the ability to change the wallpaper with simple swipes from the left and right edges of the screen (including on desktops), as well as move the clock to any place. However, there are no lock screen widgets in the shell.

One of the main features Lenovo Firmware P70 - refusal of the menu of all applications. Instead, shortcuts to installed programs are added directly to desktops. Not everyone will like this approach, but you can avoid clutter on home screens by sorting applications into folders.

Most of the software chips of the smartphone are placed in a separate settings tab called "Special". These include "smart unlock" (the ability to turn on the smartphone by double tapping on the blanked display, as well as a quick photo by double pressing the button<Домой>), “smart menu” (the ability to launch applications and perform some actions by pressing a special button on top of all windows) and “in hands” mode (reducing the ringtone volume if the smartphone is in hands).

Separately, in this list, I would like to note the support for the so-called "smart scripts". In this section, you can set your smartphone to automatically perform various tasks (switching sound profiles, turning on or off wireless interfaces, launching applications, etc.) based on time or access points. For example, you can set it to include silent mode at night or off mobile internet Houses.

From proprietary utilities Lenovo smartphone has Security, SYNCit and SHAREit. The first is an antivirus with advanced features. In addition to checking downloaded files for malware in real time, Security can monitor mobile Internet traffic, prevent applications from accessing personal data (for example, location and sending messages in the background; it also has the function of creating white list for trusted programs), protect against spam and free up RAM. Security also supports features such as anti-theft, which allows you to send messages about changing the SIM card to a predetermined number and control your smartphone using SMS, as well as parental control, when enabled, you can remove from home screen up to 10 applications.

The SYNCit application is used to archive contacts, SMS and calls, and backups can be saved not only to a memory card, but also to Lenovo's own "cloud".

The latest utility, SHAREit, allows you to transfer files to high speed, however, this requires the same application to be installed on the recipient smartphone.

Other standard applications- like an explorer, a clock or a dialer - Lenovo also redesigned it in the style of its proprietary interface. But the manufacturer did not touch the keyboard - it has a standard appearance for "pure" Android.

It is worth noting a large number of third party preinstalled apps are both clients of social networks, and office programs, and games of various genres. Lenovo has done everything so that the majority of buyers of its offspring can start using the device without downloading and installing additional programs from play. In addition, most of these applications can be removed if unnecessary, so for advanced users their presence should not be a problem.

Another unusual decision of the manufacturer was the use of two "ecosystems" in the smartphone at once, from Google and from Yandex. Because of this, many applications duplicate each other in functionality - for example, "Maps" and "Yandex.Maps", Chrome browsers and Yandex. Of course, each company has its own unique services (for example, YouTube from Google and Taxi from Yandex), but such an abundance can confuse the user.

Device in operation

The Lenovo P70 is powered by an octa-core chipset from MediaTek model MT6752. It is based on 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 cores with a clock speed of 1.7 GHz, and is paired with an ARM Mali-T760 MP2 700 MHz graphics accelerator. Volume random access memory smartphone is 2 GB.

According to MediaTek, this chipset was designed "for smartphones in the upper-mid segment" and was the first built on Cortex-A53 cores. What's the use of this ordinary user? It turns out that the 64-bit ARMv8 architecture, compared to the 32-bit ARMv7 architecture, has much better power efficiency and performance. Thanks to this, the interface runs smoother, applications are more responsive, resource-demanding 3D games and players practically do not crash when playing 4K video. Combined with the resource-saving HD screen resolution, this allowed the Lenovo P70 to demonstrate very high performance at the level of current top-end smartphones.

This is confirmed by the results of benchmarks: in AnTuTu, the gadget scored 44488 points, and in 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited received 10955 points.

In addition, the new chipset from MediaTek in the near future (after updating to Android 5.0) will allow the smartphone to make the most of the features inherent in Android Lollipop, because this OS is optimized to work with 64-bit processors. Android 5.0 uses a new environment ( virtual machine) where Android apps run. As a result, applications launch and switch between them faster, and the system becomes more energy efficient.

In real tasks, we never had to face a lack of performance. The Lenovo P70 does an excellent job of playing HD video (nominally, the processor supports video playback even in 4K resolution), web surfing on busy sites and 3D games.

As for the latter, even the most demanding titles can be played on the device without any problems. No slowdowns were noted either in Asphalt 8: Airborn or in the Minion Rush runner (as you know, the developers of this game did not pay due attention to optimization, so many devices even in the middle segment can encounter lags).

Returning to the MediaTek chipset, there is one more potential benefit to mention. With the ability to work with very large numbers on a 64-bit architecture, more sophisticated and sophisticated encryption can be implemented. This can be useful both for those who deal with highly sensitive data and for a much larger number of consumers who are accustomed to making online purchases: a smartphone built on a chipset with a 64-bit architecture will be ready to support the most modern facilities protection of transactions and personal data.

The smartphone has 16 GB of internal memory, but due to the abundance of pre-installed applications after a hard reset, only 10.5 GB is available to the user. However, this should not be a problem, since the Lenovo P70 supports microSD memory cards, and is also equipped with a USB host, to which you can connect using a USB OTG cable external drives(and peripherals).

The device has only one speaker, but it turned out to be surprisingly loud. Call Lenovo P70 can be distinguished, even being on a noisy street, and music from a smartphone is heard in every corner of the apartment.

Camera

The camera app in Lenovo P70 opens quickly - 1.5 seconds, and the smartphone is ready to shoot. The program interface is familiar and intuitive: the screen contains buttons for taking photos and shooting videos, quick toggles for flash, HDR, cameras and an advanced settings button where you can turn on the timer, smile detection and face detection, as well as manually adjust the white balance, ISO and other parameters . In the lower right corner is the scene mode button, where you can find the portrait and panorama functions.

Cameras in Lenovo P70 have the following characteristics: the main module - with a 13 megapixel sensor, autofocus and LED flash, front - sensor with a resolution of 5 megapixels.

Despite the high resolution of the main camera, the quality of the pictures taken by it was still not the best. Even in daylight, photos lack sharpness and color saturation (the camera does a good job with auto white balance), and indoor photos are often blurry. Sometimes a flash can solve the problem of lack of illumination, but, nevertheless, the overall quality will satisfy only the most undemanding users. But the gadget copes with documents without problems: the text is clear and well distinguishable. Thanks to the 5 megapixel front sensor, the device is quite suitable for taking selfies, but, again, when shooting, you should take care of sufficiently good lighting.

The quality of the video recording on the Lenovo P70 is also a compromise: there is no twitchiness typical for cheap smartphones on the videos, but the image clarity is not ideal.

Wireless interfaces

Lenovo P70 supports simultaneous work with two SIM-cards, like most modern smartphones - in alternating (DSDS) mode. At the same time, the first slot supports SIM and USIM cards with data transfer via high speed networks LTE, and the second - only SIM-cards and the transmission standard is not higher than EDGE. There were no problems with communication in the device, the speed of the Internet connection in 4G is high.

Unlike others software implementations work with two SIM-cards, when a pop-up window appears to select the desired SIM card when making a call or sending a message, separate buttons are provided for this in standard messages and the Lenovo P70 dialer. This solution allows you to work faster with the device without being distracted by additional dialog boxes.

Like cellular, the rest wireless connections, including Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n (only in the 2.4 GHz band) and Bluetooth 4.0, as well as GPS and GLONASS, work flawlessly.

Offline work

Like other Lenovo P-series smartphones, the P70 model received an impressive battery capacity - as much as 4000 mAh (15.2 Wh). Another advantage of the smartphone is the Quick Charge technology available thanks to the MediaTek MT6752 chipset. It allows you to fully charge the battery in just three hours - for the battery capacity of this smartphone, this is very fast.

Even with a fairly intensive use, including calls, several hours of web surfing, running various programs and a few games, Lenovo P70 is able to work for at least two days. If you save battery power even with regular means (refusal of games, video and background synchronization), autonomy can be increased to about 3-4 days.

For maximum extension battery life on the smartphone, you can activate the "emergency mode", which turns off all background processes, only a few programs are allowed to run, including the dialer and messages, and the screen colors change to grayscale (although this doesn't make sense on an IPS display).

The results of testing autonomy under continuous loads also turned out to be quite worthy: four hours in resource-demanding games and more than 10 hours when watching video at medium brightness.

Results

The only significant drawback of the new Lenovo smartphone became the main camera. Therefore, the device can not be advised to those who take a lot of pictures. For everyone else, the Lenovo P70-A becomes one of the best offers on the market in terms of balance between the power of the filling and battery life. Agree, you rarely see a smartphone with a 64-bit eight-core processor (which can handle all modern games and has support for fast charging) and with a battery that lasts for two days of fairly active work with the device. Let's not forget about the set of accessories in the kit, and about working with two SIM-cards. At the same time, Lenovo P70 has quite affordable price at 19990 rubles, which looks especially attractive against the backdrop of fluctuations in exchange rates.

Pros:

  • high performance;
  • long battery life;
  • rich equipment;
  • support for two SIM-cards and LTE.

Minuses:

  • not very high-quality pictures of the main camera;
  • HD display.

The 5-inch Lenovo P70 is positioned as a smartphone with a capacious battery and long battery life. As a rule, devices with such characteristics, for example, Lenovo P780 or Philips Xenium W6610, are large in size. However, the manufacturer managed to find a balance - despite the large amount of battery, the smartphone turned out to be medium-sized. Device dimensions - 142 × 71.8 mm, slightly larger than Huawei Honor 6. Body thickness - up to 9.3 mm, like YotaPhone 2, it is slightly thicker than the average for the tested smartphones. The weight of the Lenovo P70 phone is 150 grams, (the weight of the Lenovo P780 and Philips Xenium W6610 are 176 and 200 grams, respectively), the 5-inch weighs almost the same samsung galaxy grand prime and YotaPhone 2.

The appearance of the Lenovo P70, in our opinion, cannot be called attractive, even the Lenovo P780 with its metal back looked more interesting. The P70 model has an angular body with rounded side edges. Speakers are located on the bottom of the device, however, the right speaker does not make sounds. The back panel of the phone collects fingerprints, although it is not glossy. The device lies well in the hand, but its corners noticeably rest against the palm.

The Lenovo P70 smartphone has a collapsible body: the cover can be easily removed, under it there is a non-removable battery, a slot for a memory card and for two micro-SIM cards. Build quality is generally good, but the removable lid snaps on tightly: it takes some effort to get it snug against the case.

The Lenovo P70 smartphone can only be purchased in dark blue.

Screen - 4.0

The P70 phone is equipped with a 5-inch IPS display with HD resolution (1280×720 pixels). The pixel density is 294 per inch, which is quite clear for a diagonal of 5 inches. The value is not much lower than the iPhone 6 or with their Retina displays.

The maximum brightness of the display turned out to be high - up to 462 cd / m2, with a margin for a bright sunny day. Minimum brightness white background at 17 cd / m2, which is bright if you use your smartphone in the dark. The display has auto-brightness, but it does not have a smooth adjustment. We checked its operation - it quickly works in the direction of increasing the brightness, but when it is necessary to dim the brightness, the display does not work immediately. In the sun, reading from the display was difficult, but not critical, in general, the image remained readable. The viewing angles of the Lenovo P70 display are not the maximum, but they are wide enough for comfortable work with a smartphone.

The display turned out to be very easily soiled - during the tests, the screen collected fingerprints. The smartphone does not have a glove mode or color settings. In our opinion, the latter feature would not hurt - the colors look flashy, especially on the proposed lock screens.

Camera

The Lenovo P70 has good cameras for a mid-price smartphone: the main one is 13 MP and the front one is 5 MP. The main camera is equipped with LED flash, autofocus, HDR mode, 3D model shooting mode, face and smile detection, panorama shooting and much more. Compared to the top Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, there are fewer different modes and settings, although it is possible to adjust the sharpness, saturation, tint, etc. The camera interface can be called simple and clear, you do not have to look for the desired settings for a long time.

The maximum photo resolution is 4160×3120 pixels. The camera shoots Full HD video at 30 frames per second. When recording video, we did not detect tracking autofocus. Audio is recorded in stereo.

The photo quality is not high for a 13 MP camera, the same Huawei Honor 6 or Lenovo Vibe X2 shoot better. Autofocus does not always work clearly the first time, it is advisable to take several shots. The camera does not cope well with uneven lighting, many objects in the photo are highlighted. In such cases, you can resort to the HDR mode (to improve the detail of shadows and highlights in the frame). In low light, the camera starts to make a lot of noise. In terms of detail and sharpness, it is inferior to many cameras. You will be able to “grab” and capture a specific detail, but at the cost of uneven frame sharpness. You can only make a good shot with uniform lighting, and not always on the first try.

The 5 MP front camera of the phone is here, rather, not for video calls, but for selfies. The camera does not have autofocus or flash. The front camera shoots video in 640×480 resolution at 30 frames per second. You can take selfies in Portrait mode with face beautification or effects such as sepia. In general, the front camera does its job well.

Photo from camera Lenovo P70 - 2.9

Working with text - 3.0

As a rule, Lenovo smartphones have a standard keyboard from Google, even top models. On the Lenovo P70 phone, manufacturers also limited themselves to a regular keyboard. In general, the keyboard Google is good. When typing, you can use continuous text input (Swype) and switch between languages using a separate key. Note that the icons do not have markings for additional characters, but numbers can be entered from the top row of keys. In addition, there are such standard features as blocking obscene words, word suggestion, sound / vibration feedback on keystrokes, etc.

Internet - 3.0

Two browsers are preinstalled on the Lenovo P70 smartphone: Google Chrome and "Yandex.Browser". The first one has support for synchronizing tabs with the desktop version of the browser, fitting text to a pre-selected size. The second one has a Turbo mode for fast page loading. Taking a screenshot of the entire page, reading mode or automatic text fitting is not here. As tests have shown, the smartphone copes well with several open tabs, works quickly and practically "does not slow down".

Communications - 2.6

If the Lenovo P780 smartphone had a simple dial wireless connections, then the Lenovo P70, in comparison, has support for LTE (Cat 4 up to 150 Mbps). The phone does not have an NFC chip or an infrared port. At the same time, the P780 model had dual-band Wi-Fi, which the novelty does not have. The smartphone has bluetooth module with A2DP profile support for audio and A-GPS.

The phone has two Micro-SIM card slots, a memory card slot and a Micro-USB connector. The USB connector does not support MHL or SlimPort, but you can connect peripheral devices (mouse, keyboard, HDD and other).

Multimedia - 3.0

Multimedia features Lenovo P70, in our opinion, is average. The smartphone supports common video formats and codecs, plays video in high quality, up to Full HD video. However, in our tests it could not run, for example, FLV, WMV, and 2Ki 4K video, which is not surprising. There is no choice of subtitles and audio tracks or any wide settings in the built-in video player.

The audio player plays popular MP3 and AAC formats, as well as WAV, but does not play AC3, WMAV2 and FLAC (the latter can be launched through the file manager). The smartphone is preinstalled with standard applications for video and audio, for example, Google Play Music that can not be called the most comfortable.

Sound quality is generally average. There were no headphones included with Lenovo P70.

Battery - 4.2

Battery life is perhaps the main advantage of a smartphone. Lenovo P70 is equipped with a 4000 mAh battery. Formal capacity is not everything, the smartphone performed well in tests for battery life. The Lenovo P70 played HD video at maximum brightness for 11 hours! This is one of best results in our tests, only Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (12 hours 30 minutes) and Philips Xenium W6610 (12 hours 20 minutes) lasted longer. In the mode of listening to music lasted 95 hours or almost four days. In the “medium” intensity mode (checking mail, Wi-Fi on, about an hour of games a day, watching one movie, a couple of calls, browsing, listening to music on headphones), we had enough smartphone for 2-2.5 days of work. If you connect the power saving modes, set the brightness lower, then you can easily get about three days of work - the result is impressive.

Performance - 3.1

The device uses a new eight-core 64-bit MediaTek MT6752 platform - all cores operate at a frequency of up to 1.7 GHz. The Mali-T760MP2 is responsible for the graphics, the amount of RAM is 2 GB. Smartphone performance at a high level - in our tests, the smartphone coped well with benchmarks and most heavy games.

The Lenovo P70 phone is fast with built-in apps and more. You will be able to actively "surf" the network with several open tabs. We only note that the camera could be loaded faster. The smartphone can be considered as a gaming platform, but the "stuffing" is not optimized for all games. So, the games NOVA 3, Dead Trigger, Modern Combat 5 or Minion Rush run smoothly on a smartphone. What can not be said about Asphalt 8, which "slows down" at high settings. However, it is also possible to play it, albeit with minor difficulties.

In benchmarks, the Lenovo P70 smartphone showed strong results, not much lower than the flagships of 2014. In the AnTuTu benchmark, it received points comparable to the results of the Sony Xpeira Z3 Compact - 44325 points. Ice Storm Unlimited by 3DMark is slightly lower - an average of 10860 points, almost like Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Memory - 3.5

The built-in memory of the Lenovo P70 smartphone is 16 GB, of which about 11.8 GB is available to the user. Most users will have enough of these indicators, but if you shoot a lot, store music or video, download games, this will not be enough. However, you can always buy a memory card (up to 32 GB is supported).

The smartphone has a removable smartphone cover, however, hot swapping of the memory card is not supported - Lenovo P70 needs to be rebooted after manipulating the micro-SD card.

Peculiarities

Smartphone Lenovo P70 runs on Android 4.4.4 and a proprietary shell from Lenovo. The manufacturer plans to update the OS to Android 5.0 Lollipop in mid-2015. The phone is pre-installed with Google services, applications from Yandex, a utility for “cleaning” and optimizing a smartphone, the Security application, a file manager, and a number of others. There are also separate "special" settings where you can find a number of unusual modes, such as lowering the ringer volume when you pick up the phone, and other "smart" functions.

The main features of the device are battery capacity and battery life, productive stuffing, LTE support, dimensions and weight. These characteristics were lacking in previous devices with long battery life. Among the pluses, we note a collapsible case and support for two SIM-cards.

Positioning

In Lenovo, the P-series has always included devices with large batteries, suffice it to recall a model such as the Lenovo P780, in which the battery was 4000 mAh.

This series was deservedly in demand, as it included such hard workers, phones without pretensions to frills in the field of design, working for a long time, with average characteristics for their time. That is, devices with optimal, according to Lenovo, price / quality ratio, moreover, focused on those who are not used to changing phones like gloves. It was assumed that the life of such devices will be at least one year in one hand, or even all two.

I'll tell you a little secret, any characteristic that stands out from the usual for the market, whether it's the thickness of the case, the special brightness of the screen, large capacity battery - all this attracts attention. Usually, manufacturers do not try to be generous so that in the models of the middle segment they give the consumer a lot of outstanding characteristics - just one is enough, which will emphasize the unusualness of the device. Therefore, as a rule, the solution turns out to be unbalanced - thinness turns into a short operating time, a large battery - on the contrary, inconvenient dimensions of the case and a long charging time. There is no ideal on the market, and it is hardly possible.

When companies start experimenting with mid-range models, they rarely come up with something really worthwhile. They look at competitors, at previous models, as a result, a cross between a bulldog and a rhinoceros enters the market and becomes not very popular. Sometimes, through experimentation and luck, a device is obtained that, with good reason, can be called special. It is distinguished by the exact balance of characteristics, the right price, and as a result, an excellent price / quality ratio. This device is Lenovo P70.

This is the Android workhorse that will be chosen for good time work, fast charging, good screen. One could call this device a universal solution, but it lacks the smallest thing - a high-quality camera. This flaw may stop many from buying the P70, but if you close your eyes to it, then the model turned out to be surprisingly interesting. However, let's talk about everything in order.

Smartphone video review:

Design, dimensions, controls

Outside of China, this model will be available in one color scheme - dark blue, while in the home market it is presented in white and dark brown.

Externally, the device does not make any impression, the usual rectangle of an Android smartphone, black front panel, three touch keys below the screen. The first thing you notice is the rather thin body, if you know that there is a 4000 mAh battery inside. Dimensions of the device - 142x71.8x8.9 mm, weight - 149 grams. Usually models with such batteries weigh about 200 grams, so the weight of 149 grams looks amazing. In everyday life, you always feel it, the device does not differ much from modern smartphones. You can say that it is not so thin, but this is already taste. Usually you do not perceive it as large or uncomfortable, it lies well in the hand, the weight is rather big, but quite comfortable.

Compared to Nokia Lumia 830

The back cover is removable, it must be carefully snapped into place, otherwise it will crunch in your hands. The plastic is thin, but this does not cause any problems, it is not visible from the outside, and this moment does not affect the characteristics of the device. Everywhere weight savings to reach those same 149 grams.

On the right side there is an on / off key, a paired volume control key. At the top end there is a 3.5 mm jack, at the bottom there is a microUSB connector.

The rear panel houses an LED flash, as well as a 13-megapixel camera lens.

There are no complaints about the build quality, it is plastic, the front panel is covered with Gorilla Glass, although the oleophobic coating is average in terms of characteristics, there are noticeable handprints and cheek marks on it.

Under back cover you can see two microSIM slots, they are not equal, one is 2G only while the other one is 2G/3G/4G. There is also a slot for memory cards.

Display

The screen is 5-inch, has an HD resolution of 1280x720 pixels (294 dots per inch), IPS. It has a good margin of brightness, in the automatic adjustment mode, the brightness is greatly muted in order to achieve a longer operating time. This is convenient in almost all modes of operation, except for watching video. In terms of color reproduction, the screen does not stand out in its class, either for the worse or for the better. This is a very good decision. In older Lenovo models, screens may have a higher resolution, but often worse color reproduction, lower brightness. This matrix in every sense can be considered the golden mean. She's not bad. Look at the screenshots in comparison with the Samsung Galaxy S5 (on photo Galaxy S5 on top).

On the street, the screen does not glare, the information is well read. Traditionally for Lenovo there is a choice of fonts of different sizes, which makes using the phone comfortable regardless of your visual acuity (four preset sizes). I would like more flexibility in the settings, for example, different variants color range. But it was not worth expecting this on such a device.

Battery

Battery technology has clearly come a long way in the last year, with the size of the battery slightly reduced, but most importantly, its weight has been reduced. Li-Ion battery, it is non-removable, with a capacity of 4000 mAh (in China and Indonesia 3900 mAh).

Let's start with the most interesting, namely the charging time. There is support for Quick Charge technology, respectively, the total charging time is about 3 hours. If you take the Fast Charger from the Galaxy Note 4, then the charging time will be 2 hours and 10 minutes (up to one hundred percent!). In any case, it is clearly comparable to most modern devices and very little for a battery of this capacity.

Of the unusual chips, I note the presence of a USB-OTG cable, to which you can connect any cable for charging to the USB connector, you will get 5V, 0.5A at the output, that is, the phone can act as an external Charger. I am sure that few will take advantage of this opportunity, but it is present and can sometimes be useful.

Now let's look at real time work in different modes, but first - the data provided by the manufacturer:

up to 34 days standby (2G)

up to 46 hours talk time in 2G (up to 18 hours in 3G)

In my use case, the screen was automatically backlit, I made calls for about 30 minutes a day, also about 2-2.5 hours a day. in social networks, the Internet, both through a 3G / 4G connection (mainly) and Wi-Fi. The device worked quietly for two full days.

I wonder what I have on hand Motorola Droid Turbo, which has an almost identical 3900 mAh battery, also has fast charging, but the screen is AMOLED. However, these devices last about the same time in my hands, two days. For comparison, my Note 4 (battery 3220 mAh) pulls only one day with a similar load. In every sense, the P70 demonstrates a very good battery life. But even here, not everything is clear, as some modes consume unexpectedly a lot of energy compared to others. So, I expected that with the maximum brightness of the backlight, the video playback time (AVI, MX Player, HW mode) would be about 14-15 hours, as on Droid Turbo, but the result was disappointing - about 10.5 hours. I checked again, there is no error - the battery consistently gives out 10-10.5 hours of playback.

The optimization for games is even worse, as soon as 3D appears, the phone starts to noticeably warm up, which is not observed in normal operating modes, and it only works for about 4 hours. That is, 1000 mAh is eaten in an hour of play. Considering that the screen has not the largest diagonal, all this does not look like the best optimization of the chipset for specific tasks.

But for those who do not play, watch moderate video (50 minutes a day), this device will last for those very two days. Another point, there is a setting in the power manager that by default turns on the maximum power saving mode from 12 am to 6 am. In this mode, data transfer is disabled, only calls and SMS are available. If you do not like this approach, then you can either adjust the time interval, or disable this mode altogether.

Platform, memory, performance

The model is based on the MediaTek MT6752 chipset, this is a second-generation 8-core solution, which is aimed at models of the middle price group. Of the nice features - each core is Cortex A53, the frequency is up to 1.7 GHz (64 bits). The Mali-T760 graphics coprocessor, and for the first time for a MediaTek chipset of this class, has built-in support for LTE cat. 4 (FDD, TDD declared, but not specifically implemented in this model). The amount of RAM - 2 GB, built-in - 16 GB, available to the user 12 GB.

While a microSD card slot is accessible under the back cover, hot-swappable cards, unlike SIM cards, are not supported. If you insert a memory card into a working device, it will happily announce that hot swapping is not for it, and it will reboot. It's insulting and somehow a bit conservative. Another downside is that the specs only list support for memory cards up to 32GB. Tried both 64GB and 128GB cards, they don't work. This will not be a very serious limitation for many.

Now let's focus on performance. Judging by the interface, everything is very good here, no brakes, everything is smooth and pleasant. In synthetic tests, the device shows average results, they are not very high. But that's what these tests exist for, to show virtual parrots. I am sure that for the vast majority of people, the performance of this solution will be enough. It sits between Snapdragon 400 and 600 series.

Communication options

The smartphone works in GSM, HSDPA and LTE (4G) networks and is equipped with two slots for microSIM cards. The first slot supports LTE FDD (bands 1, 3, 7, 20), so in Russia the device works without problems with 4G networks.

The second slot is mainly for the SIM card that you plan to call, but it can also be used for data transfer. True, only with the help of 2G (Edge).

USB. For synchronization with a PC and data transfer, the included microUSB cable is used. USB 2.0 interface. USB-OTG is supported - you can connect flash drives and other drives with file systems FAT/FAT32.

bluetooth. Built-in Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP profile support.

Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n). The smartphone has a dual-band Wi-Fi module, it works flawlessly. Like any other modern Android device, Lenovo P70 supports the function of "sharing" mobile Internet via Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi router).

Camera

The usual 13-megapixel autofocus module produces disappointing shots that don't even look good on a phone screen. However, you can verify this for yourself.

Software features

The device comes out on Android 4.4.4, in this moment this is the latest version of the OS. All the features of the Android add-on used called Vibe UI are described in a separate article. I will not repeat myself.

It remains an open question whether there will be an update to version 5.0. From the point of view of the chipset, such an update is supported. But whether it will be available for this model is unknown. But the company is trying to update its key models, P70 is one of them. There is no timeline or what the update will look like (cable, over the air) yet.

Multimedia features

Traditionally, there is FM radio, sound recording from the air is supported.

There is no separate player for playing music, only Google Play Music. Everything is traditional and familiar, but there is a hardware equalizer, you can adjust the sound for yourself. The phone sounds nice, although nothing special stands out. The maximum volume level is comfortable, although the device definitely does not have a margin.

The video features support for the H.265 codec, otherwise everything is familiar and ordinary.

Impression

The ringer volume is slightly above average, you can hardly hear the phone in the outerwear pocket. The vibrating alert is average in strength. There are no comments on the quality of connection, everything works well, although there are often re-registrations from 4G to 3G and vice versa, at least according to the indicator. I think the latter is lying, since in practice there is no increased battery discharge.

Now let's dwell on the cost of this solution. In China, Lenovo P70 costs 1500 yuan, but at the same time it has slightly worse characteristics, it is a de facto different model. The European model P70-A has maximum performance, its cost will be about 250 dollars (alternatively, the price in euros will be slightly less or the same). In Russia, this model, before the exchange rate fluctuations of the ruble, should have become price range 12-14 thousand rubles, but what will be the price at the end of February, when it appears, is unknown. For reference, take the same $250 plus the Russian markup of 20-25 percent.

For its cost, the model turned out to be well balanced, potentially it may be of interest to many buyers. A good screen, the presence of a large 4000 mAh battery with a modest body size and really long work from one charge. There are not many analogues on the market that are similar in characteristics, just remember the Philips W6618, which has a 5300 mAh battery, but all other characteristics are worse - 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of internal memory, a 5-inch screen with qHD resolution and a price of about $ 200 . Low price does not atone for its shortcomings, including a weight of 200 grams. It feels like a device of a completely different class.

In Russia, the Chinese model Gionee GN185 is also known under various local names, in which the battery is 4200 mAh. Of the minuses - the old platform, weight 195 grams, noticeably worse performance.

By the time the Lenovo P70 appears, many companies will update their lines, new generation devices with high-capacity batteries will appear. In each case, you need to look at the presence of fast charging, the weight of the device - these are the main indicators for such devices.

If the Lenovo P70 had a slightly better camera, this device could definitely be called a bestseller, but for now it is a very good contender for the role of a hard worker. Working time, a good screen - these are the arguments in his favor. The model is successful, and it will definitely find its consumer.

The hero of today's review is in many ways similar to the P780 model and, in fact, is its continuation. It is also equipped with a capacious 4000 mAh battery and a five-inch HD screen. But the rest of its characteristics have changed significantly. Let's see what the Lenovo P70 smartphone has to offer.

Appearance and usability

Externally, the Lenovo P70 looks quite strict, the case looks like a dark blue bar with a rather sharp corners and a protruding screen module.

The screen itself has an oleophobic coating, thanks to which not only does the finger slide easily on the display, but it also does not collect fingerprints. At the top is the front camera lens, proximity and light sensors, earpiece, notification LED, and the manufacturer's logo, which is slightly darkened so as not to distract from the display.

Under the screen are backlit hardware touch keys. On the right side there is a volume rocker and a power button, which are made of metal-like plastic.

The left side is empty.

At the top end there is a 3.5 mm audio jack and an additional microphone.

On the bottom there are decorative meshes, while under the left is a speaker, and under the right is the main microphone, in the center is a USB connector.

On the back side is the lens of the main camera with a flash and the manufacturer's logo.

In general, the smartphone looks rather boring.

The back cover is made so that it floats on the sidewalls. To remove it, there is a small incision on the right side. Removing the cover, we get access to the microSD memory card and two SIM-cards of the microSIM format. But the battery is not so easy to change, because it is non-removable.

Thanks to the thoughtful layout of the mechanical keys, using the smartphone with one hand is not difficult. Don't forget about software features branded shell, which will greatly facilitate daily use.

Interface and Shell

In general, at first glance, the Lenovo P70 shell is no different from the one used in Vibe smartphones, but it lacks advanced screen settings. Otherwise, everything is already well known from other devices of the company. Also, it is worth noting the sub-item in the "Special" settings. Here are the settings that will make some moments of control literally intuitive.

Hardware platform

The Lenovo P70 is the first smartphone based on the MediaTek MT6752 processor that came to our review. By the number of announced smartphones based on this processor, we can conclude that we have a rather popular platform in the future. While we have not delved into the specifications of the processor, it is worth mentioning that there are two modifications of the smartphone - Lenovo P70-A (European version) and Lenovo P70-t (Chinese version). The latter uses a quad-core MT6732 processor, no support for 3G and 4G outside of China, 1 GB of RAM and only 8 GB of internal memory, expandable through the use of microSD memory cards. The European version with the Lenovo P70-A index came to our review.

The MediaTek MT6752 is a 64-bit octa-core processor with support for mid-range ARMv8-A instructions. All eight cores are ARM Cortex-A53 and clocked at 1.7GHz. Also, do not forget about the ARM Mali-T760 MP2 video accelerator. It contains 16 graphics cores with a frequency of 700 MHz. By default, the processor supports 16-megapixel cameras and plays Ultra HD. The amount of RAM is 2 GB, and the built-in 16 GB (available 11.94) with the possibility of increasing through the use of microSD memory cards.

Unfortunately, the smartphone is based on the operating Android systems 4.4.4, so the processor could not reach its full potential, since this version The OS does not support working with processors in 64-bit mode. But, nevertheless, the results of synthetic tests are very impressive, as for a non-flagship device.

To control the synthetic tests, we checked the real performance on the example of such games as: Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, N.O.V.A. 3: Freedom, Red Bull Air Race The Game and Real Racing 3. All of these games run smoothly even at maximum graphics settings. As a result, we can say with confidence that the device easily copes not only with everyday tasks, but also with demanding games.

Another advantage of the new processor is support for dual-mode LTE (Release 9, Category 4), which allows you to work in the LTE network around the world. And don't forget about dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth version 4.0. But there is no NFC module. When working with navigation applications, there were no comments. Satellites are found quickly, even without an internet connection.

As mentioned above, at the hardware level, the processor supports Ultra HD video playback, but we still used the AnTuTu Video Tester synthetic test, which showed that the standard player could not open mkv (2K) video. But to be honest, not everyone will need this opportunity, since the screen resolution of the smartphone is only HD.

autonomy

The Lenovo P70 is equipped with a 4000 mAh non-removable battery, which is very good considering the thickness of 8.9 mm. Unfortunately, not the final sample came to us for review, so the results may differ, since in our case it was not possible to achieve high autonomy, but first things first.

In mode normal use with automatic display brightness turned on, active data transfer via WiFi networks/GSM, a small number of calls and about an hour of play, the smartphone lasted 2 days. Agree, the indicator is not outstanding. In the autonomy tests presented in the table, the results of Lenovo P70 are slightly higher than the competitors, but not by much.

Screen

Lenovo P70 is equipped with a five-inch IPS display with HD resolution (1280x720) and an automatic brightness sensor. It does not have an air gap, as it is made using OGS technology. The screen is covered with a protective glass with a good oleophobic coating, which perfectly resists the appearance of fingerprints, and if they occur, it is easy to clean. It should be noted that thanks to this coating, the screen sensitivity is excellent.

On the street, the display behaves well, but no more. Yes, the picture remains readable, but the manufacturer did not consider it necessary to add a high-brightness mode, which is well known about other products of the company.

Display calibration measurements showed that the maximum brightness is at the level of 340 cd / m2, and the minimum is 8.9 cd / m2. Contrast 1:1223. The color temperature is almost at the reference level of 6500K. The gamma curve deviates only slightly from the ideal value of 2.2. The color gamut is slightly higher than sRGB, but nevertheless the screen is quite good. Yes, the maximum brightness could have been higher, but the rest of the indicators and the subjective impression say that the screen turned out to be good.

cameras

The smartphone is equipped with two cameras: front 5 megapixel and main 13 megapixel with flash. The camera interface is well known from other models of the manufacturer. There is a mass advanced settings and modes. Among which appeared “Shooting a 3D model”. The result is something like a short video, not a photo, so there is no significant value in this function. Of course, do not forget that the main camera can take photos in HDR mode.

The quality of pictures taken with the main camera in sufficient lighting conditions is good. The photo has the same sharpness throughout the frame. The white balance is mostly correct, but not always. Shooting at night has some problems, as the pictures are quite soapy and noisy. In HDR mode, pictures suffer from excessive sharpness and noise. But the front camera will not please lovers of taking selfies, but for Skype its capabilities are more than enough.

conclusions

Apart from the capacious battery, the Lenovo P70 is by all accounts a mid-range smartphone. Him good set options, but boring design and autonomy just below the model previous generation. As for the cost of the P70 in Ukraine, nothing specific can be said yet, it will definitely be cheaper Lenovo Vibe Z2, but at the same time more expensive than $220 (the cost of the Chinese version of Lenovo P70-t). The start of sales in Ukraine is expected in March, and then we will see how much the device will be priced.
