Review Huawei Honor 6X

Huawei Honor 6X is one of the bestsellers of the lower part of the mainstream price list (cheaper than 15,000 rubles) and, by far, the best Chinese smartphone of 2017 in its price category.

Smartphones of the Honor brand, aimed at promotion in Europe and North America, traditionally have a very decent design, excellent quality builds and features that exceed the expectations of buyers in the "lower middle" class.

The all-metal Honor 6X received the best mid-price processor from Hisilicon, impressive autonomy and decent optics. The "average gentleman's set" in the form of a dacto scanner, a dual main camera and a display on an advanced IPS matrix are also present.

That is, Huawei follows the path of Apple and achieves outstanding chip performance, periodically setting records in benchmarks. Hisilicon Kirin processors are never worse than their “classmates”, and as part of devices they regularly outperform analogs from MediaTek and Qualcomm in performance.

Contents of delivery

The device comes in a spectacular bright blue box, the entire design of which is reduced to the presence of a colored liner and a concise inscription Honor 6X on the lid. The smartphone is on a separate cradle. As a bonus from the manufacturer, the screen is covered with a stock protective film of very good quality.

In addition to the smartphone, the package includes a 5V/2A charger, a USB/miniUSB sync cable, instructions, a warranty card, and a paper clip.

Design

Honor 6X obviously continues the design tradition of the previous model, which became the best-selling in foreign markets Chinese smartphone last year. The overall design leaves the feeling of a professional compilation best smartphones mid-price and sub-flagship segments, which has become a feature of most mass A-brand phones. Everything is concise, very soundly, nothing superfluous or unexpected.

The front panel is covered with 2.5D tempered glass with a good oleophobic coating. The display bezels are very thin, all front panel buttons are made on-screen. Above the display are standard indicators, proximity and light sensors (this sensor in the management of Honor 6X is assigned special role, which is discussed below), a neat slot for the earpiece and a selfie camera eye. Below the display is the brand logo.

On the rear panel, in a streamlined metal frame, there is a dual main camera module, to the right of it is a flash eye, below it in the center is a dacto scanner, endowed with some functions for managing a smartphone before unlocking. Top and bottom - dielectric antenna inserts.

The arrangement of elements on the ends can be considered classic: on the right side of the “rocker” are the volume settings and the lock button, on the left side there is an extractable tray for SIM cards and a microSD memory card. On the upper edge there is a mini-jack (thank you, Honor, for not saving on paper clips) and a noise reduction microphone point. On the bottom in the center is a USB port (USB-C was spared), to the right and left of it are gratings: one hides a multimedia speaker, and the second can be considered decorative, because there is only a conversational microphone under it. Double grilles are made for beauty and symmetry.

The manufacturer offers a choice of three colors of anodized aluminum cases: silver and gold with white front panels, as well as dark gray with a black panel on which the IPS display frame is not visible. On phones with white front panels, the situation is saved by dark background screensavers, in which the frame hated by many “dissolves”.

Display

Technologies for the production of OLED and IPS matrices develop and evolve in parallel, as they have formed armies of fans: lovers of bright and contrasting colors prefer organic LEDs and flawless black, in turn, connoisseurs of natural color reproduction prefer IPS displays with reference white.

Honor 6X received a 5.5-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) IPS-matrix, which has increased viewing angles, excellent color reproduction and almost no black inversion when the screen is tilted. For the mid-price segment, this is a very advanced option. Full HD resolution of 1920×1080 at 403 ppi guarantees excellent picture quality under various lighting conditions.

With the illumination of the Honor 6X, not everything is so simple. In order to achieve high autonomy of the device, the manufacturer set up automatic screen brightness control quite pragmatically: the maximum 450 nits is achieved only in bright sunlight (there is no backlight). In everyday mode, the automatic does not raise the brightness above 40% of the maximum, so the colors on the screen look soft and slightly muted. The option can be abandoned by returning the brightness control to manual mode, but then autonomy will suffer.

Battery

The smartphone has a 3340 mAh lithium-ion battery, which, combined with an energy-efficient processor and a “cut off” display brightness, guarantees more than 2 days of comfortable use in mixed usage (calls, surfing, music, data updates).

The manufacturer guarantees up to 70 hours of audio broadcasting and up to 8 hours in game mode, again with automatic display brightness adjustment.

But as such fast charging Honor 6X does not - the time to fully recharge the battery is almost 3 hours. Although the manufacturer positions such a charging duration as quite suitable for the definition of “fast”.

Performance

The heart of the smartphone is Huawei's own octa-core Kirin 655 chipset, based on a 16nm process technology and big.LITTLE dual-cluster technology. Both clusters contain 4 Cortex-A53 cores: in the productive they are overclocked to 2.4GHz, in the efficient - up to 1.7GHz.

Responsible for graphics processing dual core processor Mali-T830, which operates at a frequency of 600 MHz and confidently pulls any resource-intensive games, although some of them are on reduced graphics settings.

In the antutu benchmark, a device equipped with 3/32GB RAM/ROM scores 57×231 points, which is not bad for the middle class, but does not reflect the real performance when working with applications. The test is also synthetic, in order to produce some abstract "puzomerki" suitable for speculative comparison.

Camera

The dual main camera module is built on one of the best in the world, a 12-megapixel Sony IMX386 sensor and a 2-megapixel auxiliary telephoto lens. The camera has instant phase detection autofocus, including on moving objects, supports all popular shooting modes, including background blur.

The high quality of images in the automatic adjustment mode (there is also a manual one for professionals) is ensured by software online image processing. In fact, the main camera of the Honor 6X can be considered one of the best in mid-price smartphones.

The selfie camera is pretty standard and built around an 8-megapixel sensor, which is enough for great self-portraits and videos.

Conclusion

The Honor 6X smartphone is a very worthy successor to the Huawei mid-price line, which has practically no analogues in terms of price / quality / performance ratio. You can buy Honor 6X for a child, as a gift, and for yourself to enjoy the convenience of using the EMUI shell. The manufacturer promptly updates the versions of the OS and the shell, which is similar in ideology and functionality to the popular Flyme and greatly simplifies communication with the smartphone. The dacto scanner has been improved in comparison with the previous version and has an almost instantaneous response of 0.3 seconds. Navigation through A-GPS is also lightning fast. Honor 6X has no obvious disadvantages at all. Huawei really manages to make competitive mid-range phones at a very competitive price.

Advantages:

Excellent IPS-matrix without an air gap with excellent viewing angles and a choice of shades; High brightness backlight; Excellent loud call without rattling; Excellent conversational speaker with a low volume level (despite the thin case, no one else will hear the conversation in the room), a good maximum volume level; Good autonomy (6 hours of screen on a 3G network, on average, there is enough charge for 2 days); Catches 4G where other LTE devices puff on 3G; good camera with Sony IMX386 sensor, excellent light and color reproduction, fast autofocus, rich night mode, in which you can get bright and saturated images without noise, and thanks to the second camera you can get the effect of depth of field (at first it delights and pleases, there will be something to fill Instagram); Video recording with excellent separate stereo sound; Dictaphone recording in stereo; Bright flash; Excellent front camera with various effects and 1080P/30FPS video recording capability; Quick fingerprint with additional features: swipe on the scanner to open the curtain, answer a call, flip through photos in the gallery. Notification LED in various colors: green, yellow, red, white, blue, cyan; Scratch-resistant screen (for six months of using the phone without films, one scratch due to the fact that the phone was crushed with keys); The presence of OTG (connect flash drives safely); Stylish interface with many settings and the ability to install deeply changing the interface (the lower curtain that slides out on the lock screen with voice recorder and flashlight buttons is generally a miracle); Functional gallery with photos displayed on the map; Extended possibilities of work in a cover and a pocket; Smooth auto brightness; Fast GPS with GLONASS; High performance and multitasking, does not heat up in games; A minimum of software junk, a lot of built-in useful applications; Regular updates, upgrade to Android 7; Operational Russian support.

Flaws:

High level of blue radiation of the screen (whatever shade of the screen is chosen, it will be blue); Bright screen backlight at minimum brightness (despite the night mode, the eyes will still get tired and hurt); On the street at temperatures below 0, blue "traces" are visible on the screen when scrolling; high SAR level(despite the fact that the phone catches 4G convincingly and tends to switch to best network, it may suddenly lose connection out of the blue, probably software problem); often scans the network, which is why the network module consumes a lot of battery; Low camera sharpness: grass in the pictures in the "soap", no edging of objects is visible, the pictures look like watercolors (however, even the iPhone 7 Plus suffers from this); Dead HDR (no difference from normal shot) 120 fps slow motion mode for show - all this is filmed in 640x480 resolution and looks terrible in 2017; The EMUI interface is the most serious drawback. The interface is so shoveled that it’s very difficult to use after pure Android, and it’s okay if the changes were cosmetic, but no: traffic accounting only for the last month; in the call interface, to see what time they called the day before yesterday, it is immediately impossible, while stupid information about the duration of the call is under each call. Lock screen without the ability to install widgets, third-party players will not have control from the lock screen; confusing and illogical hierarchy of settings, everything you need is generally pushed into one section. Lots of related bugs. Wi-Fi Direct only works with Huawei devices; Castrated Google Smart Lock; The screen brightness sensor is so sensitive that on the street at night, passing under a 15-meter lantern, the brightness is twisted to the maximum, and as you pass the lantern, it drops; Belated auto-brightness sensor: when they call and the phone is in your pocket, you can't immediately see who is calling (due to the smoothness of auto-brightness); Muted audio output via AUX; SIM section combined with a memory card.

Review of Huawei Honor 6X 32Gb+4Gb Dual LTE Gold

The Honor line split off from Huawei into a separate brand to compete with mid-range devices, namely those devices that offer smartphones with good stuffing and premium appearance for relatively little money. Last year, Honor released a model that won a lot of attention and achieved big sales- Honor 5X. But time goes by, everything is improving, and today I have a descendant of 5X on my review - Huawei Honor 6X. Let's see what it is like and whether it can adequately take the place of its much-selling predecessor.

The design of the smartphone is not surprising. It is pleasant and cute in appearance, but at the same time simple. The body is made of metal. Also in the upper and lower parts we see plastic inserts.

The location of all controls is standard. On the right side there is a lock button and a volume rocker. On the left side there is a slot for two SIM cards or one SIM and one memory card.

At the top end there is a 3.5 mm audio jack and a microphone for noise reduction. And on the bottom is micro usb port, the main speaker of the smartphone, and the conversational microphone.

The rear panel here is equipped with a dual main camera, the eyes of which are placed on a pedestal protruding above the panel. Its surface is covered with symmetrical circular furrows. There is also an LED flash and a fingerprint scanner.

The front panel is covered with 2.5D glass with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. There is a speaker, a front camera, sensors and an LED event indicator. There are no touch keys under the display, they are on-screen here.

The smartphone is produced in the following colors: gold, silver, dark gray, blue and pink. Assembled Honor 6X is excellent and causes only positive comments. In terms of ergonomics, I can say that, like all smartphones with a metal back, it slips out of the hand a little. Otherwise, there are no complaints. The device measures 150.9 x 76.2 x 8.2 mm and weighs 162 grams.

The front panel, among other things, accommodates a 5.5-inch display whose resolution was 1920x1080 pixels, and the pixel density is 401 ppi per inch. The display quality is high. We see maximum viewing angles, excellent color reproduction and a good margin of maximum brightness. Auto adjust works well. And the anti-reflective coating will allow the user to work comfortably in sunlight. In the display settings, if desired, you can adjust the color temperature, select the font size and application viewing scale, and enable eye protection mode, which removes blue spectrum colors that provoke eye fatigue.

The Honor 6X is powered by an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 655 with a maximum clock speed of 2.1 GHz. Graphics accelerator - Mali T830. On board installed 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal. There are also modifications for 3 GB of RAM and 32 built-in and 4 GB and 64 built-in. The capacity of the inserted micro sd card can be up to 128 GB. The filling is not top-end, but confidently coping with all possible modern loads. She can easily multitask and at the same time be nimble and smooth. As for 3D games, the smartphone can easily handle them without noticeable heating at maximum settings. Only sometimes you can notice microlags, but this is not critical. In general, the iron is excellent, as for a smartphone of the middle price segment.

Honor 6X runs under Android control 7.0 Marshmallow. Shell proprietary from Huawei - Emotion UI version 5.0. To decorate the shell, you can change the theme from the available ones or download a new one. A nice feature was the automatic change of wallpaper on the lock screen. Another convenient point is that navigation buttons can be swapped as you wish. The curtain here is not like other smartphones. If you swipe right from the very top of the device, then a curtain appears with notifications and settings, and if you swipe from half of the display, a list of recommended applications and a search for them appear. In the locked state, the smartphone can offer quick functions such as voice recorder, calculator, flashlight and camera. This list opens with a swipe from the clock from bottom to top.

In general, the shell is very convenient, concise and with a good set of useful and thoughtful features. The smartphone supports the following interfaces: Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, microUSB 2.0, USB OTG. Functioning navigation systems: GPS and GLONASS. From mobile networks both 3G and 4G are supported.

The main camera has two eyes with a resolution of 12 megapixels and 2 megapixels, respectively. The module of the main one is Sony IMX386. It is equipped with phase focusing and its speed is 0.3 seconds. The second eye is used in a certain mode to focus on one object and beautifully blur the background. With such shooting, the aperture changes from F / 0.95 to F / 16.

The pictures are decent for a mid-range smartphone. Both the detail and color rendition are pleasantly pleasing. The camera interface is convenient and simple. In addition to ready-made various shooting modes, there is a professional mode where you can independently adjust the main parameters for creating a photo. Video recording by the camera is carried out in a maximum resolution of 1920x1080.

The front camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and its capabilities are quite standard. It is perfect for taking self-portraits and video calls.

As for the duration of work, a 3340 mAh battery is installed here. The manufacturer said that in mixed mode, the gadget will live 2 days, when listening to music - 70 hours, when watching a video - 11.5 hours, and in game mode - 8 hours. From this we can conclude that Honor 6X, despite not having the largest battery, is quite tenacious and its power consumption is so optimized that even under heavy load it will live a full day of light. The smartphone is fully charged in 2 hours and 45 minutes.

After getting to know this device better, you understand that Huawei Honor 6X is a very worthy, powerful and beautiful smartphone, as for the middle price segment, and it justifies its cost to the last penny. I really liked him. And you?

A balanced affordable solution with an unusual double cam and good autonomy

Exactly one year has passed since Honor, a spin-off from Huawei into a separate brand, launched the iconic Honor 5X, a smartphone that has become very popular with users and has achieved high sales around the world. An apparatus that successfully combines worthy specifications, including the good Qualcomm platform, and affordable price, turned out to be interesting in all respects, due to which it "shot".

At the same time, the Huawei brand behind Honor is becoming an increasingly powerful argument when choosing; the brand has gained such strength in recent years that it has already become a leading group of smartphone manufacturers. Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) has become the world's third largest smartphone company with a 10% share of the global market, according to recent data released by Strategy Analytics and Counterpoints Research.

Today we meet a direct descendant of the most popular Honor 5X model, which has not yet left the store shelves, but soon it will be replaced by the brand new Honor 6X. Whether the novelty will become a worthy successor to its ancestor, time will tell, but we, as usual, will turn to a detailed analysis of all the technical capabilities of the new model.

Appearance and usability

The hero of the review has a rather good body at first glance. Nice appearance form a thin profile, rounded corners and sloping sides. The design is attractive, and due to the narrowed sides and rounded ends, the smartphone looks even more interesting than the angular Honor 5X with its pronounced angular transitions of the edges and almost straight ends.

However, with a closer acquaintance, negative aspects also begin to emerge. First, the shabby side frame around the screen immediately caught my eye. This element is a familiar gasket, which is available on the glass of each display, but here it turned out to be some kind of cheap and poor quality. In addition, as you can clearly see in the photo, the frame does not adhere tightly to the glass in some places, cracks are visible, which spoils the appearance of the device.

Some dissatisfaction is caused by the materials of manufacture. The case is not entirely made of metal, the end parts are completely plastic, that is, these are not inserts on the rear panel, but the whole parts of the case, in which all interface connectors are installed, holes for speaker grills and microphones are made. Accordingly, the corners of the case are also made of plastic, and not of metal, which forms only the middle part of the back cover.

In general, against the backdrop of the mass of truly all-metal cases on the market, this prefabricated version of plastic and metal should not be officially called a metal case by the manufacturer. If you have already decided to reduce the cost of production, then you do not need to stick out such moments, sometimes it is better to remain silent. Moreover, in terms of texture and even the shade of color, the plastic parts are noticeably different from the middle metal part.

The matte surfaces of the back of the case and the sides are not easily soiled, but very slippery to hold in your hand. The front glass, on the contrary, is completely devoid of an oleophobic coating, so the finger glides over it poorly, unevenly, and grease and fingerprints accumulate on the surface instantly. This even affects the comfort of the game: in tense moments, the finger may not slide where it is needed, the movements come out not even and not smooth. In general, the manufacturer also saved not very well on the Honor 6X glass.

In terms of the placement of the main interface elements on the case, everything is standard here, although many will probably not like the fact that there are no touch hardware buttons under the screen, but a fairly large space is not occupied by anything, it only flaunts the manufacturer's logo, like a mockery. If there are no buttons under the screen, then it would be worth reducing this part of the case.

The entire front panel is covered with 2.5D glass with sloping edges. Sensors are usually installed above the screen, a peephole front camera without its own flash, as well as an LED event indicator.

On the back side there is a dual camera module protruding outwards with a single fairly bright flash, as well as a slightly recessed fingerprint scanner area. With it, you can habitually not only unlock the screen, but also manage calls, scroll through the menu, alarm clock and take pictures on the camera. There are no complaints about the operation of the scanner, recognition is fast and error-free, a finger can be brought at any angle, up to five fingerprints are recorded in memory.

The rear version of the location of this element is not as convenient as the front one, since the smartphone lying on the table has to be lifted to unlock it. However, some manufacturers, like Huawei and LG, obviously do not care about this moment, they continue to bend their line, stubbornly placing a fingerprint scanner on the back of their mobile devices.

The same enviable persistence is shown by some manufacturers in the issue of installing cards: the notorious hybrid slot is not to the liking of most users, since you have to sacrifice a second SIM card to install a memory card. But the manufacturer remains deaf to the torment of users. Here, the connector is designed for two Nano-SIM cards, one of them can be replaced with a microSD memory card. Hot swapping of cards is supported.

There are no complaints about the buttons on the opposite side face: the keys are large, moderately hard, easily groped blindly, have a distinct springy move.

A Micro-USB connector is installed at the bottom end, it supports the connection of external devices, including flash drives, in USB OTG mode. Two grilles are symmetrically located around this connector at the end, but the speaker is hidden only behind one of them, the right one.

The top end is habitually given over to a 3.5 mm headphone jack, here you can also see the opening of the second, auxiliary microphone.

The Honor 6X comes in three colors: Light Silver, Gold, and Dark Grey. It is curious that Honor, even within the same line, does not maintain the same style of the front panel in all models. Specifically, Honor 6X has only two standard facade options: white for light gray and gold and black for a dark gray body, while the predecessor Honor 5X always had a panel under the glass that matched the color of the body, that is, the golden version and the facade was also golden.

Screen

The Honor 6X features an IPS display (with LTPS technology) covered by 2.5D glass with sloping edges. The physical dimensions of the screen are 68×121 mm with a diagonal of 5.5 inches. The resolution is 1920×1080, the dot density is about 401 ppi. The frame around the screen has a total width of about 4 mm on the sides, 16 mm on the bottom, and 13 mm on the top.

The display brightness can be adjusted manually or set to automatic settings based on the operation of the ambient light sensor. The AnTuTu test diagnoses support for 10 simultaneous multitouch touches. There is an eye protection mode to prevent eye fatigue.

Detailed examination using measuring instruments held the editor of the sections "Monitors" and "Projectors and TV" Alexey Kudryavtsev. Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the test sample.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are slightly worse than the screen of the Google Nexus 7 (2013) (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the off screens (on the left is Nexus 7, on the right is Honor 6X, then they can be distinguished by size):

The screen on the Honor 6X is slightly lighter (brightness in photos is 122 versus 116 on the Nexus 7). The doubling of reflected objects in the screen of Honor 6X is very weak, which indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen (more specifically, between the outer glass and the surface of the LCD matrix) (OGS type screen - One Glass Solution). Due to the smaller number of borders (glass/air type) with very different refractive indices, such screens look better in conditions of intense external illumination, but their repair in case of cracked external glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be changed. On the outer surface of the screen, there may be a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating, but its effectiveness is extremely low, and yet fingerprints are removed a little easier, and appear at a slower rate than in the case of ordinary glass.

With manual brightness control and with a white field displayed in full screen, the maximum brightness value was about 520 cd/m², the minimum was 8.5 cd/m². The maximum brightness is very high, and given the good anti-reflective properties, readability even on a sunny day outdoors should be at an acceptable level. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable value. In the presence of automatic brightness control by light sensor (it is located to the left of the front speaker slot). IN automatic mode as the ambient light conditions change, the brightness of the screen both increases and decreases. The operation of this function depends on the position of the brightness control, with which the user can try to set the required brightness level under the current conditions. We slightly increased the brightness in complete darkness and found that in complete darkness the auto-brightness function reduces the brightness to 23 cd / m², in an artificially lit office (approximately 550 lux) sets it to 130 cd / m², in a very bright environment (corresponds to clear lighting). during the day outdoors, but without direct sunlight - 20,000 lux or a little more) increases to 520 cd/m². The result satisfied us. It turns out that the auto-brightness function works adequately and to some extent allows the user to customize their work to individual requirements. At any brightness level, there is no significant backlight modulation, so there is no screen flicker.

This smartphone uses an IPS type matrix. Micrographs show a typical IPS subpixel structure:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of microphotographs of screens used in mobile technology.

The screen has good viewing angles without significant color shift even at large deviations of the gaze from the perpendicular to the screen and without inverting shades. For comparison, here are photos in which the same images are displayed on the screens of Honor 6X and Nexus 7, while the brightness of the screens was initially set to about 200 cd / m², and the color balance on the camera was forcibly switched to 6500 K.

White field perpendicular to the screens:

Note the good uniformity of brightness and color tone of the white field.

And a test picture:

Colors on the screen of Honor 6X have a natural saturation, the color balance of the Nexus 7 and the tested screen is slightly different.

Now at an angle of about 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:

It can be seen that the colors have not changed much on both screens, but on the Honor 6X, the contrast has decreased to a greater extent due to strong black highlights.

And the white box:

The brightness at an angle on the screens has decreased (at least 5 times, based on the difference in shutter speed), but in the case of Honor 6X, the brightness drop is slightly less. The black field, when deviated diagonally, is highlighted strongly, but remains conditionally neutral gray in hue. The photos below demonstrate this (the brightness of the white areas in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the screens is the same!):

And from another angle:

When viewed perpendicularly, the uniformity of the black field is good:

Contrast (approximately in the center of the screen) is normal - about 800:1. The response time for the black-white-black transition is 16 ms (8 ms on + 8 ms off). The transition between 25% and 75% grayscale (according to the numerical value of the color) and back takes a total of 25 ms. The gamma curve constructed from 32 points with an equal interval according to the numerical value of the shade of gray did not reveal a blockage either in the highlights or in the shadows. The fit exponent is 2.13, slightly below the standard value of 2.2. In this case, the real gamma curve deviates little from the power dependence:

We did not find the presence of dynamic adjustment of the backlight brightness in accordance with the nature of the displayed image, which is very good.

Color gamut close to sRGB:

The spectra show that the matrix filters moderately mix the components to each other:

As a result, visually the colors on this screen do not differ from natural ones. The balance of shades on the gray scale is good, since the color temperature is not much higher than the standard 6500 K, and the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (ΔE) is below 10, which is considered acceptable for a consumer device. At the same time, the color temperature and ΔE change little from shade to shade - this has a positive effect on the visual assessment of color balance. (The darkest areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance does not matter much there, and the measurement error of color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

This device has the ability to correct the color balance by adjusting the hue on the color wheel.

Curves in the charts above Without corr. correspond to the results without any color balance correction, and the curves Corr.— data obtained after shifting the point to the position indicated in the image above. It can be seen that the change in balance corresponds to the expected result, since the color temperature has approached the standard value and ΔE has decreased on average. However, it does not make much sense to carry out the correction. Note that given function implemented in the version rather for show, since there is no numerical reflection of the correction, there is no field for measuring the color balance and the adjustment range is insufficient, since even at the edge of the circle you have to find a compromise between the color temperature close to 6500 K and the minimum value of ΔE.

There is a mod setting that allows you to reduce the intensity of the blue component.

Marketers tried to intimidate the user to show the degree of care of the manufacturer. Of course, there is no UV radiation (see spectrum above), and there is no eye fatigue caused specifically by blue light. In principle, bright light can lead to disruption of the daily (circadian) rhythm (see the article about the iPad Pro with a 9.7-inch display), but everything is solved by adjusting the brightness to a comfortable level, and there is absolutely no way to distort the color balance by reducing the contribution of blue. meaning.

To summarize: the screen has a very high maximum brightness and has good anti-glare properties, so the device can be used outdoors without any problems even on a sunny summer day. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable level. It is permissible to use the mode with automatic brightness adjustment, which works adequately. The advantages of the screen include the absence of an air gap in the layers of the screen and flicker, a good color balance and a color gamut close to sRGB. The disadvantages are a very weak oleophobic coating and low black stability to the deviation of the gaze from the perpendicular to the screen plane. Nevertheless, taking into account the importance of the characteristics for this particular class of devices, the screen quality can be considered high.

Camera

The front module here has an 8 MP sensor with a wide-angle lens (77 °) with an aperture of f / 2.0, with a fixed focus and without its own flash. There is a portrait beautification mode, there is a smile detection function, you can manually control the white balance and ISO. The camera shoots well: there are no complaints about detailing and color reproduction, the image is sharp in the center. There are areas of blur around the edges and a little lack of sensitivity, but the sensitivity can be raised manually (scale up to ISO 1600).

The main camera uses a Sony IMX386 module with a 12-megapixel matrix (pixel size 1.25 microns) and a lens with a maximum aperture of f / 2.2, equipped with fast phase detection autofocus. The flash is monotonous, it shines brightly. There is no stabilization system when shooting photos and videos. Beside installed additional module 2 MP with wide angle lens. The first provides video capture and photography, the second is used to analyze the depth of the scene. This was done to blur the background (background) when using the "wide aperture" mode: you can change the aperture range (f / 0.95 - f / 16) over a wide range and change the focus point on an already finished image to obtain the desired artistic effect. That is, there is absolutely not the same dual-chamber version with a color and monochrome sensor, which is used in the top-end Huawei P9 and P9 Plus; here the second module just helps to get “beautiful bokeh”, nothing else.

As usual, there are two control modes in the settings, automatic and professional. If you turn on the professional mode, then there will be arc-shaped sliders with adjustable shutter speed, sensitivity (up to ISO 1600), metering method, focus options, white balance and exposure compensation scale.

The camera can shoot video in the maximum resolution of Full HD @30 fps, there is a slow motion mode, there is no stabilization function. In general, the camera copes well with video shooting: sharpness, color reproduction and detailing are normal, brightness is also enough. There are practically no complaints about sound recording: the sound is clear, loud, the noise reduction system almost always copes with wind noise.

The program "eats" a lot of small details, which makes the image look blurry.

The camera does a great job with macro photography.

Small and complex details the camera works out well, but not throughout the frame.

Good sharpness in the field and according to the plans.

The text is well done.

Good sharpness across the frame.

The camera is good at macro shooting in room lighting.

The camera turned out good. She doesn’t have any serious flaws, although the blur zones and the “eating” of details are somewhat upsetting. Otherwise, there is nothing to complain about, even the work of sharping and noise reduction is not striking. So the camera can be recommended for documentary shooting, and in certain situations it will cope with art.

Telephone part and communications

The communication capabilities of the Honor 6X include support for LTE Cat.4 (up to 150 Mbps), five LTE FDD frequency bands are supported, including 3 bands of interest to us (band 3, 7, 20). In the city limits of the Moscow region, the device behaves confidently, the quality of signal reception does not cause any complaints. Only one Wi-Fi band (2.4 GHz) is supported, there is Bluetooth 4.1. You can organize a wireless access point via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth channels. The device has an NFC module, it supports work with electronic travel cards. The Micro-USB connector supports connecting external devices in USB OTG mode. The navigation module works with GPS (with A-GPS), with domestic Glonass and Chinese Beidou. The first satellites during a cold start are detected within the first minute, the positioning clarity is not amazing, we met in smartphones and much faster and more adequate navigation modules. There is a magnetic compass.

The phone app supports Smart Dial. Ways to customize the sorting and display of contacts are standard for the Android interface.

The smartphone does not support dual SIM in 3G/4G at the same time. That is, for example, the SIM card of the Tele2 operator in Moscow will not work in 3G for voice communication, if a different slot is assigned for 4G data. The interface in Huawei smartphones traditionally does not allow you to select a specific card for voice calls and SMS in advance, only during the connection. The cards work in Dual SIM Dual Standby mode, there is only one radio modem.

Software and multimedia

As a software platform, Honor 6X uses Android OS version 6.0 with its own proprietary shell EMUI 4.1 with the ability to update over the air. The branded interface is well known to fans of Huawei products, this device does not belong to the avant-garde to try out any innovations on it, so everything here is absolutely standard. All the typical EMUI highlights are in place: the notification curtain habitually greets the user with a proprietary scale with time marks, a swipe from the bottom up on the locked screen calls up an additional pop-up menu where you can find a flashlight, calculator, voice recorder, etc. It is possible to change themes, to arrange virtual control buttons on the screen. Gesture support is limited to just flipping the case, there is a desktop reduction mode for one-handed control, and a smart virtual semicircular button for quick access to basic functions is not forgotten. Among installed programs you can habitually find a comprehensive phone manager, there is a program for monitoring health, file manager. From third party applications for the Russian-speaking market, as usual, Yandex and Mail.ru services are preinstalled, as well as Booking.com and TripAdvisor - all, of course, free and available for self-download. The stock keyboard supports Swype stroke input by default. Traditionally for Huawei smartphones, the way to switch language layouts is inconvenient: instead of the usual pressing of one button, here you need to hold the spacebar and then slide to the target. This switching option takes more time and is more distracting.

To listen to melodies, we use our own familiar player with a familiar interface, which has karaoke with running text, but no manual settings- can only be turned on or off virtual system SWS. The device sounds average both in headphones and in the dynamics: the sound is clear, without impurities, the volume reserve is more than enough, but high frequencies prevail, deep bass is not worth looking for here. FM-radio in the smartphone is available, but without the ability to record programs. The recorder demonstrates satisfactory sensitivity, it can be used to record lectures.

Performance

The hardware platform of Honor 6X is based on the HiSilicon Kirin 655 single-chip system, made using 16-nanometer technology. This SoC includes eight 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 cores in two clusters: up to 2.1 GHz and 1.7 GHz. The difference between Kirin 655 and Kirin 650 is only in the frequency of the older cluster of processor cores: 2.1 GHz versus 2 GHz. The dual-core GPU Mali-T830 MP2 is responsible for graphics processing. The amount of RAM is 3 or 4 GB, and the built-in flash memory is 32 or 64 GB. The younger model has about 24 GB free (out of 32 GB) and about 1.9 GB of RAM (out of 3 GB) after clearing the memory and closing all applications. It is possible to expand the amount of memory by installing microSD cards, but then you have to remove one of the SIM cards. It is possible to format the memory card so that you can install applications on it. You can also connect external flash drives in USB OTG mode.

In general, Kirin 655 does not shine with special performance, although it is a solid average. The capabilities of the platform are expected to be higher than those of the lower level Qualcomm Snapdragon 430, but below its direct competitor of the same level - Snapdragon 625, not to mention the much more powerful Snapdragon 652. In the AnTuTu comprehensive test, the Kirin 655 gives out only about 57K points. Given that the popular predecessor of this Smartphone Honor 5X was powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 platform, one would expect Honor 6X to logically “swap” to the fresh Snapdragon 625, but this did not happen.

In any case, although the Kirin 655 is far from the top platforms, in general, its performance is still quite enough for any task, including current games that run without noticeable slowdowns. However, playing games that require a quick reaction with such a “sticky” glass without a grease-repellent coating is uncomfortable, the finger does not slide smoothly, the movements come out ragged.

Testing in comprehensive AnTuTu and GeekBench tests:

For convenience, we have summarized all the results obtained by us when testing a smartphone in the latest versions of popular benchmarks in tables. Several other devices from various segments are usually added to the table, also tested on similar latest versions of benchmarks (this is done only for a visual assessment of the obtained dry numbers). Unfortunately, within a single comparison, it is impossible to present the results from different versions benchmarks, so many worthy and relevant models remain “behind the scenes” - due to the fact that they once passed the “obstacle course” on previous versions test programs.

Testing the graphics subsystem in 3DMark gaming tests, GFXBenchmark and Bonsai Benchmark:

When testing in 3DMark for the highest performing smartphones, it is now possible to run the application in Unlimited mode, where the rendering resolution is fixed at 720p and VSync is disabled (due to which the speed can rise above 60 fps).

Browser cross-platform tests:

As for benchmarks for evaluating the speed of the javascript engine, you should always make allowances for the fact that the results in them depend significantly on the browser in which they are launched, so that the comparison can only be truly correct on the same OS and browsers, and this possibility is available when testing not always. In the case of Android OS, we always try to use Google Chrome.

thermal images

Below is a thermal image rear surface obtained after 10 minutes of running a battery test in the GFXBenchmark program:

It can be seen that the heating is more localized in the upper part of the device, which apparently corresponds to the location of the SoC chip. According to the heat chamber, the maximum heating was 37 degrees (at an ambient temperature of 24 degrees), this is not very much.

Video playback

To test "omnivorous" when playing video (including support for various codecs, containers and accessibility, such as subtitles), we used the most common formats, which make up the bulk of the content available on the Web. Note that for mobile devices it is important to have support hardware decoding video clips at the chip level, since it is most often impossible to process modern versions due to processor cores alone. Also, don't expect mobile device decoding of everything, since the leadership in flexibility belongs to the PC, and no one is going to challenge it. All results are summarized in a table.

According to the test results, the test subject, as is often the case, was not equipped with all the necessary decoders that are needed to fully play most of the most common multimedia files on the network, in this case, sound ones. To successfully play them, you will have to resort to the help of a third-party player - for example, MX Player. True, it also needs to change the settings and manually install additional custom codecs, because now this player does not officially support the AC3 audio format.

Format container, video, sound MX Video Player Regular video player

1080p H.265 MKV, H.265 1920×1080, 24 fps, AC3 video plays fine, no sound video plays fine, no sound

Further testing of video playback performed Alexey Kudryavtsev.

We did not find an MHL interface, as well as Mobility DisplayPort, in this smartphone, so we had to limit ourselves to testing the output of video files on the screen of the device itself. To do this, we used a set of test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see "Methodology for testing video playback and display devices. Version 1 (for mobile devices)" Red marks indicate possible problems associated with playback of the corresponding files.

According to the criterion for displaying frames, the quality of playing video files on the screen of the smartphone itself is good, since in most cases frames (or groups of frames) can (but are not required to) be displayed with more or less uniform alternation of intervals and without frame drops. The screen refresh rate is 59 Hz, so in the case of 60 fps files, at least one frame per second is skipped. When playing video files with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels (1080p) on a smartphone screen, the image of the video file itself is displayed exactly along the border of the screen, one to one in pixels, that is, in its original resolution. The brightness range displayed on the screen corresponds to the standard range of 16-235: all gradations of shades are displayed in the shadows and in the highlights.

Battery Life

The non-removable battery installed in Honor 6X has a capacity of 3340 mAh. With such a battery, the smartphone could show more impressive autonomy results, but overall it’s still not bad. In real usage scenarios, with a normal average mode of operation, the hero of the review is quite capable of quietly holding out without recharging for a couple of days.

Testing has traditionally been conducted at normal power levels without power saving features.

Continuous reading in the Moon + Reader program (with a standard, light theme) at a minimum comfortable brightness level (brightness was set to 100 cd / m²) with auto scrolling lasted until the battery was completely discharged for about 15 hours, and with continuous video viewing in high quality(720p) with the same brightness level via home wifi network the device operates for almost 10.5 hours. In 3D gaming mode, the smartphone can work just over 4.5 hours.

From complete network adapter the smartphone charges in about 2.5 hours with a current of 1.6 A at a voltage of 5 V. For some reason, support for fast charging is indicated on the company's website, but in fact there is no really fast charging here. Wireless charging smartphone is also not supported.

Outcome

If you do not take into account the annoying flaws in the form of a peeling frame and the absence of an oleophobic coating on the display glass, then the rest of the Honor 6X has a chance to become a worthy successor to its aging ancestor Honor 5X. For a small for the official Russian retail 17 thousand rubles, the buyer receives a balanced device in a nice slim body with a large bright screen, not the weakest hardware stuffing, quite decent sound, autonomy and, of course, an unusual dual camera, even if it is far from the capabilities of the dual cameras of modern flagships. There is no reason to praise the communication capabilities of the device, but there is support for Russian LTE frequencies, and NFC works with Troika travel cards - and this is more than enough for most users. In general, the device came out certainly no worse than its ancestor. Smartphones are quite worthy of each other, so you can expect good sales for the Honor 6X, especially given Huawei's love for sales, during which the price is already dropping to 15 thousand rubles, you just need to catch the right moment.

Honor 6X is the first smartphone of the famous Chinese brand Huawei, which was introduced in 2017. Its presentation took place on January 4 at CES 2017, and it went on sale immediately after the end of the New Year celebrations.

Honor 6X is available in 2 versions, each of which differs in the amount of internal and RAM: 4 Gb of RAM and 64 Gb internal memory, as well as 3 Gb of RAM and 32 Gb of internal memory. Now we will do Huawei review Honor 6X 32 GB. This model is an original combination good performance and reasonable cost. Being in the budget segment, Huawei Honor 6X is equipped with a stylish aluminum body, a dual camera and a fingerprint sensor on the back, which is more familiar to see on more expensive smartphones.

Equipment

The phone is sold in beautiful blue cardboard boxes. The device is completed short instruction, charger(2A/5A) with USB cable, SIM tray ejector.

Design

Smartphone Huawei Honor 6X boasts an attractive design. Thanks to the rounded ends and narrowed side faces, this model looks more interesting than the angular Honor 5 X with its straight ends. The sloping sidewalls, rounded corners and slim profile also create a pleasant look. We are looking at a gray Honor 6x with 32 GB. This model is also available in gold and light silver.

But with a close acquaintance with the smartphone, the disadvantages in the appearance of Huawei Honor 6X become noticeable. First of all, it is impossible not to notice the shabby side frame around the display. This part is the standard gasket found on the glass that covers the screen. However, in this case, it came out some kind of low-quality and cheap. In addition, this frame does not adhere tightly to the glass in some areas, gaps are noticeable, which is insignificant, but worsens the “appearance” of the device.

The case of Huawei Honor 6X is not all-metal: the middle part of the back panel is made of high-quality metal. The end elements and, accordingly, the corners are made of plastic.

The matte surface of the back panel of the case and the side faces are not easily soiled, but too slippery to hold in one hand. The front glass does not have an oleophobic coating, as a result of which fingers slide poorly on it, and fingerprints accumulate instantly. All this negatively affects the comfort of using the gadget, in particular, during the game, the finger is no, no, and it will slide in the wrong place. From the early days, Huawei Honor 6X should be placed in a protective case and glued on a protective film. These are additional expenses.

The main interface components on the Huawei Honor 6X case are located as standard for Huawei smartphones, although many users do not like the lack of hardware touch keys under the screen. Under the display is the company logo. There is nothing else there. It looks like some kind of mockery: if there are no keys under the display, then wouldn't it be more reasonable to reduce the dimensions of this part?

The entire front part is occupied by 2.5D glass with sloping edges. Above the display are sensors, an event indicator, a front-facing lens without a flash.

On the back, you can see a slightly protruding dual main camera module with a single, very bright flash. Just below is the fingerprint scanner. Through it, you can unlock the screen, scroll through the menu, manage calls and alarms, take pictures on the camera. The scanner functions perfectly, recognition occurs almost instantly and without errors, and at any angle. The phone's memory can store up to 5 different fingerprints.

The keys on the sidewall do not cause any complaints: they are large enough, moderately hard, have a springy stroke and can be easily groped blindly.

The bottom end is equipped with a microUSB connector, the smartphone supports the connection of external devices, including flash drives in the special USB OTG mode. A pair of grilles is symmetrically located around the connector at the end, but only one of them (the right one) hides the speaker.

At the top end, as before, there is a 3.5 mm jack for connecting a stereo headset. There is also a hole for an additional microphone.

Display

The Huawei Honor 6 X has a 5.5-inch LPTS TFT screen with a resolution of 1080 × 1920 and a density of 403 ppi per 1 inch. It is equipped with a light sensor and automatic brightness level adjustment. Protects from minor damage protective glass 2.5D. If we consider Huawei Honor 6X separately from its predecessors, then the quality of its display can be called excellent. But when compared with competitors, then, for example, on Lenovo K6 Note, the image remains equally bright at all viewing angles, while on Huawei Honor 6X it “whitens”. Fortunately, this can only be noticed with a direct comparison, and in real life it is almost impossible to identify it.

In auto mode, the backlight of the display, as a rule, does not exceed 40%. The colors are not too bright, muted. It will not work to bring the display to the maximum level manually, it is only possible to reach the maximum brightness of 450 nits in auto mode and in the sun (the screen remains perfectly readable, and everything is perfectly visible).

The level of display quality in Honor 6 X is above average for smartphones in this price segment, and it has no serious drawbacks. A sharp decrease in brightness is not annoying: you can easily get used to this feature of this model. The display is very easy to use.

In the Huawei Honor 6X display settings, you can choose the optimal color temperature, select the appropriate scale for regular applications and data in them, activate eye protection (a special yellow background for images). As part of the mode to improve clarity in the sun, you can set the brightness of the backlight to the maximum (the same 450 nits). When off, the backlight is 380 nits.

In general, the display of Huawei Honor 6X is not only good in itself, but also boasts a lot of serious features that the user can easily customize.

Sound

The sound quality of the Honor 6X is average, both in the speaker and in the headphones. But the sound is the purest, without the slightest impurities, the volume margin is acceptable, although the predominance of very high frequencies. Deep bass is absent. The speaker does not have a low frequency. surround sound becomes only in the headphones. The vibrating alert is average in terms of power, there are no manual adjustments for it.

cameras

The dual main camera consists of 2-megapixel and 12-megapixel modules. The main module - Sony IMX386 - is equipped with phase detection autofocus, the focusing speed does not exceed 0.3 s. The use of a pair of lenses allows you to blur the background and further focus on the subject (functions only when the subject is close). This separate mode can be enabled in the camera menu. At the same time, the aperture can be changed in the range f / 0.95 - f / 16.

The camera interface is extremely simple, in pro mode you can adjust the white balance, shutter speed and other characteristics. There are also ready-made photography modes, for example, for photographing all kinds of dishes. In the service capabilities of the camera, there is shooting from a locked state using the side volume control button (you need to click a couple of times), autofocus on a specific moving object, and other interesting settings.

The 8-megapixel front camera “does not shine” with special characteristics: the shooting quality is standard for selfie cameras of a budget model, there is nothing to praise or scold her for.

Memory and memory card

We, as mentioned above, are reviewing the Honor 6 X with 3 Gb of RAM and 32 Gb of internal memory, of which only 24 Gb is available to the user. By clearing the memory and closing all applications, you can get 1.9 Gb of "RAM". If necessary, the amount of internal memory can be expanded by installing a micro-SD memory card instead of the 2nd SIM card. You can format the memory card to install various applications on it. In USB OTG special mode, you can connect an external flash drive.

Connection

Honor 6X supports LTE Cat.4 (up to 155 Mb/s), 5 frequency bands LTE FDD, including band 20, 7, 3. There are no complaints about the quality of signal reception, at least within large cities.

The device supports only one Wi-fi band (2.4 GHz), there is bluetooth 4.1. The NFC module is able to work with travel cards.

Through micro USB connector Huawei Honor 6X supports connecting all kinds of external devices in USB OTG mode. The navigation module is able to work equally well with both domestic Glonass and GPS (including A-GPS) and Beidou. With a cold start option, the first satellites can be detected in a minute, positioning accuracy is low, some state employees can boast of more efficient navigation modules.

The phone application supports Smart Dial. Displaying and sorting contacts is carried out in standard ways for an Android smartphone.

Huawei Honor 6X cannot work simultaneously with a pair of SIM cards in 4G / 3G. This means that, for example, the SIM card will not function in 3G for voice communications if you have assigned a different slot for 4G data. The interface, as before, does not allow you to pre-select a specific card for sms and calls, only when connected. Both SIM cards operate in the Dual SIM Dual Standby special mode.

Battery life and performance

The Honor 6 X is equipped with a 3340 mAh non-removable battery. Under normal use, a full charge is enough for a day. The normal mode includes visiting social networks, half an hour of voice calls, watching 4 videos, taking 20 photos, surfing the web for 3 hours, communicating in various instant messengers.

At maximum loads Huawei smartphone Honor 6X is able to work 10 hours.

PCMark testing has shown that with a fully charged battery this smartphone can provide:

  • 5 hours of playing graphically "light" video games at 50% brightness with wi-fi on;
  • 7 hours of watching videos in FullHD resolution at maximum brightness in the mode "Flight";
  • 8.5 hours of listening to music.

Fully charging the battery with a standard charger takes 3 hours. Charging and synchronization of the smartphone with a PC is carried out using the micro-USB connector.

Honor 6X runs on a HiSilicon Kirin 655 single-chip system, created according to 16-nan technology. This chipset consists of 8 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 cores in a pair of clusters: with a frequency of 1.7 GHz and 2.1 GHz. High-quality processing of graphic data is provided by a 2-core GPU Mali-T830 MP2.

Kirin 655 is not happy with super performance. In the AnTuTu benchmark, Huawei Honor 6X with 32 GB of ROM showed an average result, scoring only 56,868 points. According to your own abilities this platform an order of magnitude higher than the low-level chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 430, but an order of magnitude lower than the main rival of the same level - Qualcomm Snapdragon 625. The most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 is not even worth talking about. In complex testing on the same antutu, Kirin 655 gave out 57K points.

Despite the fact that Kirin 655 is extremely far from top-level platforms, its performance is quite enough for solving standard tasks, including current video games that run without braking. But for playing “video toys” that require an instant reaction, this smartphone is not suitable because of the “sticky” glass without an oleophobic coating, which is why the finger on the glass moves in jerky movements, and not smoothly. But above, we have already noted how this drawback can be eliminated - buy an oleophobic screen protector.

operating system

The Honor 6X smartphone runs on Android 6.0 with a proprietary EMUI 4.1 shell with an over-the-air update. The proprietary interface is perfectly familiar to all fans of Huawei smartphones, everything is standard and there are no innovations. All the usual EMUI components are in place: an auxiliary pop-up menu where you can find a voice recorder, a flashlight, a calculator is called up by moving from the bottom up, there is also a scale with various short-term marks.

It is possible to change the themes, you can arrange the control keys on the screen according to your own taste. Support for movements is limited to a single coup of the case, there is a special desktop reduction mode for one-handed control, a virtual key for quickly calling the main functions.

Among the installed programs there is a complex manager, a file manager, a health monitoring program. The Honor 6X keyboard supports swipe input by default. Switching language layouts, like on other Huawei smartphones, is rather inconvenient: you have to hold down the space bar and slide your finger towards the target. This option switching is very distracting.

Outcome

We have considered quite interesting smartphone, which has a fair number of contradictions. Huawei Honor 6X with 32 GB of gray ROM, which we reviewed, pleased with its beautiful design, a solid amount of RAM and internal memory, and a fast fingerprint scanner.

The disadvantages of this device include the lack of a separate slot for a memory card, the inability to use both SIM cards, and average performance. In general, we can say that the smartphone fully justifies its price of $208, although some experts believe that it is a bit overpriced.
