Review of the tablet Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet: the upgrade is not on schedule. Tablets Sony Xperia Tablet Z series Sony Xperia Z 4 tablet

  • Good main camera
  • High battery capacity
  • "Iron"
  • Value for money
  • Pretty mediocre build

Flaws:

  • Screen brightness must be adjusted manually

Huawei MediaPad M2 8.0 LTE

In terms of the attractiveness of its devices for buyers, Huawei is one of the market leaders. Their new model good tablet phone The MediaPad M2 8.0 with its own 8-core 2GHz Kirin processor outperforms most competitors at the same price. The amount of RAM and internal memory, which are 3 and 32 GB in the device, respectively, did not disappoint here either. Thanks to a full-fledged telephone module, the user will be able to use this tablet as cellular telephone, although with an 8-inch matrix it is more suitable for SMS correspondence than for conversations. Of the shortcomings here, one can single out only the unstable auto-adjustment of the screen backlight.

Advantages:

  • Own unique design
  • Build quality and materials
  • Performance in gaming and other applications
  • lovely matrix
  • good sound

Flaws:

  • Display brightness adjustment

ASUS ZenPad 10 Z300CNL

The ZenPad 10 Z300CNL from ASUS is arguably the best low-cost 4G tablet around. Its cost is only slightly more than 12,000 rubles, but for this price the user gets a 4-core Intel processor Atom, powerful G6430 graphics from PowerVR, as well as 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory at once. Built-in storage, by the way, can be expanded with memory cards up to 128 GB. Of course, before buying this device, you should consider that we have an inexpensive tablet for the Internet and movies, which has its own compromises. So HD resolution for a 10.1-inch matrix may not seem enough to some users, and the case of this ZenPad 10 model is made not of metal, but of plastic. However, all this is quite subjective, when even undemanding users will not like long-term battery charging.

Advantages:

  • Stylish design
  • Good build
  • OS with its own ZenUI interface
  • Great sound
  • Performance
  • Built-in storage capacity

Flaws:

  • Charging time

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 SM-T285

With a cost of up to 10,000 rubles on the market, it is difficult to choose a tablet as a navigator in a car and, at the same time, an entertainment station. The task becomes especially difficult if you need a device from a popular, and not from a little-known brand. However, you don’t have to think for a long time about which tablet is better to choose, because the ideal option for its price will always be samsung galaxy Tab A 7.0 8 GB. Here is installed 4 nuclear processor with a frequency of 1300 MHz and one and a half gigabytes of RAM. Disappointing users may not be too much high resolution 7-inch matrix and only 8 gigabytes of built-in storage. Despite all the minor flaws, the Galaxy Tab A 7.0 is a tablet with the best high-speed Internet capabilities at such an attractive price. is one of the best solutions in the category of state employees on the market today. The manufacturer does not spend completely unnecessary funds on a large-scale marketing campaign, which makes it possible to reduce production costs. Today you can buy a tablet with support for LTE model MultiPad PMT3508 at a price of about 5,000 rubles, which is a very attractive offer. The buyer will not receive anything extraordinary for this price, but a 4-core 1.3 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM can easily provide comfortable operation of the browser, instant messengers and simple games. Unfortunately, this budget 4G tablet cannot please with good cameras and a capacious battery. Given the terrible photographic capabilities, they could easily be sacrificed for the sake of autonomy.

Advantages:

  • Virtually "clean" system
  • Good performance for the money
  • Ability to connect external devices
  • Good build
  • Decent display quality

Flaws:

  • Battery lasts for up to 3 hours of video playback
  • Cameras for show
  • No vibration
  • Sound quality

That being said, our roundup of the best 4G tablets for 2017 included models of various sizes, including 10-inch options suitable for convenient operation. The tablet comes with a USB cable, power supply and related documentation - nothing more, I would like to say. However, there is one accessory that would come in very handy as standard - the Quick Charger UCH10, or a fast charging power supply. Such a module allows you to fill the battery of the device in just over an hour, but for some reason it does not come with the tablet, although not only this, but also previous models support the corresponding Qualcomm quick charge 2.0 function. Therefore, it is highly desirable, in addition to the standard unit, to also have such a means for charging - it will certainly come in handy, and more than once.

The essence of the reproach on our part is that, given the cost of the tablet, this useful accessory could be added to the basic package.

Design

The design of this model deserves special attention. First of all, it, like many products of this brand, has a water-repellent case, so you can not be afraid to dip or drop the tablet into water. True, if you accidentally missed it in the sea, then it is better to wipe it off so that nothing is damaged due to salt.

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet device is available in black and white versions - strictly, modestly, but stylishly. The tablet has quite impressive dimensions due to the 10-inch screen, but everything is compensated by its thickness - it is only 6.1 mm. Thanks to this, it looks very elegant and impressive, it does not fit in a pocket, but it may well get lost among the folders with papers in the bag.

Moreover, it has become lighter compared to previous models of the brand. It weighs less than 400 grams, which is an impressive figure for a device with a large diagonal. The rest of the tablet is quite simple, there is nothing on the front except the screen and the front camera, the power and volume buttons are on the right side.

What makes the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet different from the Apple competitor? That's right, the body material - here it is plastic, but has a nice rough surface, so it's nice to hold it in your hands. However, if you want to definitely get a tablet with a metal case and, like this model, you will have to buy an iPad.

However, you can easily put up with the material if you consider that the tablet itself is water resistant, unlike the American product, which is why it simply cannot be otherwise. In general, the design of the product from Sony deserves praise, because thanks to the thin body and light weight, it looks beautiful and is comfortable to use.

Screen

The tablet has a 10.1 inch screen. high resolution Quad HD 2560x1600 pixels. It has become brighter, provides a colorful and rich picture. Image clarity is guaranteed thanks to high density pixels - 299 per inch, and thanks to a wide range of brightness, the screen remains readable even in bright sunlight. It's nice that the manufacturer has provided an oleophobic coating so that fingerprints do not remain on the display so quickly.

In addition, the screen has maximum viewing angles, and the image quality is so high that photographers or videographers can use the tablet for professional purposes. In principle, in terms of resolution, the device has become one of the leaders in the market, so the screen is its undoubted advantage.

Performance

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet has an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 4 cores are clocked at 1.5GHz and the rest at 2GHz. Together with a 3 GB flash memory, the device turned out to be powerful and able to cope with all tasks - from watching Full HD videos with a smooth and high-quality picture without any slowdowns, to any games with the most intense graphics.

The tablet handles the demanding screen without any problems, so you can use it without any restrictions for office work, media playback, games and any basic tasks. Moreover, it is important that powerful processor in a thin tablet, unlike many competitors, it does not overheat even in games. By the way, this is another argument in favor of a case made of plastic, not metal.

If in many reviews you can often find complaints about the discrepancy between the power of the tablet and its screen, which requires more resources or high performance, limited by the strong heating of the processor, then here you will not see this. Productivity is one of the main trump cards of the model.

Multimedia features

What do you need for comfortable work with multimedia?

Quality screen? It in this model provides an excellent image that will delight you when viewing photos or movies, surfing the web and working with files.

Speakers? Even though this tablet is water repellent, it comes with speakers good quality, producing a loud and clear sound in which you can confidently hear mids and high frequencies in compositions of various genres.

The speed of the device, as mentioned earlier, is enough for any - if it copes with games, then music or movies, all the more, will not interfere with fast work.

There are several features in this model regarding multimedia. This is PS4 connection support - you can connect the device to the set-top box, connect the joystick to it, which will turn into a simple screen, just like you are playing on TV. In addition, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet has Hi-Res Sound technology, which contains functions for improving sound, fixing bad quality tracks, and adjusting the sound for a headset.

To store multimedia and other files, the tablet has 32 GB of memory - not much, but very good, and, of course, they can be supplemented with a card up to 128 GB, which you still can't get from Apple products.

Battery and operating time

The device comes with a 6,000 mAh battery. Is it a lot or a little? If you turn on the screen brightness to maximum performance and continuously watch videos top quality with Wi-Fi on, the charge will last for 5.5-6 hours. As soon as you reduce the brightness indicators (and there is much to reduce them), you need to use the tablet in a more mixed mode, then the battery life increases significantly.

With short-term use of the device, the battery power will be enough for several days. But with the restoration of the charge, things are not easy - the standard unit requires about 6 hours for this procedure. As mentioned in the review, the gadget provides fast charging technology, with which you can restore the battery capacity by 70% in an hour. The whole problem is that in order to utilize the technology, a power supply is required, which must be purchased separately. It is inexpensive, but the benefits of it are great.

Camera

The Xperia Z4 has two cameras, 8MP and 5MP. Note that the front module is pretty good, with its help you can use video calls, and make good selfies. But it doesn't have autofocus, so you won't get too carried away using the front camera.

As for the main 8 MP module, it comes with autofocus, but it is definitely worse in quality than its competitor from Apple. It will be difficult to take a high-quality picture, movements or hand tremors will lead to a blurry photo, but does it matter? In most cases, cameras in tablets are available just in case and are not used in quality, especially in models with a large screen diagonal.

Operating system and programs

The device runs on the Android 5.0 Lollipop system in the Xperia UI shell. The platform looks concise and beautiful, easy to use. A standard set of applications is provided, as on all Android systems, it is supplemented by Garmin navigator and AVG antivirus.

All components that are not to your taste can be removed, and the desired ones can be installed, and this is one of the main advantages of this platform.

It is important to mention that the tablet is released in standard version and in the version with a slot for a SIM card and LTE, where the menu includes a dial pad and all means for implementing mobile communications.

Competitors

The main competitors of the review model, which belongs to the premium segment, are the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and Apple iPad Air 2. What are the differences between the three models?

First of all, the product from Samsung will cost you less, especially when compared to the price of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet in the 4G version. A competitor also has this module. The Galaxy Tab S 10.5 also has a bit bigger screen with almost the same excellent image quality, more battery capacity. However, it is almost 70 grams heavier, and the processor is not as easy to handle the high requirements of the screen. Additional difference- it is not waterproof.

So in some moments the tablet of our review justifies the cost compared to a competitor. As for Apple iPad Air 2, then it is almost 10 thousand rubles cheaper, it does not have such high performance, but best cameras, same 3\4G support and high quality screen. But Apple is Apple, and the metal case appeals well to users. Therefore, if you choose between these three models, then it is advisable to start purely from individual needs and preferences.

Advantages and disadvantages

The pros of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet are as follows:

  • Slim waterproof case, light weight.
  • Screen with high resolution, brightness, anti-glare effect and oleophobic coating.
  • Powerful processor, high performance.
  • Quality speakers.
  • Availability of LTE.

Among the minuses, you can only find the cameras, although, compared to many tablets, they are very decent, as well as the average battery life, but the main complaint of users is the price. Although, if you collect all the advantages - strong parameters, beautiful design, water resistance, it becomes clear why it is more expensive than competitors.

conclusions

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is a premium tablet that comes with a hefty price tag. For a price of about 40 thousand rubles, you will get a waterproof slim body, impressive screen and high performance without overheating the processor. A good amount of memory, loud speakers, the presence of advanced ones - with many advantages, the device has practically no drawbacks, and even those are relative.

Price aside, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is definitely a worthy tablet that belongs to the the best products in the market for such technology.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet, in our opinion, looks pretty. But its appearance evokes a feeling of déjà vu: the same thing we saw last year with the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. The tablets are not easy to distinguish from each other: similar shapes and sizes, matte plastic back, the same round power button and speakers on the front panel. There are few changes: they added metal corners along the edges of the case, the camera lens “slid” a little lower. The plug was removed from the USB connector of the tablet and moved to the right, proudly calling it the term “Cap-less USB” (a hint of water resistance in the absence of a plug on the port). Because of this, the wireless charging port has disappeared from the bottom.

As before, the body is predominantly plastic, and the screen is covered protective glass. Build quality was good for thin tablet: nothing crunches, although it bends slightly when pressed. The main "chip", as, indeed, always, is the water resistance of the case - you can pour water on it or even immerse it to a depth of one and a half meters.

At the same time, the full immersion scenario is not the main one to use, you should not go too far with bathing the device. So, after another immersion in water, our tablet turned off. Apparently, the drop unsuccessfully hit the headphone jack: every half a second the tablet gave a message that someone was plugging headphones into it. After a while, the device just began to turn off and on endlessly. As a result, we had to use proprietary system recovery utilities. After that, the tablet worked fine, but all personal data and settings were lost.

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is available in black and white.

Dimensions and weight - 4.5

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of the thinnest and lightest tablets in the world with such a diagonal. The device has become a little thinner - the thickness of the case reaches 6.3 mm (slightly thicker than the Apple iPad Air 2). In addition, Samsung has already announced the world's thinnest Galaxy Tab S2 tablets.

The weight of the device is only 387 grams (predecessor Z2 weighed 430 grams), which is almost 80 grams less than the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The tablet breaks the 400g "psychological barrier", something we haven't seen in a 10-inch device yet.

Ports and interfaces - 4.8

As always, Sony has equipped its top-of-the-line Xperia Z4 Tablet with a state-of-the-art set wireless interfaces:

  • Dual-band Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n/ac) with Wi-Fi Direct and DLNA support
  • LTE and telephony capabilities (you can call from a 10-inch tablet)
  • NFC chip
  • Bluetooth 4.1 with A2DP support
  • A-GPS together with GLONASS and Chinese Beidou
  • FM radio.

At the same time, the tablet is almost no different from its predecessor - except that the size of the SIM card has now become “Nano”, the infrared port has been removed, and the Bluetooth version has changed from 4.0 to 4.1.

The location of the connectors and buttons is as follows:

  • On the left side are the power and volume keys
  • On the right - Micro-USB 2.0 with MHL 3.0 support (for video transmission)
  • Top - Mini-jack for headphones and a slot for Micro-SD and Nano-SIM cards
  • The bottom edge is empty.

Performance - 4.6

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of the record holders in terms of performance and is inferior, perhaps, to the Apple iPad Air 2. Despite the cool features (3 GB of RAM and top-end stuffing), its power has a downside.

The fact is that the tablet got the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, notorious for its overheating. Its features are visible from the results of benchmarks: at first, the filling shows the highest results, but after a few iterations, the case starts to heat up, and the scores in the tests fall by 20-40%. However, in general, this does not affect the overall performance in daily use - Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet works cheerfully. NOVA 3 and Asphalt 8 games load quickly and run smoothly. In benchmarks, the tablet shows top results:

  • Epic Citadel - 47.1 fps at ultra high settings and a resolution of 2560x1504 pixels. After several iterations - only 34.6 fps;
  • Basemark OS II - 1639 points, after a little "warming up" - 1562;
  • Google Octane - the average browser benchmark showed 7165 points;
  • Sunspider - 745ms, which is pretty fast if you let the tablet warm up, then almost twice as long - 1381 ms;
  • GeekBench 3 - 4372 points, after several iterations the result drops to 3600 points;
  • AnTuTu 5 - 57,500 points, when heated - 46,819;
  • 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited - 25,215, after several iterations - already 21,598

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of the most powerful tablets available today. At the same time, its performance obviously suffers due to overheating, and according to the benchmark results, it is inferior to the iPad Air 2, somewhere a little bit, and somewhere it lags far behind.

Display - 4.8

The display of the tablet is definitely pleasing to the eye, it is one of the best on the market. Compared to its predecessor, the screen has been upgraded from Full HD to Quad HD (2560×1600 pixels). Also, the viewing angles of the Sony Xperia Z4 have become a little wider. Moreover, if such a resolution is redundant for smartphones, then for a 10-inch tablet it is relevant and still noticeable by eye - the picture becomes much clearer. The pixel density has increased from 224 to 299 per inch, which is sharper than the 8-inch Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. The display is covered with protective glass. It is also indicated that an oleophobic coating has been applied, but it does not really help - the screen is constantly streaked.

The maximum measured brightness of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet was 403 cd/m 2 , a slightly above average result, just like last year. At the same time, it almost does not glare and is well read on the street on a sunny day. The minimum brightness is about 4 cd/m2, which is comfortable for reading in the dark. Contrast was also good level- 845:1, although most top-end tablets, and even its predecessor, show a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and higher. The distribution of brightness Xperia Z4 was quite uniform - 90%. The color gamut of the display is slightly wider than the standard sRGB. As a result, he fibs a little with colors, and we can only call color accuracy average. Separately, we note the white balance setting for three colors and adaptive adjustment brightness (auto brightness). It works quite quickly, using a sensor near the lens.

Battery - 4.0

We rated the battery life of the device as a solid four. The tablet works for a long time, but sits down faster than top competitors like the Apple iPad Air 2 or Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The battery capacity remains the same as the Tablet Z2 - 6000 mAh.

In load mode, the tablet lasted a little less than 4 hours in our tests, losing to the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (5.5 hours), the Apple iPad Air 2 (4 hours) and even the Xperia Z2 Tablet (4 hours and 20 minutes). A video marathon with a display brightness of 150 cd / m2 discharged the tablet in 9 hours, although the manufacturer promises twice as much, up to 17 hours! In the minimum load mode Sony Xperia Tablet The Z4 lasted almost 20 hours, which is not the most outstanding result, at the level of the Apple iPad Air 2.

It takes 5.5 hours to fully charge the tablet (1.5 A charger included). The process is quite slow, and in some applications it even pops up a message that the device is draining faster than it is charging. To save energy, there are Stamina modes (limiting performance, deactivating applications, Wi-Fi and mobile data) and Low battery mode (saving on everything, including screen brightness).

Software

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is powered by operating system Android 5.0 Lollipop. Thanks to Sony's proprietary shell, all icons, keyboards and desktops look quite unusual. The tablet can make calls, connect to the Play Station 4, adjust the white balance in three colors, and it can also be configured for multiple users. Of the interesting - when you press the Menu button, you can launch a number of applications in a separate small window, for example, a browser, music or a timer. If desired, other applications or widgets can be added to this list from Play market. What looks normal on a Sony Xperia Z3+ smartphone is already a bit small on a 10-inch screen.

In our opinion, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is still “crammed” with applications, this can be seen even from the fact that only 22 GB out of 32 GB is available to the user. At the same time, they can hardly be called superfluous: these are various multimedia services, navigation from Garmin, a TV remote control application, simple applications for image and video processing, and so on. Of these, you can remove just a few applications.

Cameras - 5.0

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet uses good, by the standards of tablets, 8 and 5 MP cameras. The rear camera with autofocus is suitable for passing shots and shoots approximately like an average smartphone camera with the same resolution. She only lacks a flash, but she knows how to shoot panoramas, “stabilize” the image and she has HDR. It is also capable of recording Full HD video. Note that in the “super auto”, which is the default, the resolution is “cut off” to 6 MP.

Frontal sony camera The 5MP Xperia Z4 Tablet does a good job of taking advanced selfies, which is still unusual for tablets. It also has HDR and image stabilization, as well as the ability to shoot Full HD video.

As always, both cameras are equipped with a bunch of modes, the most fun of them are virtual effects on photos and videos: a scene with dinosaurs, gnomes, masks, and so on. You can also download individual scenes, for example, with a dragon, as in the posted video.

Until recently, Sony released an average of two flagship Z-smartphone per year and only one Z-tablet. It is likely that now new "tablets" from Sony will appear more often, while smartphones, on the contrary, less often. See for yourself: relatively recently, at the end of 2014, the Z3 Tablet Compact saw the light - the first eight-inch device in the current line Xperia tablets Z. Already now, after only about six months, a new "tablet" Sony - Xperia Z4 Tablet - has entered the market. She, like the first gadgets of the Tablet Z series, is ten-inch. True, her resolution is not Full HD, as before, but 2K - 2560 × 1600 pixels. This is the main feature of the device. The gadget also has a new eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 platform. specifications Xperia Z4 Tablet, judging by the comparison table below, is almost the same as the Z3 Tablet Compact and Z2 Tablet. Maybe there is something in the Z4 Tablet that the specification plate is not capable of conveying?

Potential buyers of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet should take into account that there are two modifications of this tablet on the Russian market: one can only access the Internet via Wi-Fi, and the other can also use 3G/LTE. The modification with a built-in modem is designated by the internal number SGP771RU, it was we who tested it. The version that is content only Wi-Fi networks, designated as SGP712RU. Be careful when buying!

⇡ Appearance and ergonomics

The look and feel of Sony's new tablet follows the same changes we saw with the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. The sharp edges of the hull became convex, and almost right angles became rounded and not so prickly. In addition, the gadget not only visually looks lighter than its predecessor - the tablet has lost weight from 440 grams to 396 grams compared to the Z2 Tablet. To "exit" four hundred grams for a ten-inch tablet is really worth a lot.

There are also changes that are almost invisible to the eye. For example, the case thickness of the same Xperia Z2 Tablet was 6.4 mm; the new Z4 Tablet is only 6.1 mm - the same as the Apple iPad Air 2. At the time of writing this article, the device is one of the thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablets in the operating room. Android system.

Compact tablets with a display diagonal of seven or eight inches are more popular than their older, full-sized brothers, because they are lighter and more convenient to use in a canopy. Ten-inch tablets are often large and bulky. However, this has nothing to do with the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet - in terms of ease of use somewhere outside the home, due to its small mass and pleasant to the touch case, it is not inferior to more compact options. Hands do not get tired of it, even if you hold the tablet for a long time on weight. There is also a downside: the device looks noticeably simpler than the previous full-sized Sony tablet - Xperia Z2 Tablet.

The layout of the controls on the tablet is completely standard for Sony "tablets" - if you communicated with devices Xperia lineups Z Tablet earlier, then getting used to the new product will not be the slightest difficulty. There is nothing on the front panel except for the display and the front camera. The hardware power and volume keys are located on the left side. The buttons have a short and distinct stroke.

A universal 3.5 mm jack for connecting a wired headset is placed on the top end. Next to it is a slot for installing a microSD memory card and a Nano-SIM SIM card. The MHL interface, which combines a video output and a high-speed Micro-USB 3.0 port, is placed on the right side. It is noteworthy that the plastic plug has been amputated - protection against water ingress is implemented without it. The company calls this solution Cap-less USB. The lower edge of the tablet case is empty - with the advent of Cap-less USB, the need for a docking station connector has disappeared.

The back panel of the device is made of matte, pleasant to the touch plastic. It is rough, due to which the gadget does not slip in the hands. The body of the tablet is non-separable. On the rear panel is the main lens, 8-megapixel camera.

The device is assembled well: it withstands the test for twisting and breaking without any problems - when squeezing the sides, there are no suspicious backlashes and creaks, no color streaks appear on the screen. The body of the tablet, like the body of its predecessor, Z3 Tablet Compact, is protected from dust and moisture according to IP65 / 68 standards. This means that the Xperia Z4 Tablet can be submerged in fresh water up to one and a half meters deep for half an hour, provided that the cover for microSD and Nano-SIM cards is tightly closed. The Z4 Tablet is available in two colors - black and white.

⇡ Display

So, Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is the first tablet of the Japanese company, which has a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels. In terms of pixel count, WQXGA outperforms HD (1280 × 800) four times. The dot density of the Z4 Tablet display is high at 298.9 per inch. For a tablet computer, this is a very high figure. Considering that devices of this size are usually used at least at the distance of half-bent arms, in everyday life to see separate points on a tablet screen is absolutely impossible. If you bring the device close to your eyes, a small and completely insignificant roughness will be visible in small fonts. However, it's us after displays with 575 dpi have become so fastidious. In fact, the resolution in the Z4 Tablet is enough for the eyes - more tablet computer and it is not necessary, only the processor resources are wasted. In addition, there is simply no more resolution among tablets with a ten-inch display.

The manufacturer does not specify what type of matrix is used in the Z4 Tablet, limiting itself to a capacious description of "LCD". Judging by the behavior and characteristics, the device has an IPS or IPS-like matrix installed. Even when viewed from an angle, the picture on the display remains readable and understandable, the contrast practically does not drop. For example, watching a movie together on the display of the Xperia Z4 Tablet is quite convenient. True, there is one thing - when looking away from the perpendicular, the black color acquires a slight purple hue. This does not interfere with the work with the tablet, but it is noticeable.

The device supports up to ten simultaneous clicks and responds to touch in loose gloves. Gestures Z4 Tablet recognizes without problems. There were no erroneous and incorrect clicks during testing.

The display is made, of course, very high quality - in another way, Sony does not happen. The front panel is completely covered with protective tempered glass, not prone to scratches and other damage that spoil the appearance of the tablet. Between the matrix and the protective glass there is no air gap: The display is made using OGS - One Glass Solution technology. This has a positive effect on the amount of unwanted glare - reflections do not double. A very effective polarizing filter also helps to fight glare. Also, the screen has an oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating, thanks to which front panel devices are easy to clean from "fingers", dust and other small dirt.

Before testing the Z4 Tablet display, we disabled Sony's proprietary image enhancer - X-Reality for mobile, which, using some tricky algorithms, makes the picture on the screen "clearer and more natural" (quote). All display tests were performed without image enhancement software. In fairness, it must be said that all modern tablets and smartphones are equipped with automatic non-switchable brightness control depending on the type of image displayed on the screen. It makes it a little difficult to "honestly" evaluate the display. To somehow get around this, we measured the brightness and contrast on images filled with half white and half black (a la dominoes).

The device has a high brightness margin, and the backlight borders are very wide. The maximum white field luminosity of the Z4 Tablet display is 462 cd/m 2 , while the minimum is only 6.3 cd/m 2 . Thanks to this device, it is equally comfortable to use both in pitch darkness and in direct sunlight in the open air. In the first case, the screen will not be too bright for the eyes - you definitely won’t have to squint; in the second, there is enough backlight supply so that the picture on the screen does not fade. In other words, the tablet is convenient to use in any conditions and in any ambient light. The gadget is equipped with a light sensor, thanks to which it can independently adjust the display backlight level for specific conditions of use.

The luminosity of the black field at maximum screen brightness is moderate - 0.47 candela per square meter. Accordingly, the black color looks quite deep and saturated even at 100% display backlight level. The screen of the Z4 Tablet is quite contrasty - 983:1, which is very good for an IPS-type matrix.

The grayscale color temperature of the Z4 Tablet display is significantly higher than normal. On average, it is 9,750 K with a reference value of 6500 K. This, to put it mildly, is not good: the colors on the screen are cold, and this is really very noticeable. I am glad that the user can adjust the color temperature - such an opportunity is provided in the display settings.

The rest of the screen is set up very well. All gamma curves - and gray color, and primary colors - almost completely coincide with the reference curve. This means that all the midtones on the Xperia Z4 Tablet's display are as bright as they should be - neither brighter nor duller. The color rendition of the screen could be believable, if not for the cold tones.

Color gamut of the screen does not match the reference color space sRGB. Blue and green look a little deeper than they should, while green has an azure touch, and red tends to be a little pink. In general, Sony engineers should have calibrated the display more carefully.

⇡ Hardware and performance

The tablet runs on one of the most advanced systems-on-a-chip at the time of release, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 MSM8994. There were no devices with this SoC in our test lab yet - gadgets with it have just started to go on sale. This platform is based on the now popular ARM big.LITTLE architecture. At the disposal of the 810th are eight computing cores - four "power-saving" Cortex-A53, operating at a frequency of 1.5 GHz, and four Cortex-A57, operating at a frequency of 2 GHz. The modern ARMv8-A instruction set is used and, of course, 64-bit computing is supported. As a graphics accelerator, a new Qualcomm controller - Adreno 430 is used, operating at a frequency of 650 MHz. The platform is made using an energy-efficient 20nm HPm process technology.

The Z4 Tablet has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of built-in flash memory. The manufacturer, at least in Russia, does not offer a 16 GB version, like its predecessors. The device has a slot for microSD memory cards, so that if necessary, the user can increase the storage capacity by up to 128 GB.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet - the package deleted message indicates that the device itself, without the knowledge of the user, deleted the application

Unfortunately, we cannot evaluate in numbers how the combination of the new powerful Qualcomm platform and a display with a resolution of 2560 × 1600 works. The thing is that Sony decided to block the launch of synthetic tests (benchmarks) on devices for the press. The representative of the Japanese brand commented briefly: "The installation of test programs is prohibited due to the new policy of the company." We find this decision very strange. Benchmarks are perhaps the most objective way to evaluate the performance level of a device and compare it with the power of other gadgets. For some reason, Sony has deprived us of this. Even the completely harmless CPU-Z hardware manager - we could not install that one either.

The only "benchmark" from our suite of test applications that ran on the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is GFX Bench 3. In it, the device showed the expected high result: two thousand points when displaying an image on the screen and three thousand in offscreen mode. It is noteworthy that in the onscreen mode, the device "rested" against the V-sync border - sixty frames per second. It's really very good result- the picture during the test was updated very smoothly and smoothly. This result can be considered a kind of guarantee of the high level of performance of the Z4 Tablet. We could still understand the "new Sony policy" if the Japanese released some low-power and second-rate gadgets. But no: Sony makes fast and productive flagships. What is the point of blocking the installation of synthetic tests for them is not clear. Note that the notorious "new policy" applies exclusively to test samples. On the final samples, all applications will run normally.

⇡ Communication and interfaces

As we said, in nature there are two modifications of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet - one with a built-in modem, the other without. We are testing a version with a Nano-SIM card slot. Such a gadget can work in fourth-generation networks. theoretical maximum speed its data transfer rate for reception is 300 Mbps (LTE Cat. 6). True, it is only possible to get close to this figure if the operator equipment supports carrier frequency aggregation. The Big Three operators in Moscow, for example, have only recently begun to install the appropriate equipment on their towers and not yet everywhere. So it's not worth it to be too embarrassed.

It is noteworthy that with the Z4 Tablet you can not only surf the Internet outside the Wi-Fi coverage area, but also send SMS / MMS messages and even make calls. To be honest, talking on a tablet computer is inconvenient - you have to use a headset, because the audibility is frankly bad through the speakerphone. Of course, no one will talk on a ten-inch tablet every day, but as a backup means of communication, the Z4 Tablet is quite suitable. He helped us out a lot - exactly during testing, the author this material was left without a smartphone, and he had to talk on the tablet, because it was impossible to stay without a connection. Network connection Z4 Tablet keeps well, without visible reasons doesn't lose it.

The set of wireless interfaces of the device is quite standard. The device supports dual-frequency Wi-Fi with all common protocols, Bluetooth itself latest version 4.1 and NFC. For some reason, Sony refused the infrared port. It is strange, because the presence of this interface, as well as a magnetic connector for the docking station, has always been a "chip" of all gadgets of the Sony Xperia Z line. The radio module that communicates with GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou satellites is responsible for navigation in the device. Half a minute after the launch of the profile test, the device detected 16-19 satellites and was guided by ten of them. At the same time, the navigation error radius was small - only 13 meters. The device is oriented on the terrain really quickly - it is quite suitable for the role of a car navigator.

⇡ Camera

The set of cameras on the Z4 Tablet is not quite standard. Let's start with the fact that the tablet has a very advanced front-camera- it has a five-megapixel back-illuminated sensor, without an autofocus system. With this camera, you can take good self-portraits and make video calls in room lighting. In dim light, the picture is covered with noise and other artifacts, but still remains readable.

The rear camera here is quite ordinary - eight megapixels, with autofocus. She doesn’t have a flash, but the tablet computer doesn’t seem to really need it - anyway, the tablet’s camera is used mostly in emergency cases. Taking pictures of it every day is not the best idea, it is inconvenient for both the photographer and others. In fairness, it should be noted that in good light, the pictures on the Z4 Tablet are quite good - detailed, contrasting and with natural colors. The quality of photographs decreases significantly as the shooting conditions worsen. In the dark, the tablet's camera is powerless.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet

The camera app has all of Sony's signature features like AR Effect, Info-eye and more. You can read more about them in the Xperia Z1 review.

⇡ Offline work

The Z4 Tablet has a 22.2 Wh (6000 mAh, 3.7 V) battery, the same as the Xperia Z2 Tablet. It's good that, despite a significant reduction in the thickness of the case and the mass of the device, the engineers managed to maintain a decent battery capacity. Usually, the "lightening" of the case entails a decrease in the battery, but in this case this did not happen. And that is great.

In the continuous video playback mode, the device lasted just over six and a half hours. The videos played non-stop at maximum screen brightness, with an active Wi-Fi connection and data updates in the background. The result is decent, although not a record. To prolong battery life, just lower the screen brightness, turn off unused wireless modules, or use STAMINA's proprietary power saving mode.

⇡ Conclusion

We did not see anything fundamentally new in the Z4 Tablet. Sony took the previously released Xperia Z2 Tablet and upgraded it a bit. The body of the tablet has become thinner and lighter - in terms of ease of use, the full-sized ten-inch Z4 Tablet is not inferior to its more compact counterparts. Standard by today's standards full screen HD has been replaced with a 2K resolution display that is sharper than the previous model's screen. The stone "heart" of the device is one of the most modern systems-on-a-chip - Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, supplemented by 3 gigabytes of RAM. In general, everything is as usual: the most advanced hardware in a thin, light and beautiful wrapper. And all this can not be afraid to drown in the water.

Advantages of Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet:

  • one of the thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablets;
  • clear display - great for reading books and watching movies;
  • high level of performance - "complex" 3D toys do not slow down;
  • rich set of wireless interfaces, including LTE Cat. 6 and NFC;
  • The body of the tablet is protected from dust and moisture.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet Disadvantages:

  • the display of the device is not set up very well;
  • no infrared port;
  • it is impossible to run benchmarks on test instances.

There are no serious drawbacks to the new Sony tablet. Perhaps the only thing that can push you away from buying this device, is its high cost. As usual, you have to pay for everything good - and pay a lot ...

As devices, tablets were originally created for the active use of the Internet. To connect with it, all tablets support wireless network WiFi. The disadvantage of such devices is not ubiquitous WiFi networks. To overcome this shortcoming some tablet models are equipped with 3G or 4G modems. 4G tablets are not inferior to smartphones in terms of Internet connectivity, and some devices allow, among other things, to make voice calls. This capability makes tablets truly universal devices. The large screen is great for watching videos, surfing the Internet, and even typing in editors, as the large screen keyboard Tablets are much more convenient than what is used in smartphones.
Modern 4G modems can work both in 3G / 4G modes, and in slower ones, if you are in an area of uncertain reception. Nearly ubiquitous access to global network allows you to always be aware of the latest news, find the fastest route laid by modern navigation systems based on the traffic situation, quickly share photos and videos through social networks.
