It took me no more than 20 minutes to restore the monitor's performance, and in this article I will tell you step by step steps for self-repair.

I am sure you have heard the concept of “swollen” capacitors, this is the most common cause of failure of motherboards and computer power supplies, but LCD monitor power supply boards are no exception, which convert incoming 220 volts to 5 volts to power electrical circuits and 14 and more volts for the operation of the matrix and the backlight inverter.

If your monitor is not new and you admit the possibility of failure of the capacitors in the power supply, you need to inspect them appearance, for this you need to disassemble the monitor, as a rule, there is a metal box inside, and under it there are two boards, one power supply (where the 220 volt cord is inserted), and the second board is the low-voltage part itself, which is responsible for the operation and control of the monitor.

If you have a multimeter at hand, then turn on the disassembled monitor and measure the voltage at the output of the power supply, usually voltages are written next to the terminals, which should be on a working monitor. So, a Samsung monitor, namely Samsung SyncMaster 940nw. The malfunction was that a picture appeared on the screen for a short time, for about 1-2 seconds, after which the monitor immediately went out.

This monitor uses what is called fluorescent CCFL backlight. In simple terms, this is a backlight in the form of llamas, similar to lamps. daylight, only reduced tenfold. Lights these lamps, a special inverter that supplies high voltage on their cathodes, which causes the glow of these lamps. Most inverters have a fault protection that is activated if any of the lamps fail, the inverter itself breaks down, or there is insufficient power supplied to it. For ordinary user, the protection operation looks like this: the monitor turned on, at this moment the inverter analyzes whether everything is normal with the backlight, and if it finds a breakdown, it immediately turns off the backlight. The power supply is held on by 3 bolts, by unscrewing which, you can remove the board. Having removed the board, you can immediately see the cause of the monitor malfunction. It lies in three swollen electrolytic capacitors.
