    Durable, waterproof. It was given to me for my birthday. They immediately put it in a jug of water, in front of the amazed public)) The phone blew bubbles and accepted an incoming call! Effective!)) Only then did it take a long time to blow the moisture out of the microphone hole. And I was not heard until all the moisture was removed. Then everything returned to normal.

However, it still remained plastic and received a similar design to its predecessors. Security was achieved using rubber inserts and plugs. The device does not allow dust and water to penetrate, but it is better not to lower it to a depth. As for the filling, it is simply the best today: Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor (clock frequency 2500 MHz, Adreno 330 graphics chip, four cores), 5.1-inch display (Super AMOLED, 1920x1080), 2-megapixel front and 16-megapixel cameras, 2 GB of RAM, battery capacity 2800 mAh, operating Android system 4.4 KitKat (Google).

: Not every phone can survive merciless treatment. Rather, on the contrary, all devices are afraid of moisture - just getting into a puddle, not to mention accidentally swimming in the sink, and that’s it, you have to go get a new one.

The Xcover 271 phone, introduced a couple of months ago by Samsung, is essentially a unique offer: there are simply no inexpensive means of communication with a similar level of protection from external influences on the market. A phone of this level can be useful to a wide range of users: many are thinking about purchasing such a device, which they may not handle very carefully due to the nature of their work, but at the same time they do not want to be left without communication.

That's exactly what the Samsung B2710 is: a universal solution to all problems. A relatively simple functionally, but not entirely ascetic, with comfortable ergonomics, a phone made from practical materials for all occasions.

Appearance

A secure phone naturally includes a candy bar design: a minimum of moving parts ensures maximum security for the device. The Samsung B2710 is just such a solution that can withstand life's challenges along the way.

Samsung Xcover Available in two color options: black (Black noir) and orange (Metallic orange). Black is the most trivial, I can’t say anything special about a sample of this color, it will probably become more popular. I liked orange, it’s such a dark and muted color, not as bright as the same Nokia N8, but at the same time the phone stands out due to the inserts on the front panel, as well as being completely painted in this color back housings.

One could speculate that it would be interesting to see other colors - something close in spirit to war paint - but for now the choice is limited to only these two types.

The phone dimensions are 120.7 x 53 x 17.9 mm, weight - 115 g. The all-in-one is a larger-than-average device; it is large, but I can’t call it bulky; in this case, due to the concept of a secure device, the Xcover looks quite organic. Despite the rather large thickness of the case, I carried the phone in my jeans pocket and did not experience any inconvenience.

As for ergonomics and general ease of use, everything is fine here. The phone fits perfectly in the hand, thanks to the large buttons it is comfortable to use with gloves, which is especially important during the winter cold.

The Samsung B2710 case is made of plastic of various textures. Multi-colored inserts on front panel, the back cover is made of non-slip material, quite rigid. The sidewalls of the Xcover are also made of a similar material. The inserts on the sides of the case are made of gray plastic. It is unpainted, which means that even under conditions of prolonged and careless use, the coating will not peel off.

About half of the front part of the phone is allocated for the display. The screen is reliably protected from damage by a durable fiberglass coating, which reliably protects the screen from scratches and abrasions, withstands impacts, and leaves no traces of external influences on it.

At the top there is a slot in which the earpiece is located.

Below the screen there is a block of control keys and a keyboard. At the bottom, in the center of the pad, you can see the microphone hole.

The top end of the phone will delight tourists with the presence of a powerful mount to which you can attach a carabiner. But it should not be very large.

There is also a flashlight that shines brightly. It’s convenient that you can turn it on even when the keyboard is locked. The flashlight is turned on by a separate button, which is located on the right side of the phone. It is large, has a clear stroke, and is comfortable to press.

Below is a microUSB port. A cable, a charger, and a wired headset are connected to it. The connector is reliably protected by a plug, it is sealed, moisture does not get in there, which has been proven by testing.

On the left side of the device there is a paired volume control key; it has a soft and pliable action and is pressed with little effort. The buttons are large and sized to ensure proper comfort when using the device.

The sides of the phone are equipped with convex inserts made of black plastic; the coating applied to it allows you to use the phone without the risk of dropping it. The overlays have small indentations; the relief, in turn, also contributes to a more secure grip.

The back of the phone can be painted black or orange, the coating is durable, scratch-resistant and shock-resistant. Under the mount at the top of the case there is a 2-megapixel camera lens, next to it is the phone's speaker, which is hidden under a protective membrane.

The cover of the phone is also embossed, it is made in the general style of the case. It stays securely in its place: a special connector can be opened only with the help of some improvised means (a coin, for example). There are two small pins at the bottom that hold the lid in place during drops, but during field testing it turned out that they are not able to fix the panel during strong impacts.

The battery is not fixed in place very tightly - it has a small movement, in any case, it was present in the two tested samples. Below it there is a slot for a SIM card and a slot for microSD memory cards. “Hot” replacement of the media is not possible, but I don’t think this can be attributed to the disadvantages of the model; it is unlikely to be removed often.

The Xcover is assembled perfectly: there are no gaps or cracks, the phone does not make any squeaks when compressed. There is nothing to complain about, a very high level of production.

Keyboard

The block of control keys and the telephone keyboard are one and the same; they are located on the same rubber pad. All buttons are large and can be pressed without error. The keys are separated from each other by grooves, thanks to these grooves it is convenient to use the phone when typing. Pressing is accompanied by soft, dull clicking sounds, a pleasant mechanical sound. The buttons are pressed with little effort; you won’t be able to press the keyboard accidentally.

On the left and right there are function buttons (the left one allows you to enter the phone menu, and the right one calls up the contact list), below them are the keys for accepting and rejecting calls. Also, the end call button turns the phone on and off.

In the center there is a five-position navigation button. It is large and it is convenient to control your phone with it. The key stands out with its silver color. The edging is difficult to scratch; even with keys it was difficult to scratch it. Pressing the center of the key confirms the action. You can assign a function to the movement of the joystick in all four directions; this setting is provided in the menu, where you can select the desired item from the available options.

The symbols are printed in white and are clearly visible in any environment. Key backlight works white.

Screen

The Samsung Xcover TFT display has a diagonal of 2.0 inches, displays up to 262 thousand colors, and the resolution is 240x320 pixels.

The viewing angles are small, the colors of the pictures are noticeably distorted, you just need to turn the phone slightly on its side. On the street, the image fades, but remains readable. Under bright sun the data can be seen, but the image quality is poor strengths devices cannot be attributed.

The screen has several levels of brightness adjustment, which allow you to select the optimal backlight level.

The fiberglass coating of the screen resists scratches well; there is no damage from being in your pocket with keys or other scratchy objects.

The question arises: is it even possible to scratch the screen? The answer is yes. But you have to press hard on the display, and not all keys are capable of this, so I can confidently say that the screen is protected at the highest level.

Strength

Samsung Xcover provides IP67 level protection, which means it is protected from dust and also from moisture; the device must work in water. And this of course implies complete sealing of the housing.

Having received a test sample, it was interesting to test its strength. I’ll say right away that in ordinary life it’s difficult to imagine what Xcover experienced.

As the first tests showed, the phone can easily withstand falls from a small height (from a table to the floor, for example), and it resists scratching both the screen and parts of the case.

The fiberglass coating of the display is really very reliable; if you carry the phone in your pocket with various small things like keys, it is very difficult to get scratches. As can be seen in the photographs, on protective glass traces of them remained. But only one key from the bunch could leave them, and even then it had to be pressed with great effort. In everyday use, this is, in my opinion, almost impossible.

The phone works effortlessly in water; if you wish, you can take it for a swim in the river or go to the sea without fear of damaging the device. The B2710 not only withstands liquid testing, but also cold testing. I froze the phone in the freezer several times, in 10 hours it transformed into an ice block, without draining the battery. It was possible to call the phone, as can be seen in the video that I give as an example.

Then came the time for more aggressive testing. And the first thing that came to mind was hitting the wall. The phone survived falls on asphalt without any major damage; only scars and scratches on the corners of the case indicated the impact on the surface. I threw the phone down the stairs - the Samsung Xcover climbed the flight, and several times it happened that the back cover was lifted and the mount in the lower part of the case did not hold up. The panel was held in place only by a screw.

In general, when I went out into the open spaces of the street, I found a suitable brick wall. I was filming a video with one hand and the phone in the other, so throwing with all my might didn’t work. But one blow was enough for the cover, which is located in the upper part of the case, to fly off the Xcover, and the cover on the left side also bounced off, while the volume button also fell out.

After the second throw, the situation with the lid repeated itself. Two small protrusions at the bottom could not hold it in place; they jumped out of the grooves. Snow has piled up under the panel; the video shows the battery dangling. The situation was saved only by a reliable fastening, a clamp that cannot be unscrewed without a means at hand came to the rescue. Otherwise, you would have to look for part of the phone nearby (both the cover and the battery).

What happened next? At home, I left the phone to dry, I did not remove the cover, the snow melted in the phone, after which I simply poured out the water. I wiped the battery and... B2710 started working. At first, the earpiece was quiet, but then it dried out and the volume returned to almost normal levels - the difference with the second sample was small. The phone worked fine and can be used as a regular device if the missing parts are put in place.

At this point, strength testing was stopped. What did the tests show? I concluded for myself that the B2710 Xcover is a reliable phone for all occasions. It’s unlikely that a sane person would torture his phone like that, it’s pointless, you can break anything if you want to.

The protected Samsung is sealed, you can drown it, but it will not stop working. It will not get wet in the rain or snow - and these are the main enemies of mobile devices; moisture and corrosion quickly kill phones.

After the practical part, theory time - a story about the capabilities of the device.

Interface

Service information is displayed on the display, and the user also has the ability to customize the desktop at his own discretion, fortunately, the possibilities are wide. You can move the clock around or remove it completely; there are a number of application icons that can be activated without going into the menu, which is convenient. There can be 15 such applications, choose them at your discretion. For example, you can display a calendar on your desktop, display time in two time zones, display information about missed calls, unread messages and a lot of other useful information.

An interesting feature is the use of icons for quick communication with subscribers from the phone book. Up to 18 such contacts can be present on the desktop; each can be assigned a picture for clarity; part of the name is also displayed, but not completely. By selecting a contact, you can see if there have been missed messages or calls from him, as well as make a call, write an SMS message or email. From here you can add new data to a contact or view current information about it. If desired, you can remove all output Additional information, if a laconic design style is preferred.

The menu consists of 12 icons, 3x4. They cannot be swapped. Navigation using numeric keys throughout the menu works. I really liked that the phone remembers the last item the user stopped at. You can exit to the desktop, log in again, the cursor will be placed on the section where the user was before, if you enter it after that, you will end up in the same place.

Soft keys (the left button opens “Menu”, the right button “Contacts”) cannot be reassigned to perform other functions. The menu is navigated using the number keys, and the volume buttons are also used.

The menu is modified using preset design themes, there are 4 of them in total, one of them is called Living World - the image is animated, it is lighter in the morning, darker in the evening, birds fly on the phone screen, an interesting idea. You can set a picture for your desktop, select a font style in the menu and when typing phone number.

Phone book

When you open your contacts, you can see 3 categories. The first is the contacts themselves, which are stored both in the phone’s memory and on the SIM card, of which up to 1000 can be stored in the phone. The other is groups that you can create yourself, adding up to 20 contacts to each, and also assign a melody subscribers combined into one category. And the last one is a self-generated list of favorite contacts (of which there can be no more than 18), which are also displayed on the desktop if such a function is enabled in the settings. The list of numbers is ordered by first or last name. The phone can display numbers that are stored in the phone memory or on the SIM card, both together and separately.

Each contact can be assigned 5 numbers, and you can also select a type: mobile, landline, video call, car phone, fax). You can specify multiple addresses from additional data Email, send a contact to a group, set a birthday date (it will appear in the calendar), and also add a text note.

To the names recorded in the phone book, you can add a ringtone, a picture, either from the preset ones or from those you added yourself to the phone’s memory or to a flash card. Supports synchronization with remote servers, for example, I used my Google account, having received all the necessary data.

In contacts there is a function to search for a subscriber by first letter. There is a speed dial function; you can assign 8 such contacts to the number keys.

Call log

The call log consists of several categories: all, missed, dialed numbers, received calls, sent messages, received messages. The first section includes all actions: calls, messages, emails, messages from social networks. This is convenient, you can view the entire list and quickly find the information you need, there is no need to go to different menus.

Each of the other categories displays up to 30 numbers. The number of conversations with each subscriber is also displayed next to the numbers: if you hover over the number of interest and enter this item, the phone will display the date and time of calls.

From the call log, you can add a number to an existing contact or create a new one. There is a “black list” function. There is a call log, which displays the time of calls (divided into incoming, outgoing, etc.), a counter of messages and transferred data. The phone has a fake call feature.

Messages

This section contains SMS and MMS. The phone has a memory for 1300 messages, and additional SIM card capabilities can be used. As such, there is no division between SMS and MMS: adding a picture, melody or long text, it automatically turns into multimedia. The limit for MMS messages is 300 KB. There is a signal repeat function: if the message has not been read by the owner of the phone, the device can sound a sound signal after a certain period of time (after 2.5 or 10 minutes). There is T9, which helps with typing.

Messages are grouped both as dialogs and displayed in one shared folder. Font scaling works: this can be done either from the menu, or you can increase or decrease the size of the characters with a drop of the volume control. When sending messages, the phone offers not only recipients from the phone book, but also numbers previously used in correspondence. Unwanted recipients can be blocked, messages received from them will be automatically added to the spam folder, from where they can then be deleted.

Email

To check email, configure the built-in client necessary for this purpose. You can enter several accounts, the built-in application will help you set up mailboxes on such popular resources as Google, Yahoo, Windows Live. Creating a mailbox from the popular Mail.ru did not pose any difficulties. Mail can be viewed as a general list, or you can study the contents individually different boxes. As with SMS, you can scale the font. MAP4, POP3, SMTP, SSL, TLS are supported.

You can set up automatic synchronization on your phone by setting the desired fixed time period (from 30 minutes to 1 day), set the maximum size of the downloaded email (from 100 KB to 5 MB), as well as the number of email messages downloaded to the phone’s memory. An automatic signature can be added to letters sent from your phone. You can also attach any file that is in the phone's memory.

Message blocking works, letters are sent to separate folder without ending up in your inbox. In general, the email client is implemented well, except that the verification interval is almost automatically selected for all accounts, which may not be very convenient.

Camera

The phone is equipped with a 2-megapixel CMOS module without autofocus. There is no flash, and there is no macro mode either. The camera can only be launched from the menu; there is no dedicated key. It’s a little strange that the interface is adapted for shooting in horizontal position, taking pictures while holding the phone in your hand this way is not particularly convenient.

In the camera settings, you can set the location for saving pictures (phone memory or card). You can modify the display settings by adding or removing auxiliary characters.

Mp3 player

The phone supports playing songs from a memory card, supports the A2DP profile, with which you can listen to music on wireless headphones. Album covers included in song tags are displayed; no problems with encoding were noticed either. The phone plays MP3, WMA, AAC, eAAC, eACC+ formats. Music library supports following settings plays: all tracks, playlists, albums, artists, genres, frequently played, rarely played.

There is a mode for replaying both one song and all. You can give your own assessment of the available compositions, rating them using a five-star system. You can listen to music from playlists compiled on your computer or create your own. The player is minimized, it will play in the background, and the player menu will be displayed on the desktop, in which you can move between tracks and change the music volume.

The display shows the track name, playing time, and song number. The covers included in the file tags are displayed correctly on the screen, and the cover assigned to the song is also shown. You can assign a rating to a track on a five-point scale. The track you are listening to can be assigned as a call or message melody, assigned to a subscriber, or set as an alarm. The player can turn off after a specified period of time (from 30 minutes to 2 hours of operation in the background).

The user has 9 preset equalizer settings available to the user, but cannot set their own parameters. Interestingly, in the settings you can reassign the actions of the keyboard keys and control the player with their help.

Surely many people will like the ability to recognize songs (the phone records it using a voice recorder; a configured GPRS profile is required to access the network to receive data about the song).

It is difficult to evaluate the sound quality, since the included headset is quite simple, and the device, due to its design, does not have a separate jack for connecting your own headphones. But for the undemanding user, the phone's player will be just right.

Radio

The phone allows you to listen to the radio both through headphones and through the phone speaker. There is support for RDS, the device can tune to radio frequencies independently, saving them, you can independently set priority stations and assign a name to them. There is a recording function from the radio; you can save an audio file to a card or phone memory. The receiver also works in the background. There is a timer; after the set period, the radio will stop working.

Multimedia

Images that have been added to the device’s memory are stored here, as well as pictures and videos taken with the phone’s camera. Essentially, this is the same file browser, but with some additions. You can rate the picture, assign a label to it, thereby organizing the files. Data is sent from the gallery via Bluetooth, E-mail or MMS.

File Manager

The volume of built-in memory is 25 MB. The memory card slot is blocked by the battery, you need to remove it, so you can't quickly change the card. The test used cards with a capacity of 4-32 GB, all of them worked flawlessly. The built-in file browser can transfer files from folders in the phone memory and memory card, copy, rename and delete them.

Through it you can view and listen to a variety of content. Images are shown as a vertical list or as a matrix of preview images. You can use the built-in photo editor and change the image.

Browser

The built-in Internet browser of NetFront 3.5 version can display the image on the entire screen, there are pop-up mini-windows during navigation, and the ability to scale the font size. It works reliably and opens large pages, although not very quickly. enjoy pre-installed application or not - it’s up to the user to decide; I leave my choice to Opera Mini, which can be installed on the phone as an auxiliary solution.

Organizer

The calendar can be shown either as a week or as a month. Can be withdrawn single list all the events entered into it, there can be 2 types of them in the phone’s memory: meeting and anniversary. The start and end times of the reminder are set. Additionally, a warning signal is installed. The event is assigned a repetition: every day, weekly, biweekly, monthly, annually. You can select the default calendar view: day, week or month, and also set the start day of the week.

Tasks allow you to create events different types with notice.

The phone also stores various text notes in its memory.

You can create 10 alarms by setting the day and time of the alert, with the ability to set the alarm at your discretion. The volume and melody of the signal and the pause between repeated activations are adjusted (from 3 to 30 minutes). The alarm can be set either once or every day, or you can choose repeat days yourself. The phone can only send a vibration signal or a melody, but you can combine them together.

World time displays the current hour in different time zones.

There is a stopwatch and a timer.

The voice recorder records sounds without a time limit; it is limited only by the amount of free space in the phone's memory or the card installed in it.

The unit converter is simple and straightforward.

Search – a convenient and fast-running application helps you find the information you need on your phone. Searches in all categories, including contacts, messages, music, mail and other data.

Digital compass shows direction. The inconvenient thing is that it needs to be calibrated every time (you need to turn the phone in several directions).

There is a separate menu item where remote synchronization is configured.

Kit Google applications includes Maps, as well as two hyperlinks: one through the phone browser leads to the “Search” section, and the second to Gmail.

Built-in navigation is used google maps Maps, which are good for everyone, but have one drawback - they require an active network connection. If you wish, you can install Yandex.Maps with a cache and work with them offline.

From the point of view of the system, everything is conveniently implemented, scaling works using the keyboard, you can create routes for both pedestrians and motorists, there are several types of terrain display, and traffic jams are shown.

GPS works accurately enough to determine your position within the city. For a motorist the screen will be small, but for a pedestrian this solution is just right.

The calculator is equipped with basic functions.

There is an application called Utalk, which is a tool for communication and correspondence. You can also exchange messages via Bluetooth if the other person's phone supports this function.

Applications for Twitter and Facebook allow you to communicate with friends and acquaintances on these networks.

Downloads are a store of applications and various content for the device.

Profiles are 6 different preset and customizable phone settings. The user can create 3 more independently. They change the volume of the ringer, message and keyboard signals, the melody of the call and messages, the type of signal, and turn on the keyboard sound.

Communications

The phone operates in the GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and 3G 900/2100 MHz bands.

When connecting to a computer, you can either set a single profile initially, or select the parameter of interest each time. The following settings are possible: PC Studio, Media Player,USB Mass Storage. In the latter case, it works to transfer various data from the phone to the computer without the need to install drivers.

There is Bluetooth 2.1, which, among many others, also supports the A2DP profile, which is necessary for listening to music using a wireless stereo headset.

Working hours

Installed in the phone lithium ion battery, its capacity is 1300 mAh. Official data says that talk time is up to 14.5 hours on 2G networks and up to 6.3 hours on 3G networks. In standby mode, the phone can work up to 25 and 24 days, respectively.

Using the phone every day, I got the following results. By turning on everything possible (pedometer, automatic email synchronization after a minimum period of 30 minutes, Twitter updating after 15 minutes, regular weather forecast updates), talking for 30 minutes a day, and also using the built-in client for communicating on Twitter, I discharged phone in three days.

If you use network connections more moderately (synchronize data less often or manually), but still talk a lot, send SMS and use other functions, then the device will work for 5-7 days. Complete refusal network connections adds a few more days of work.

The autonomy is excellent, I am very pleased with the performance of the phone. The battery is charged not only from network device, but also from the computer’s USB port. But the charging time from a regular outlet is long, it is about 4 hours.

Conclusion

The volume of the speaker is not the highest, the phone does not ring at the highest level, I expected more from a model for an active lifestyle.

In a noisy place, subway or on a busy street, you have to talk at the maximum level, and there is no more reserve left, and sometimes you want to add a few more levels. The vibrating alert is below average in power; in loose winter clothes it is felt weakly (for example, snowboarding pants; in jeans it is even more or less normal).

The protection of the model is at a high level; rigorous tests have shown that despite rough and unceremonious handling of the phone, Xcover fulfills its main function - it provides communication, even when it becomes unkempt.

I became the owner of the B2710 even before I received the device for testing, in the winter touch devices They are inconvenient in severe frosts, but the relatively simple Samsung has become my constant companion. It has an excellent set of functions, which is enough for everyday life, without depriving the phone owner of network activity, without which life becomes increasingly difficult.

The device is very nice, convenient and practical, the cost of the phone, which is about 5-6 thousand rubles, is completely justified, the device is worth the money. I am happy to recommend it for purchase, for some it may become the main phone, for others it will be used periodically, but in any case, pleasant emotions from Xcover are guaranteed.

Introduction

Recently, “secure” phones have become increasingly in demand, and demand, as we know, creates supply. And today, indeed, there is plenty to choose from:

  • 3 protected phones from Texet - TM-502R (with protection class - IP65 and with a removable gray protective casing that fits over the phone), TM-503RS (the same as the previous model, but with solar battery on the back cover and casing are already yellow) and new model- TM-510R (orange with a beautiful keyboard, an external compass on a cord and protection class - IP67, but has serious complaints about the build quality!);
  • Fly OD1 (in two colors - black and green, and IP54 protection class);
  • Discovery Expedition from the well-known company Huawei (protection - IP57; if you follow this link, you can watch an interesting crash test of this phone on the Onliner website!);
  • Outfone BD351G (with a very interesting package, which, for example, includes: a second spare battery, a removable external antenna and a flashlight for charging the phone itself!);
  • several phones from iTravel (they even have a non-sinking model - IM121B!);
  • 4 models from the new company Senseit (with protection class - IP67, with class - IP57, - IP57, and - IP57 - the latter can even be called - “the first protected grandfather phone”!);
  • and several “armored cars” from Sonim (these are the most expensive rugged phones, their cost starts from 10 thousand rubles and reaches about 30, although they are not much different from some other similar phones at a much lower cost! By the way, the first two models from Texet look very similar to Sonim phones).

And smartphone lovers also have plenty to choose from:

  • Samsung 5690 Galaxy Xcover (protection class - IP67);
  • Motorola Defy and Motorola Defy+ (both are not officially available in our country);
  • Senseit P4 (protection - IP67);
  • several rugged smartphones from Sony, which is actively producing similar devices: Sony Ericsson Xperia Active (with IP67 protection class and a body more suitable for travel than other similar smartphones), Sony Xperia go (with IP67 protection) and Sony Xperia acro S (protection - IP57);
  • and also - Texet TM-3200R (the only smartphone today that has a truly protected case from falls, but in terms of technical characteristics it is weaker than other protected smartphones!).

Photo gallery of protected "all-terrain vehicles":

But all of them are surpassed by the two latest secure phones from Samsung - B2710 and C3350! They outperform some in terms of functionality (Fly and all models from Texet, iTravel and Senseit), others in terms of price (Discovery Expedition, Outfone BD351G and especially Sonim), and others in terms of protection and operating time (these are all rugged phones with weak batteries and protection class below IP67, as well as all smartphones - they are not protected from serious falls, except for Texet TM-3200R, and have weaker batteries, so they are more suitable for use in the city - you can talk on them in the rain without fear and press the displays with wet fingers) .

Therefore, this review will be devoted to a detailed comparison of the previous secure phone from Samsung - B2710 - and the new one - C3350. First of all, the review will be of interest to those who already have a B2710 (they will know what to expect or not to expect from a new phone), and to those who, on the contrary, do not have a previous phone and are planning to purchase a new one - C3350 (for them - detailed description of the phone and its capabilities).

In general, this review, with the same success, could have been published on the page of the B2710 phone, but I have already devoted two admiring reviews to it ( and ) and therefore decided to publish it here, on the page of the C3350 phone, especially since I haven’t talked about it yet told. [Review is available on the pages of both phones. - Approx. ed.]

If anyone is interested in finding out how the numbers are deciphered, indicating the protection class of phones (IP54/67 and others) and which manufacturers of such phones love to brag about, then you can follow this link - it is given there detailed information! I also note that these numbers only speak about protection from dust and water, but not about protection of the case during falls! In this case, you need to look at the body itself, if it has large dimensions and various linings from different materials- that means he is well protected! So far there are no special criteria or numbers by which one could determine how strongly the case itself is protected, so each manufacturer makes them as it sees fit.

Story

Well, first things first, and first a short excursion into history. In 2008, Samsung decided to meet users halfway and release its first secure phone, and in order not to take risks (since this was their first such experience), it was decided to take a proven budget model as a basis (according to one information it became C140, and according to another - C170) and turn its body into a protected one. This is how the first secure phone from Samsung, the M110, saw the light (or rolled off the production line). And although it had the maximum protection class at that time - IP54 (good protection from dust and sand, but weak from water - by the way, the modern Fly OD1 has exactly the same!), some professional reviewers of mobile technology considered its protection rather weak and called it - “pseudo-defense” (or “parody of defense”). But this circumstance did not at all prevent the company from selling it in Europe in large quantities (apparently, the shortage of such phones at that time had an effect), which came as a complete surprise to the company itself, because They didn’t believe in this idea from the very beginning!

It was produced in two colors (black and green) and had following parameters: size - 109x48x17.9 mm, weight - 95 g, screen diagonal - 1.52 inches, battery - 1000 mAh, Bluetooth version 1.2 (now this is an old, slow version), radio, camera - 0.3 MP with flash, which could work as a weak flashlight, also included a strap with a carabiner. The starting price of the phone in our country was too high (a common thing for Samsung devices!) and amounted to about 4,000 rubles.

Encouraged by the sales of its first “secure” phone, Samsung released its next similar phone in the same 2008 - B2700. It had 3 colors (gray, blue and red) and the following technical characteristics: dimensions 115x52x18 mm, weight - 107 g, screen diagonal - 1.9" and resolution - 176x220, internal memory - 30 MB plus a slot for memory cards (up to 8 GB), a 2 MP camera, a 1300 mAh battery, as well as a radio, pedometer, compass, altimeter and flashlight (completely useful functions on a hike and even necessary for a secure phone!), and the kit included a strap with a carabiner and a headset and a device for removing the back cover. The protection class remains the same - IP54, but the body of the device has become stronger and more protected, withstanding serious falls!

A year later, in March 2009, Samsung released its next secure phone - B2100, which again had 3 colors (red, dark gray and green), and its characteristics were as follows: dimensions 113x48.9x17.4 mm, weight 103 g, screen diagonal - 1.77" and resolution - 120x160, battery - 1000 mAh, camera - 1.3 MP, and a flashlight. In general, it became a little smaller in size and lighter than the previous model, but at the same time it lost in all other parameters, except for the protection class, which it already had quite decent - IP57, that is, it was protected from water as well as modern “protected” phones!

Then it was the turn of the E2370 phone, released in 2010 (that is, also a year later). Its screen parameters were the same as the previous model, the dimensions of the steel case were 112x49x19 mm, and the weight was 117 g, the camera resolution dropped to a mocking 0.3 MP (as in the company’s very first secure phone!), the built-in memory was increased only 9 MB (but it was still possible to use memory cards), of the functions necessary for rugged phones, only a flashlight remained, and the protection class decreased and became the same as it was for the very first rugged phone (M110) and the B2700 (released 2 years ago) - IP54!

In general, it would have been a complete failure if not for one circumstance - it had the most record-breaking battery among all rugged phones - 2000 mAh, thanks to which it became famous in the first place (even now many phones cannot boast of such a battery! ), it allowed him to stay in standby mode for up to 1600 hours (according to other sources - 1040 hours) and work up to 22 hours in talk mode! And precisely because of this powerful battery The phone weighs more than all other Samsung rugged phones of all time!

In the same 2010, Samsung released (the starting price in our country is about 4,790 rubles) another secure phone - it was the brutally handsome B2710, which had 2 colors (black and red) and was superior in functionality to all the company’s previous secure phones, and even now many multimedia phones do not have the capabilities that he had at that time (although usually rugged phones are made less functional than "simple" mid-range phones)!!!

Its technical characteristics were as follows: dimensions - 120.7x53x17.9 mm, weight - 115 g, the screen diagonal increased to 2.0 inches, and the resolution became 240x320 (i.e. the screen became larger than on all previous rugged phones of the company ), battery - 1300 mAh, which allowed talking for up to 14.5 hours (according to other sources, up to 19 hours!), and in standby mode it could last up to 600 hours, the camera became 2 megapixels (also more than on all previous phones !), internal memory became 34 MB and support for memory cards up to 32 GB appeared (according to other sources - up to 16 GB, but usually, as practice shows, the manufacturer greatly underestimates this figure), a compass, pedometer, flashlight appeared again (yes one that you won’t find on any other phone!!!), a radio with the ability to record (and immediately into the main music format - MP3), and navigation has also appeared - GPS and GPS+ (or a-GPS)!

It had the maximum protection class at that time - IP67 (now some protected phones from Sonim already have a protection class of IP68, but in reality 67 is quite enough!). This means it is completely dust/sand proof and can be submerged in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes, and can withstand extreme temperatures - something that has been tested by extreme users! Although these figures, of course, are underestimated and are only the guarantee that Samsung can confidently give that nothing bad will happen to the phone in such conditions and it will continue to be fully functional!

I remember reading one review from the happy owner of this phone, who told how he drowned this phone in a river, the depth of which was not at all a meter (recommended by the manufacturer), and it lay there not for 30 minutes, but for a day or even two, during which it I looked for him at the bottom. As a result, he found it and they were very happy to meet each other again, especially the phone ☺, which continued to please its owner with trouble-free operation! Another user reported that he actually dived with this phone into the sea, to a depth of 15 meters - and the phone didn’t care at all! There is no point in listing all the amazing records this phone has, many of us have seen them on the Internet and seen what it is really capable of. But, of course, you shouldn’t repeat such experiments (especially since others have already done them for you!), of course, if you want him to continue to please you! But when some force majeure situation happens, it will definitely not let you down! Yes, Samsung has come a long way, especially if you remember their very first “secure” phone!

And so, again, a year later (in October 2011), Samsung distinguished itself again and released a new secure phone - C3350 - thereby preventing everyone from enjoying the previous phone! It had, unlike all the previous ones, only one color (officially - “gray steel”) and at the start of sales it cost approximately the same as the previous phone, but I managed to save a lot by ordering it from the online store " Ozone"! I was one of the first to purchase this phone, because... I believed that it would be better than before, and judging by its characteristics, it turned out that way: dimensions - 122x53x17.9 mm, weight - 110 g, screen resolution remained the same - 240x320, but the diagonal increased to 2.2", camera and the battery also remained the same - 2 megapixels and 1300 mAh, respectively, although the operating time increased (which is strange with the enlarged screen, maybe they somehow improved energy saving) and now it could work up to 19 hours of talk time and up to 1000 hours In standby, inner memory also increased - up to 50 MB (plus, of course, a memory card up to 32 GB), the radio began to work without headphones!

But the main thing is that the protection class remained the same - IP67, so all those fantastic protection capabilities that the previous phone had applied to this one too!

If you look at the technical specifications, you will notice that new phone surpasses the previous one in almost all respects, I was even surprised myself while listing them! But if you work with them a little, a completely different picture opens up, not so rosy! This is the comparison we will now make!

Minuses

I’ll do the opposite and first talk about its disadvantages in order to end the story on an optimistic note! The package contents of both phones turned out to be completely identical (one to one, they even “forgot” to include the USB cable for connecting to the PC!), except for the instructions, which the previous phone had in the form of a thick small book (with a detailed description of the phone’s functions and color pictures), but for a new phone it’s just a folded sheet, the kind you usually put on budget phones(up to 1000 rubles) - this is not the kind of instruction a phone worth almost 5 thousand rubles should have!

The box has also become much smaller, more similar to that of the E2370 - although this circumstance cannot be considered a minus, saving paper (and therefore saving our forests) can only be welcomed!

But if you pay attention to the sizes and identical inscriptions on the boxes of the E2370 and C3350 phones (“Xcover” and “Xcover 2”, respectively), then we can assume that the C3350 model is a direct continuation of the E2370 model, then a lot falls into place and a lot can be explained , for example, why did the C3350 turn out worse than the B2710, but better than the E2370! It was just necessary to swap the time of release of the B2710 and C3350 phones, then everything would become logical and each new phone would become better than the previous one!

At first, when I just purchased my first rugged phone - Samsung B2710, its size made a shocking impression, especially compared to my favorite ultra-thin one - Nokia 5310 (my review of it), but then I quickly got used to it, and now it is very It fits comfortably in your hand, you don’t even want to let go!

The new model, although it has become a little lighter in weight, looks larger in width and this makes it uncomfortable in the hand, as if it doesn’t fit in it! But what’s most interesting is that the dimensions of both phones are completely the same (only the new phone is taller in height, and then only by 2 mm)!!! I didn’t even believe this information indicated in the technical specifications, and measured both phones - indeed, the numbers turned out to be correct and both phones have exactly the same dimensions, even surprisingly! Apparently, due to the increased diagonal of the screen, as well as the body painted in a certain way to resemble metal, an optical illusion is created and the C3350 looks wider and thinner, which in turn affects the perception of its weight in the hand - it feels heavier, although in reality In fact, it is even 5 g lighter than the previous one!

The keyboard has also become less comfortable, especially the entire central key (on the previous two phones the keyboards were much better, with high, separated keys!). And as the advertisement for the B2710 phone said - “you can type SMS even with gloves on!” - this is unlikely to be possible on the new phone!

Conclusion

Well, that's all I wanted to tell you about these phones! Read, think, choose! Although you don’t really have to choose, since the B2710 has long been discontinued and can hardly be found in stores (only in some little-known and dubious online stores, although I even saw it in the famous SotMarket, but there it is now it costs even more than it cost 2 years ago at the very beginning of sales, the store justifies its status - “one of the most expensive stores in the network”!), another option is to buy it second-hand from a good friend.

Samsung B2710 - the most the best phone among all the rugged phones released so far!!! But if I didn’t have it and had nothing to compare it to, then I would probably be satisfied with the functionality and protection of the C3350! Therefore, if you do not have a B2710 at your disposal and you have a need to purchase a “secure” phone, then look towards the Samsung C3350! And if you compare it with “protected” phones from other manufacturers, it will beat them in terms of price-functionality-quality ratio! That's why he has no competitors now, take him - he won't let you down! And the title of this review reflects only a comparison of these two phones, but not them separately!

If in my first reviews I rated the B2710 phone at 8 points, now I would give it the full maximum 10 points, but I can’t give the C3350 more than 7 points, and that’s only for its powerful protection, excellent player and good camera.

And during the first months of operation, they take care of it, buy various covers, and are afraid of dropping it. For many years, we were similar users and were quite sensitive to our mobile devices. All this continued until I received it for testing. mobile phone Samsung GT-B2710 Xcover, which is ready to work in the most incredible conditions for a mobile phone.

Before I got acquainted with the telephone, I could never afford to try to destroy the phone - it was always a pity to destroy a working device. But it often happens that the mobile phone slips, falls on the floor, or we spill some drink from a glass on it. It's especially scary to take with you expensive smartphones When traveling, hiking, and often when visiting the gym, we left the device in the car so as not to accidentally damage it. The new Samsung GT-B2710 Xcover mobile phone is designed to be with the user in all life situations, from the start of a visit to the gym to the shower afterwards.
The good news is that if the phone falls, there will be no problems with its warranty service. Many have encountered a situation where the appearance of one scratch on the screen leads to a complete refusal of the manufacturer’s warranty. You can carry the new Samsung GT-B2710 Xcover mobile phone in the same pocket with keys, nails, and nothing will happen to it.

Many of us like to visit crowded places, concerts, clubs and try to always stay in touch. Most of us have already lost our mobile friends after a successful visit similar places and thought about the lost funds. The new Samsung GT-B2710 Xcover mobile phone does not fall into this category. The cost of a mobile phone does not exceed $150 even in the most expensive mobile phone store in the capital, so many of us will be able to purchase several of these phones instead of one expensive premium smartphone. New in the line of rugged mobile phones
Unfortunately, the secure solutions that previously existed on the mobile phone market managed to discourage users from purchasing these devices. Suffice it to recall the tourist versions of mobile phones from Nokia, which, although quite bulky, did not have complete protection from external physical factors, nor any necessary functionality, and the need to pay extra for pseudo-protection scared off many potential buyers.

Perhaps this is why, when we received the new Samsung B2710 Xcover mobile phone for testing, we treated it rather coolly. Big phone, without touch screen, and even costing less than $150, caused indifference among the happy owner of a smartphone HTC Desire HD2, purchased for $800. So our test participant lay in the glove compartment of the car for a long 1.5 months, until one fine moment, a day of active use HTC smartphone Desire HD2 completely drained it and it let me down at the most inopportune moment. The new Samsung B2710 Xcover was at hand, and its place was replaced by the discharged HTC Desire HD2, which still serves as a fashion mobile phone, and for everyday use 24/7 only a member of our Samsung review B2710 Xcover. Still this phone used with particular enthusiasm, over the past month I have visited ten different users, six of whom have already purchased a similar device as a second mobile phone.

The new phone is absolutely not afraid of bathing and manages to make and receive calls right in the water. After filling the speaker with water, it starts to wheeze a little, which is easily corrected by shaking it regularly and the phone becomes like new. After falling on tiled surfaces, there were no injuries left on the walls of the phone. There was one incident with the plastic cover of the battery compartment coming off after falling from the second floor of the building onto concrete - otherwise everything was fine.

The specifications of the device indicate that the device can withstand a thirty-minute stay under water. We kept it in a basin of water for three hours - the device remained alive without any hint of water getting into the electronic filling of the device. Device Specifications

The outer casing of the mobile phone is made of black plastic. As already noted in the article, our employees purchased six similar devices, four users chose a black mobile phone, two chose an orange phone, which is not available for sale in every store in the capital.

On the back of the device there is a recess for attaching a carrying strap, but this is only at first glance what it is intended for. This recess opens bottles well, while defects on its surfaces remain minimal.
Below is a two-megapixel camera protected by glass. The glass is apparently armored, since falls from a height and physical scratches are not terrible for it.
Opposite the camera window is the speaker grille.
Below all of them is the lock of the phone's battery compartment cover. It is made in silver tones. It would make more sense to have it made to match the color of the phone.

There is a button on the side of the phone to turn on the phone's flashlight. The flashlight is LED and emits a point beam of light. At the beginning of using the phone, it was difficult to find a use for it; every now and then it turned on in my pocket unnecessarily. The situation changed dramatically after it was necessary to find a lost part in a car. A point beam of light quickly helped to find the lost part, after which the phone's flashlight began to be used almost daily.
Below on the phone there is a micro-USB port closed with a plug for connecting a headset, charger or data cable.

Under back cover The phone hid a 3.7 volt battery. The battery life lasts for several days when used for 2 hours a day. After two months of use, the quality of the battery did not deteriorate in any way, but on the contrary, improved. Today we charge it once a week and not because it starts to signal that the battery is low, but because it is not convenient for us to walk around with the phone for a week and not charge it.

The device's menu is standard. Multitasking is well supported. For example, you can launch the music player and carry out any work on the phone. The phone has a browser installed, including Facebook and Twitter clients.""""""""a. Web surfing works great, although on a small screen size it is quite inconvenient.

The volume of the phone's speaker is sufficient, the device is equipped with a good vibration alert, which is an order of magnitude better than that of phones of the same price level. Available great opportunity working with contacts. In particular, this is a false call, the creation of blacklists. At the same time, everything works clearly and without any complaints.

The high ergonomics of the buttons deserves special attention mobile device. They are very easy to operate even in winter in severe frost. There were often times when dialing numbers and messages was carried out in twenty-degree frost with gloves on and without a single mistake.
While reviewing the device's functions, a pedometer and compass were discovered. The compass requires calibration each time it is used, so it can only be started when the user is stationary.

The quality of pictures from the 2 megapixel camera does not raise any complaints. The quality of the images is at the level of devices in a more expensive price segment.
The device has a built-in FM tuner. Unfortunately, we were not able to test it, since we were not provided with a headset for the device for testing. Deserves special attention GPS work With using Google Map. The device does not find the point quickly, but it does find it without fail. Conclusion
Telephone Samsung B2710 Xcove r has high quality and a wide range of functions that will not be in demand by everyone. With a device price of less than $150, it has no direct competitor in the market. The phone is perfect for both children and adults. Many people purchase it as a second phone for 24/7 use.
We were allowed to try to destroy the phone - we did not achieve this goal, and running over it with a car was not something we could do.
Our portal Mega Review gives the device a gold medal and recommends it to any of our users for purchase - no one will be disappointed.
