If you have forgotten your Windows 10 password and cannot be recovered, you can reset it. The reset instruction is no different from the one we used on older versions operating system Microsoft, with a few exceptions. However, owners can use it. different types account used to log in.
But before using the instructions, make sure that the password is entered correctly. You may not have forgotten it, but you are entering it incorrectly - uppercase or lowercase letters, Russian or English alphabet. If it does not help, go to the instructions, following each step correctly.

Reset your Microsoft account password online

If you sign in with a Microsoft account, you can reset your password in real time. To do this, you need to connect to the network, for example, by clicking on the connection icon, and go to the official resource of the OS manufacturer. And even if your computer is locked, you can change your password from any other device, up to a tablet or smartphone. The password for logging in is reset in a few steps and is not difficult even for an unprepared user of the system.

Copy to the browser address bar: https://account.live.com/resetpassword.aspx. Select the item regarding password recovery. The system will ask you to enter email address or phone number. Enter the characters from the picture and follow all the instructions step by step. If you're doing everything right, your Microsoft account will be restored.

If the phone and mail associated with the account are not lost, the recovery process is fast. In the last step, you will connect to the network and come up with a new account password.

Changing the password for a user using the built-in Administrator account

There is another way to change the password. To use it, you must have one of the following disks at hand: an operating system with full access, loaded from removable media, OS distribution kit of any version (from 7 to 10), recovery USB flash drive. We will show how to change the password using the system recovery disk.

The first thing to do is boot the operating system from removable media. When the language selection appears on the monitor, you need to call the command line with the key combination Shift+F10. If the manipulations do not lead to anything, select "Language" first, and then "OS Recovery". We need "Advanced options", which are selected in the "Troubleshooting". From " Additional options» Go to Command Prompt.

Enter these two commands in the same sequence and press the corresponding key (Enter):

  • diskpart
  • list volume

Executed commands will reveal everything to you sections of the hard disk. See which partition the operating system is located in. The letter may be different because you booted from the command line. To determine the partition with the OS, focus on its volume. Where there is more size, there is a system. For example, we have section D, everything may be different for you. Therefore, put your letter in the commands.

Write on the command line exit and execute it with the Enter button. Use the following commands, changing, if necessary, the letter of the partition with the operating system:

  • 1st. move c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe c:\windows\system32\utilman2.exe
  • 2nd. copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe
  • 3rd. After correctly executed commands, you need to reboot. This can be done using the same command line by executing: wpeutil reboot.

Now, when booting the OS, use the system disk, not removable media.

If you did not use the distribution disk, but something else, you must use the command line to copy cmd.exe, moving it to the folder with the OS (System32), and then call it a different name - utilman.exe.

After the OS has booted from the disk on the computer, you must enter a password. But you do not know him, so you need to use the "Special Features". Clicking on the icon will take you to the Command Prompt.

This is where we will change the password by entering the following command: net user user_name new_password. Don't know the OS username? Specify net users on the command line and you will see the names (name). If the OS username contains more than one word, enclose each word in quotation marks.

The second option to reset the Windows 10 password (with the command line already running, as described above)

There is another way to change forgotten password. Owners of Windows 10 can use it only in two editions - Corporate or Professional. For home version this method is not applicable.

In the command line, specify the following, one command, depending on the interface language (English or Russian):

  • net user Administrator /active:yes
    or
  • net user Administrator /active:yes

At the stage of executing this command or when the computer restarts, you will be able to select a user. Select the PC Administrator account and, without entering a password, wait for the OS to load. This will take some time.

When the system boots up, enter the menu " Start' and go to ' PC control". Select " Local Users" and separately " Users».

Select the user whose password you do not remember by clicking on it with the mouse. And specify a new password by clicking on the appropriate menu item. The system will warn of dangers and vulnerabilities. Check them out and move on.

Now, in a special field, enter a new password, having previously saved it more securely.

The second method, which we have just discussed, is not suitable for all types of accounts, but only for a local account. If your account is from Microsoft, use another method, the very first one. If that method is unrealizable for some reason, use this one, but taking into account some nuances. To apply it, you need New user PC. Log in as Computer Administrator and create it.

After successfully applied the second method, again use the command line to disable the built-in PC Administrator entry.

And again, on the command line, specify the following, one command, depending on the interface language (English or Russian):

  • net user Administrator /active:no
    or
  • net user Administrator /active:no

That's not all. You, if you remember, renamed cmd.exe to utilman.exe. The renamed file must be deleted from the OS folder (System32). And from the title utilman2.exe remove the number 2 ”, that is, the file should look like this: utilman.exe. The only catch is that these actions are not always feasible within the system itself. In this case, you will again have to use the Command Prompt by running it in OS Recovery mode. All you have returned to initial settings and you can log in to the Win 10 system with any account and with a new password.

Another way to reset your Windows 10 password

You can also reset your password in a third way. To use it, you also need one of three removable media: a system distribution kit, a disk for changing the registry, or a drive with OS recovery tools.

To demonstrate the method, we will use a USB flash drive with OS latest version. Follow eight steps:

After a successful operation, exit the Registry, the Command Prompt, and the Operating System Installer one by one. Boot the OS from system disk. At the time of loading will appear command line where you can reset your password.

Run the commands:

  • net user name new_password
    exit

You don't need to change anything in the parameters.

Hello.

And there is a hole in the old woman ...

Still, many users like to protect their computers with passwords (even if there is nothing valuable on them). There are frequent cases when the password is simply forgotten (and even the hint that Windows always recommends creating does not help to remember). In such cases, some users reinstall Windows (those who know how to do this) and work on, while others ask the first to help ...

In this article, I want to show a simple and (main) fast way resetting the administrator password in Windows 10. No special PC skills, no complex programs, and so on - you won't need it!

The method is relevant for Windows 7, 8, 10.

What do you need to start resetting?

Just one thing - the installation flash drive (or disk) from which your Windows OS was installed. If there is none, you will need to write it down (for example, on your second computer, or on the computer of a friend, neighbor, etc.).

At the big moment! If your OS is Windows 10, then you need a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 10!

In order not to paint here a voluminous guide to creating bootable media, I will provide links to my previous articles, where the most popular options are considered. If you do not have such an installation flash drive (disk) - I recommend getting it, you will need it from time to time (and not only to reset your password!).

How to create a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 7, 8 -

WITH throw administrator password in Windows 10 (step by step)

1) Boot from the installation flash drive (disk)

To do this, you may need to go into the BIOS and set the appropriate settings. There is nothing complicated about this, as a rule, you only need to specify which disk to boot from (example in Fig. 1).

I will give a couple of links to my articles if someone has any difficulties.

BIOS setup for booting from a flash drive:

2) Open the system recovery partition

If everything was done correctly in the previous step, the Windows installation window should appear. You do not need to install anything - there is a link " System Restore“, which you need to go through.

4) Additional options

Then open the section with additional options.

Rice. 4. Additional options

5) Command line

After that, launch the command line.

6) Copying the CMD file

The essence of what needs to be done now: copy the CMD (command line) file instead of the file that is responsible for sticky keys ( The sticky keys function on the keyboard is useful for those people who, for some reason, cannot press several buttons at the same time. By default, you need to click 5 times to open it. Shift key. Many users 99.9% - this feature is not needed).

In order to do this, it is enough to enter just one command (see Fig. 7): copy D:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe D:\Windows\system32\sethc.exe /Y

Note: the drive letter "D" will be relevant if you have Windows installed on the "C" drive (i.e. the most common default installation). If everything went as it should, you will see a message that "Copied files: 1".

Rice. 7. Copy CMD file instead of sticky keys.

After that, you need to restart the computer (the installation flash drive is no longer needed, it must be removed from the USB port).

7) Create a second administrator

The easiest way to reset your password is to create a second administrator, then log in to Windows under it - and you can do whatever you want ...

After restarting the PC, Windows will ask you for a password again, you will instead press the Shift key 5-6 times- a window with a command line should appear (if everything was done correctly before).

Then enter the command to create the user: net user admin2 /add (where admin2 is the account name, can be anything).

Note: After each command, "Command completed successfully" should appear. After entering these 2 commands, you need to restart your computer.

Rice. 7. Creating a second user (administrator)

After restarting the computer - in the lower left corner (in Windows 10), you will see a new created user, you need to go under it!

Actually, on this mission to enter Windows, from which the password was lost - completed successfully! Only the final touch remains, more about it below ...

How to remove the password from the old administrator account

Simple enough! First you need to open panel Windows controls , then go to " Administration” (to see the link, turn on the small icons in the control panel, see Fig. 9) and open the section “

I guess that not everyone may like this method (after all, there are all sorts of programs for automatic reset. I talked about one of them in this article :). Although this method is very simple, versatile and reliable, requiring no skills - only 3 commands are required to enter ...

This article is over, good luck 🙂

Unfortunately, without registering on the official Microsoft website and creating an account with a username and password Windows installation 10 is impossible. It is no wonder that in the end, many users begin to wonder: "How to reset the password on Windows 10?". With all this, such a procedure may apply to both the main Microsoft account and local "accounts". Let's see how to do it in the simplest way.

Problems with passwords and accounts

Let's start with the most important problem. Firstly, a person is not a machine, he sometimes tends to forget some things. If, for example, a person simply did not write down, lost or forgot the password set during system installation, logging into Windows at startup will simply become impossible.

Secondly, during the registration process on the same official Microsoft website, primitive combinations like 123456789 are not accepted for installing the system. Registration is designed in such a way that it is required to enter a certain combination, from a security point of view, difficult to crack or pick. Alas, this often leads to the most unpredictable consequences.

Thirdly, such passwords may turn out to be too complex or long, which, of course, makes it difficult to enter them at every start. And that is why many users want to abandon such a procedure. How to reset a password on a laptop (Windows 10 on board), desktop computer or mobile gadget? There are several basic methods for doing this. True, an uninitiated person, to put it mildly, will have to break his head a little, because not everything is so simple.

How to reset your Windows 10 account password online

Let's start with the simplest. How to reset a forgotten Windows 10 password that was once applied to a Microsoft account? Naturally, you should refer to the official resource of the corporation. No, of course, you can delete all the "accounts" on the computer, but the entry itself with its password will not go anywhere.

To perform this operation, you need to go to the official resource accounts.live.com, where you need to select the password change section. As a reason, you can indicate its loss (in the paragraphs there is a line "I do not remember my password"). After that, you will need to enter the address of the "electronic" or the phone number to which the "account" is attached. Upon receipt of the appropriate notification, all that remains is to follow the desired link and change the old password to a new one on the lock screen (if you do not refuse it at all).

Using administrative tools

In some cases, when solving the problem of how to reset the password on Windows 10, you can use the administrative tools. But only the system will have to be loaded using a flash drive or a disk like a LiveCD or the installation disk of the "dozens" itself.

After a window appears prompting you to select a language, you should use the Shift + F10 combination to enter the command line. Initially, we assume that the user knows the letter of the system drive. Next, you need to enter two commands, as shown below.

The download will take place from system partition(if this did not happen, you need to set the priority to BIOS settings). Then, in the password entry window, we use the accessibility section, where we write the command “net user New Password» without quotes (to view all users, use the net users command).

You will then be able to log in with the new password. If not used installation disk"tens", you should first make a copy of the cmd.exe file, place it in the System32 partition of the system drive, and then rename it to utilman.exe.

and command line

Now let's see how to reset the password on Windows 10 in another, no less effective way. Again, first boot from the installer and use the combination Shift + F10.

After that, we perform the above operations, but after the authorization window appears, we use special features, and in the line we enter net user Administrator / active: yes, after which we reboot the system. Now we have activated the superuser profile (User). We click on it, and then we set the phrase "Computer Management" in the search. Now we use the local users section, where we select our account. By right-clicking, we call up a menu with a password setting line, after which we save the changes made, despite any system warnings.

How to reset password 10) or other mobile device

In principle, almost all actions come down to using the same command line, only initially the device must be started from a bootable SD card.

But the easiest way is to use the built-in factory reset tools.

Is it worth doing stuff like this?

Naturally, the very question of how to reset a password on Windows 10 has a downside. How expedient is such a procedure? Of course, if this is a home terminal and no one else works on it except for its owner, there are no questions. If it is a computer or laptop included in the local network with several authorized users, it is worth thinking a hundred times before taking such steps. After all, sometimes you don’t want someone to change, say, local settings or used confidential information without your knowledge. In general, the decision is up to the user.

True, in almost all cases Windows tools, except for deleting the account, changing the password will not work. Here, as noted above, you need to use an external bootable media(flash drive, disk or removable memory card). In the absence of these, nothing will work. In this case, even the re-installation of the system does not always work. After all, with the activated “accounting” of Microsoft, “Windows” will still refer to it. It goes without saying that it can be deactivated, but the question of access through local registration data will immediately arise. However, it will not be difficult to remove them either (especially those that the system sets itself by default).

As for the removal of "accounts" that are no longer needed on local computer, then any user who has administrative access rights will be able to perform such operations. At the same time, sometimes it may even be advisable to remove the registration of the so-called super administrator so that you do not constantly have to run some processes on his behalf, which undoubtedly irritates many users. However, even here you need to be extremely careful, because if you have an active "account" Microsoft system even after such a procedure, she will turn to her. And where is the guarantee that the user remembers her login password? In general, what can I say? Be vigilant and do not do anything stupid, because then you will definitely have to reinstall the system, and no methods of influence in terms of recovery (rollback to the previous state) will help.

But with mobile devices, everything is much simpler, because it is unlikely that several registered users will work on one tablet or smartphone.

Sometimes you log in and realize that the account password needs to be reset. Well, you don't remember anything. Worst of all happens at loss of the password of the administrator. Good if using an account Microsoft entry, and you can request a change by phone or email, but the complexity of using this technique scares people away. And then you have to puzzle over how to reset the password on Windows 10.

You need to restore access through the command line installation media. No direct method in order to log in, but there is a bypass. The craftsmen themselves come up with these techniques, but it is possible that some information is posted on the official Microsoft website. Today we will tell you not about how to recover your password. This cannot be done in a normal protection system. But resetting the administrator password is quite possible.

Command line

The principles of working with the command line will be very useful. The fact is that we need the account name and the name of the computer itself. We bet that most of the users of this information do not know. And you can see it from the command line. In combat mode, we will call it from the recovery tool from a bootable USB flash drive, and now we offer the following action plan:

  1. Win + X to bring up the system menu.
  2. Selecting the desired line (including on behalf of the administrator).

Let's try a simple net user command. It shows a list of the names of all users on this computer. So it will be possible to overwrite the necessary when recovering the password. And at the same time and find out the name of the computer. Because the custom one is already present on the command line.

The next step may be to study a specific account. This is done in the following way. Type net user desired_name. A list of available information will appear. Please note that the computer alias is indicated in capital letters, but is typed in small letters. Actually there is no difference. You can type in both uppercase and lowercase.

So, for example, we see that there is no password on the guest account, but it is disabled on this moment not available. Finally, from time to time you will need to run the command line as someone else. For example, you have a global system administrator account, but you can't sign in to that account. But it is quite possible to start the desired procedure. This is done with the runas command. It will only work if there is a password, perform the necessary operations when logging into Windows. How to do this will be shown below.

Please note that when prompted, the characters you enter will not be displayed. It seems that something has gone astray, but this is an erroneous train of thought. Characters are accepted by the system but are not displayed on the screen. Feel free to continue restoring your laptop. The syntax of the runas command can be viewed in the standard way by adding /?. Here is an example:

  • the /user key says on whose behalf the launch occurs;
  • colon-separated computer_name\user_name;
  • the name of the program to run.

No spaces in the user key, otherwise the system will not accept the data. Empty password is not allowed. The default application names for the command line are cmd.exe. This concludes the introductory part, links to it will be placed later in the text.

You need to start from the installation media - a flash drive or DVD disc. Set the desired options in the BIOS, or use the F12 key (sometimes ESC) at startup. The second method is simpler, but does not work in all cases. In the BOOT section, put the desired media in the first place. This will ensure the correct download. Flash drives often do not get here, and therefore you have to use F12 (ESC).

On some computers, as you can see from the screen, pressing ESC is no different from BIOS. Be careful: you need to click only 1 time. Otherwise, the menu immediately disappears from view. Compare this screen with the one taken from the BIOS.

It may be different on other computers.

Run media

So, the priority of bootloaders is set on the computer, and we are 100% ready to reset Windows password 10. Please note that a module is installed on the disk that requires you to press any key for 5 seconds, otherwise the bootloader will turn on hard drive.

This will be followed by a screen for selecting the version of the operating system, if the media is multiboot. Please note that the 32 bit version of the command line is quite suitable for Windows 64 bit and vice versa. Do not worry, therefore, if there is no suitable version. Start with an existing one.

How to enter command line mode

We did not promise to find out the password from the computer, but you can reset your account information without any difficulty. After selecting the version, traditional windows will appear - the painfully well-known logo. Sometimes it’s even difficult to understand where the download is coming from - has the hard drive turned on?

As soon as the first meaningful window appears (usually this is an offer to select a language and some other settings), press Shift + F10. This will immediately open a command prompt window. Without any accounts, work goes from the carrier. Let's see if he has enough rights to carry out the necessary operations.

The essence of the events

Idea taken from Windows Server, but it turned out that it works on the top ten too. We will now change the Ease of Access Center applet to the command line. Therefore, when starting in the future, instead of asking us to enter a password, we will have a command line, from where it will be possible (see above) to perform all the necessary operations. That is, to administer and then log in, a new password is set on Windows 10. Compliant with domain requirements, if any. Let's get started.

Teams

We type the operation of changing the name of the applet to a neutral copy: move D:\Windows\System32\utilman.exe D:\Windows\System32\utilman.backup. The executable file has become a harmless ballast for the hard drive. Be careful, when moving, use the letter of the system drive.

The screenshot shows the complete sequence of actions, which we will not describe in the text. After the operation, you need to replace the utilman.exe utility with its imitation in the form of a command line launch. To do this, type the following text: copy C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe C:\Windows\System32\utilman.exe. There is no point in illustrating this, just type and execute. Type exit or close the command prompt and start rebooting. You can remove the distribution media, it will not be useful for now.

Working from the hard drive

After the reboot, a window will appear asking you to enter, but instead we click on the lower left corner, where the circle button is located Special abilities. Our command line appears, from which we will proceed further.
