Review

BOSE did not disappoint, the sound quality is excellent. The build quality is the same. I think the volume is good for its size. There is another speaker for comparison, JBL Charge - it is louder with similar dimensions, but it only picks up high and medium frequencies, low frequencies. are absent, unlike BOSE. I'm not a prof. musician, but I can feel the difference between these speakers very well. There is a negative point about BOSE - the lack of uniform sound at 360 degrees. around you. When the speaker is positioned at the end, and not with the speakers facing the person, the volume drops noticeably, there is a real feeling that you are listening to music from somewhere on the side, as if you were behind the sound waves. JBL, for example, does not have this, where the location of the speaker relative to the person is not important, the sound is the same at 360 degrees. The second point is the weight, the speaker is quite heavy. I admit that this is necessary, as already mentioned to combat vibration and due to the use of higher quality and more expensive components and materials. But since I often have to take the speaker with me, this is rather a minus for me. OVERALL: I recommend it this column for purchase by those people who care about sound quality and who will mainly use it in one place without carrying much with them, having the opportunity to correctly position it relative to themselves in order to reveal its full potential. Review based on the results of three months of operation and comparison with other existing speakers.

A portable speaker with an unusual layout that can help you have fun in a variety of situations; The strength of the Bose SoundLink Revolve is its sociality, which is achieved through surround sound, but there are other tricks, for example, a pair of Revolves can work together...

Design, construction

The popularity of the Bose SoundLink Mini has pushed the entire category of small Bluetooth speakers into space - now it seems to many that portable acoustics has always been on the market, but in fact only four years have passed since the appearance of the first Mini. The speaker was first tested in the USA and Europe, even by those who did not believe in the possibility high-quality sound at such a size, they were surprised and placed an order, then the fame spread to Russia.

I remember how I convinced my friend to try the Bose SoundLink Mini and even went with him to the store to dispel all doubts, he listened, was surprised and immediately laid out the money. The most interesting thing is that before the Bose SoundLink Mini there were many different small speakers on the market, serious efforts were made by a variety of companies - Nokia tried to get people hooked on such things ten years ago, portable speakers were made by Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Jawbone. But, people should be convinced of the need and capabilities of the device before paying - at some point a turning point occurs and sales reports skyrocket before saturation occurs. By the way, now is a strange moment when all self-respecting companies have portable acoustics, five or six positions each, speakers for business trips and get-togethers in the garden, protected or unprotected, ultra-compact ones for running and huge systems with Bluetooth that can help organize a small concert. And there seems to be no saturation yet, companies are quietly updating their lines, new names are appearing. Apparently, this situation will continue for another couple of years, together with Bluetooth headphones, the category is quietly growing, blooming and everything is fine - but for the consumer it is very important to choose the right thing in the sea of portables.

Here it should immediately be noted that in the case of portable acoustics price and the name of the manufacturer always matter and, even without hearing, it is easy to notice the difference. Therefore, I will not fail to repeat an important thought - before you pay, go to the store and listen for yourself with your tracks. Or listen when the courier from the online store arrives. They don’t charge you money for it, but you won’t be disappointed.

Bose carefully prepared for the spring-summer season of 2017, presenting three portable speakers at once: Bose SoundLink Revolve, Bose SoundLink Revolve + and Bose SoundLink Color II. The most expensive among them is Bose SoundLink Revolve +, the most affordable Bose SoundLink Color II. I’ll say in advance that I personally liked the Bose SoundLink Revolve + the most, but the usual Revolve, a summer hit, will sell with all its might. There will be separate texts about all columns for greater convenience for you, but I decided to start with Revolve. Another important note: Mini II remains on the shelf; the speakers are not discontinued. Nothing is known yet about the continuation. So, Revolve is simply an extension of Bose's "portable" line.

Just like in the Mini, and in many other Bose devices, good sound quality here is achieved through the use of a fantastic circuit - only one (!) wide-range speaker is installed in the case, working with passive membranes directed in opposite directions.

A similar scheme is used in Mini, only there the elements are located differently, there are speakers on the left and right, with passive membranes between them - the scheme in Revolve made it possible to obtain “surround sound”. The sound really surrounds the Revolve, creating a dense acoustic field, an incredible sensation, especially considering the size of the device. This is precisely the difference between Bose devices and gadgets from other companies - due to special design, it is possible to achieve not only some more or less high-quality sound for a small speaker. No, here we're talking about about special experiences, sensations from the track - I think any SoundLink Mini owner will agree with me. Even if you have floor-standing speakers and a complete set of equipment worth several million rubles, in a number of situations SoundLink will please you, be it a trip, a trip out of town, or anything like that. So Revolve continues the portable Bose story, just in a slightly different format. During the holidays we gathered around the table and Revolve showed itself perfectly, put it in the center, turned on a quiet radio, everyone was happy. He took it and moved it to a table in the garden. Then, when everyone went to drink tea, he took it with him. Together you can watch some videos on your smartphone with good sound, turn on the music and let others do it. And everyone around can hear it perfectly! If SoundLink Mini is a device for an egoist (by and large), then Revolve is a social thing, for companies, for families, maybe even for a small cafe or office. Place it closer to the center, turn it on, enjoy.

Now let's talk more about the design. The body is made of aluminum, with perforations closer to the middle. On this moment There are two speaker options, black and silver. I think black is very boring, I would choose silver. The speaker is weighty, about 660 grams, dimensions 15.2 x 8.2 x 8.2 cm. It will not take up much space in luggage; branded cases have not yet been shown.

On the top there is a traditional set of controls, selecting a sound source (Bluetooth or 3.5 mm), a power button, volume buttons, and a multifunction button. With its help you can answer a call or start a track. As a speakerphone, the speaker works without problems; at a short distance it is quite possible to talk. The Bluetooth button allows you to select already connected devices and quickly enter pairing mode. There is a voice notification system, including in Russian - the names of connected devices are spoken, the remaining charge time, there is contact synchronization. Now, when you call, Revolve pronounces the subscriber’s number if the contact is recorded in Russian. If written in Latin, then the subscriber’s name is announced, without a number. If voice prompts are annoying, you can turn them off. In general, the speaker can work well as a hands-free negotiation device or even as a device for impromptu meetings.

The device body is protected from splashes according to the IPx4 standard; there is no need to throw it into water, the speaker will withstand splashes. If the scenario with a swimming pool seems somehow exotic, let me remind you of the possibilities of using Bose SoundLink Revolve in the kitchen, in the bathroom, on a sports ground near the house, on the street near a country house - there are hundreds of places where, in theory, splashes could get on the device. So, Revolve is ready for water.

Finally, more details about the materials. In addition to aluminum, which is impervious to the blows of fate, hard rubber is used, the top and bottom are velvety, and Revolve stands on a massive soft leg. Interestingly, there is a thread for mounting on a tripod or other stand; this is not often found in portable speakers. Why is this done? Since sound travels around, you can buy a stand, attach Revolve, connect it to power and place it on the veranda for the summer to delight your family with good music. It seems like a small thing, but someone will probably like it.

Although, Revolve has no small details, Bose engineers have screwed up so many things here - you’re amazed. Moreover, this applies to both hardware and software.

Bose Connect

Like some other Bose Bluetooth devices, the speaker works with the Bose Connect program, and there are versions of the utility for iOS/Android. Using the program, you can update the speaker software, select Party mode, two devices work in stereo mode - for now Party only works with Bose SoundLink Revolve and Bose SoundLink Revolve +. I tried it, it’s a smart thing, the operating range is about ten meters, the sound is transmitted without delay. An interesting mode for companies where there are Revolve owners, you can voice a large area. Two Revolve + are generally more than enough for a hundred-meter apartment, especially if there is little overlap.

Using the app, you can change the device name, select a language, and quickly switch between your Bose devices. In general, you definitely need to install it - at least to update the software.

Working hours

The stated operating time is 12 hours, there are two ways to charge, microUSB on the back and an optional cradle, the contacts are at the bottom, to charge you just need to put the speaker in place. Charging takes about two hours.

Sound

As I said above, we're talking about emotion here - the Revolve has a very special sound for a portable speaker. If the gadget is playing in a large room and is hidden out of sight, it is difficult to understand where exactly the sound is coming from. Huge volume reserve, gorgeous low frequencies, great for electronic music, interesting to listen to jazz. There are no major losses, only positive vibrations. It should be taken into account that the speaker constantly receives updates, during a short test I downloaded new software once for both speakers, I did not feel a clear difference in the sound, but who knows, maybe the next firmware will improve the performance of the hardware.

Please note, Revolve works great with streaming services, be it SoundCloud, Spotify, any internet radio, but if you want better sound, try FLAC, good quality recordings in different programs. The device is capable of a lot. In addition to music, do not forget that with iPad Pro or another tablet, Revolve will help pump up the sound in movies, but if you connect it with a cable to the Nintendo Switch, you will get a unique Zelda experience.

conclusions

Pre-order for Bose SoundLink Revolve is already open, the cost is 14,990 rubles, on sale in Russia starting in June - the first owners will receive an excellent toy for the whole summer and the first months of autumn. Bose has come up with a wonderful “social” portable speaker with a great sound that just begs to go on the veranda, in the garden, on the street, thanks to the design it will not interfere with your suitcase when you go on vacation, there is nothing to cling to, the body is not afraid of impacts. Great sound in the hotel is guaranteed. Among the rough edges, I would like to note the strange behavior of the Bose Connect program with Revolve, but this happened at first with the QC35/QC30 headphones, then everything was fixed - now the program crashes in a number of cases on both iOS and Android. I would also like to determine the names written in Russian for an incoming call.

Otherwise, it’s a unique thing that can please the owner for many years; in terms of sound, Bose knows how to make long-lived things. Well, if after three years Revolve seems too heavy to carry around in a suitcase, then it can be screwed onto a tripod and assigned to a permanent place of residence in the country house or in the gym.

Currently, portable speaker systems are becoming increasingly popular. They are compact, convenient and can provide fairly high-quality sound. One of these products is. A review of this speaker will help identify its strengths and weaknesses.

“Smart” speakers appeared about 4 years ago and became very popular among users. When going out into nature or to the countryside, these are indispensable devices. They are practical and have good sound. But only BOSE came up with an almost perfect device.

Review technical characteristics and features of Revolve and Revolve+

The main feature of these portable speakers is their design. It is thanks to this that they are able to produce surround and high-quality sound. But the characteristics of BOSE Soundlink Revolve and Revolve+ also play an important role.

The basic characteristics of these two speakers are not very different. And although there is no data on power, it is reliably known that Revolve+ is much more powerful than a conventional speaker. And there is nothing surprising in this. It is much larger in size.

Now it’s worth talking about the speaker design. An overview of all its features is unthinkable without assessing the appearance of the product.

Design and appearance

Appearance data from portable speakers is a separate topic. BOSE designers managed to come up with a unique shape and make it attractive. In general, this form of speaker is due to the need to send a sound signal in all directions.

But the design itself is pure fantasy of the designers. BOSE Soundlink Revolve and Revolve+ are made in a minimalist style and have a cylindrical body. The material used is high quality plastic with a matte finish.

There are several color options: black and gray. This speaker also comes with an IPx4 waterproof housing. The speaker is not afraid of splashes, but dropping it into water is not recommended. The advantages of such protection are obvious: you can use acoustics near a pool or in a bathroom without any problems.

The compactness of BOSE speakers also plays a positive role. The speaker can be easily moved to any place in the house, and it will fit perfectly almost anywhere. The Revolve+ model is also equipped with a carrying handle, as it weighs decently.

On the top of both speakers there is a control panel made of plastic. There are all the necessary buttons and a microphone grille. Bottom part equipped with a tripod mount (which is very unusual). There is also a contact for charging via the docking station.

There is perforation around the body (at the location of the speakers). This is done to distribute sound throughout 360 degrees. The pattern is the same for both models of BOSE acoustics. Now let's talk about the sound of these speakers.

Sound quality

This is a very important parameter for almost all users. It is worth noting that the sound of these speakers is fine. The design of the speakers and the type of speaker have an impact. Both use a passive radiator with two membranes, operating on the principle of antiphase.

This approach helped achieve high-quality omnidirectional sound in the BOSE Soundlink Revolver and Revolver+. With help wireless connection You can achieve very balanced frequencies when listening to rock, metal and other instrumental music.

Low frequencies are quite clearly defined, there is a full range of mid frequencies, there is no dip in the frequency response. But best quality can only be achieved with a wired connection. And only with a high quality sound source.

For playback on these speakers, it is best to use studio recordings in FLAC format. Only then can you hear truly pure sound. The power of BOSE speakers is quite sufficient even for outdoor use. Moreover, the Plus version has more power reserve.

Connecting speakers

You can connect the speakers to your smartphone in three ways at once: using an NFC chip, a Bluetooth transmitter, or a wired connection (via a 3.5 mm jack). For the first two, it is possible to use the BOSE Connect application.

Connection via Bluetooth

This very application allows you not only to connect a speaker to your smartphone, but also to control playback through it. It is possible to use different modes. In the event that there are 2 or more columns.

Party mode. If you enable this mode, two BOSE Soundlink Revolve or Revolve+ speakers will play music at maximum volume, located at a distance from each other in order to fill the entire room with sound.

Stereo mode. When stereo mode is turned on, the application will distribute the channels between two speakers and you will get full stereo. The instruments in the compositions will immediately sound spacious.

Connecting Bluetooth speakers to a smartphone is intuitive and will not cause any problems even for novice users. No instructions needed. Everything happens by pressing just one button on the speaker control panel.

Connection via NFC

In the case of an NFC module, it will be enough for the smartphone to be in close proximity to the speaker itself. This connection method, by the way, is much faster and safer than using a Bluetooth adapter.

To connect, just bring the device close to the speaker and turn on the NFC option on your smartphone. Then you just need to allow the connection by clicking on the appropriate button in the request window.

In general, the NFC connection process may differ depending on the type of smartphone or tablet used to play files. For example, iPhone owners will not be able to connect the speaker using this method, since they only have NFC for payment.

Wired connection

Everything here is extremely simple. You need to connect the smartphone and the speaker to each other using a cable, at both ends of which there is a 3.5 mm connector (mini jack). This is an analog type connection. It can provide higher sound quality.

Working with voice assistants

By the way, the portable speaker BOSE Soundlink Revolve or Revolve+ can work perfectly with voice assistants on smartphones. It is possible to communicate with Google Assistant, Siri and Alice. Google and Siri work fine. But sometimes problems arise with Alice.

The column can also be used to organize a conference on speakerphone.

Nutrition

Inside the BOSE Soundlink Revolve and Revolve+ portable speakers there is a fairly capacious Li-Ion battery. According to the manufacturer, Revolve can operate for 12 hours on a single charge.

The Revolve+ version offers as much as 16 hours of battery life on a single charge. And this is absolutely true. The autonomy of this acoustic system is excellent. A full battery charge lasts for a whole day.

Equipment

The delivery package for these speakers is truly spartan. It includes the BOSE Soundlink Revolve portable acoustics itself, an adapter USB power supply, USB cable, mains power supply, user manual in different languages and warranty card.

The review would be incomplete without a description of the instructions. Oddly enough, it is written in simple and understandable language. With its help, even a person ignorant of technology can easily set up a connection and start using the portable instructions.

And the best thing is that the Russian language in the instructions is correct. There is no machine translation touch.

Advantages of portable acoustics

Each product has its own advantages. You just need to know how to highlight them correctly. The pros and cons outlined in the review help consumers make the right choice.

Conclusion

So what can we say about the BOSE Soundlink Revolve and Revolve+ portable speakers? This excellent speakers for use outdoors, at a party, in the country and in other places where full sound system very difficult to deliver.

These speakers have rich functionality, excellent sound quality, excellent build quality and can provide high-quality surround sound.

Having tested a dozen portable speakers, we learned to predict their advantages and disadvantages - even before we take the new device out of the box. Looking back, nothing could not prepare us for meeting Bose SoundLink Mini.

Here is the most amazing portable speaker we've ever reviewed. Possibilities SoundLink Mini many times larger than its size. And it's not about the features, but about the stunning sound quality. This minimalist, small oval thing plays in such a way that the pupils of those around you dilate, your pulse quickens, and the required amount instantly pours out of your wallet. Verified.

They did not expect

Bose– one of the synonyms for high-quality sound. The brand name comes to mind every time someone is looking for good acoustics for their home. Still on the pages website their mobile speakers did not appear, and it was decided to start getting to know them with SoundLink Mini.

SoundLink Mini forever changed our ideas about mobile sound and the capabilities of portable speakers. And not only ours. The entire RuNet is replete with similar reviews from buyers of the device. Shock, surprise, love from the first track - this is roughly how you can describe the first minutes of owning a speaker. In this regard, there is a question addressed to Bose's competitors: how can you even compete with this?

Equipment and design

The speaker's delivery package is almost predictable, with a small but very important surprise. In addition to the device itself, lying on a plastic pedestal, the box stores network cable, a micro-USB cable and a docking station with an inductive charging port. We'll talk about it and how much it means to the owner a little later. And now about the highlight of the program, sharp and aluminum.

Every second portable speaker on the market has a strictly rectangular shape. SoundLink Mini stands out against their background: instead of perfectly straight lines, it has curved, rounded dimensions. The case makes us draw a parallel with the front speaker from an expensive home theater set. The parallel, by the way, is not far from the truth. Comparing this speaker with portable speakers, even large ones, is almost pointless. There will be a beating of a person lying down, but not with hands, but with the force of sound.

All controls on the column are located at the top, in the center. Opposite the logo are all the typical keys familiar to owners of portable speakers. Power off, mute, volume control, Bluetooth controller and input source switch. All extreme buttons are recessed into the body. This is done in order to adjust the volume blindly. Or maybe just to brighten up the design.

The dark gray stripe between the logo and the keys hides the operation status LEDs. There are four of them in total. By the way, the speaker, given its size, is not a light one - 670 grams is still felt in the hands, at the same time instinctively arousing respect and confidence in the quality. Gadget lovers have this weakness: heavier means cooler. Old habits are difficult to overcome, also because of such little things that strongly confirm the correctness of the judgment.

The bottom is covered with a dense rubber stand, which successfully dampens the vibrations of the speaker at maximum volume and completes the picture that is typical of front speakers, but not portable ones. This plate also acts as a mount for the docking station.

The Bose SoundLink Mini comes with a plastic docking station with a plug for inductive charging. The latter connects to the corresponding port in the speaker every time you install the acoustics on the “pedestal”. By connecting power to the dock, the owner receives incredibly convenient Charger, continuing the best visual features of the column.

Instead of having to deal with cords every time, you can simply place the speaker in the dock, and then remove it and move it just as easily. Very comfortably. This approach allows you to hide the unsightly power cable away, behind furniture and other objects, leaving only the cradle in a visible place. It will turn out very nice:

Sound

Remember what the last portable speaker you listened to sounded like. And forget about it forever. Bose SoundLink Mini plays as if its speakers are three to four times larger, and there are at least five of them themselves. I think that the engineers who first assembled the prototype of this model felt the same way as Gagarin did at the time of his flight into space.

A small and austere speaker from Bose reproduces well as expected high frequencies without affecting the brightness of vocals or the presence of instruments. But then the real magic begins: we have never heard such detailed, varied midrange frequencies from mobile speakers. It’s generally scary about the lows: there is no separate low-frequency speaker, but the bass sounds amazingly decent.

Bose is in no hurry to expand on how they managed to achieve such sound quality. Most likely, the miracles come from the use of a proprietary dual passive radiator design. Thanks to it, SoundLink Mini reproduces low frequencies with unexpected detail, filling music with depth and variety that is unusual for mobile speakers.

This is exactly the speaker you need to listen to before jumping to any conclusions. Otherwise, there is simply nothing to argue and discuss about. Hats off to Bose.

Additional accessories and price

Bose's minimalist design can be customized with one of five colorful cases. Everyone knows the format iPhone owner: Essentially, these are silicone bumpers with colored stripes on the edges and a transparent protective wall. By choosing a bumper to match the color of the room, you can fit SoundLink Mini into any interior. And at the same time protect against falls from the shelf.

In addition to bumpers, Bose sells a branded survival-style case that will definitely appeal to the Tracer.ru audience. Really high quality and dense, with a pocket for cables and the softest inside, this case is perfect for transporting the SoundLink Mini over long distances.

The column is removed and inserted with force, clearly adjusted to the millimeter.

I've used many gadgets, but the Bose SoundLink Mini speaker has always been among the leaders. So, I'm thrilled that I had the opportunity to review its successor, the new Bose SoundLink Mini II portable speaker.

Bose SoundLink Mini II - Reviews

For two years I have been using the first model of mobile speaker, and it accompanies me everywhere. I use it at home, on trips and on weekends. I will not exaggerate if I say that the equipment has become very close to me.

Appearance of SoundLink Mini II

At first glance, the Bose SoundLink Mini II speaker is no different from its predecessor. We are dealing with the same anodized aluminum body. Its dimensions are 5.10 x 18 x 5.8 cm, and the speaker weighs only 670 grams. Compact size and its low weight allows you to use the speaker absolutely everywhere. This is completely mobile equipment.

The case consists of a single, slightly rounded piece of metal at the corners that surrounds the devices. Using a thin rubber gasket, a mesh was attached to the column, which prevents anything from getting inside. Its cells are small, but sand can easily pass through them. I learned about this hard during my stay on the sea coast.

To avoid scratching the coating and for stability, the speaker was made on very large rubber feet. Bose SoundLink Mini 2 has good adhesion, so that despite the very powerful bass, the speaker does not move. This is very important, especially during long listening sessions.

I know many speakers that, after a few hours of continuous play, simply fall off the table or countertop. Bose SoundLink Mini bluetooth speaker II, even if it plays very loudly, will stand like a rock and won't budge. This is one of those details that determine the quality of the equipment.

Bose SoundLink Mini II sound

However, the Bose SoundLink Mini 2 owes its stabilization to more than just its rubber feet. It is worth noting that the masking grid is located on both sides of the column. This unusual design move was due to the fact that the speaker plays in two opposite directions. The membranes vibrate in two directions simultaneously, so the speaker does not move in any direction. This is not only a very simple, but also an extremely effective solution.

Although I am not an audiophile, I will try to evaluate the sound quality. It is very close or matches the speaker previous generation. The sound is very loud and clear. For such a small device, the SoundLink Mini II delivers very good low frequencies, but there are no problems with higher sounds either. Vocals are a little worse to hear, but for a portable speaker this is excellent.

The sound from the speaker is exceptionally warm, but not exceptionally soft. The speaker has proven herself in almost all genres of music, but I think that the maximum of her abilities is demonstrated in rock music.

High class The Bose SoundLink Mini 2 is supported by the fact that the speaker was able to provide music not only for intimate gatherings, but also for gatherings around the fire or barbecue. I was not mistaken, this speaker will easily support a large house party.

What's changed in the Bose SoundLink Mini II

The truth is that everything mentioned above can also be written about the first model of Bose SoundLink Mini bluetooth speaker. It is worth noting exactly what has changed in relation to its predecessor. Firstly, battery life has increased from seven to ten hours. As a result, the speaker can play all day long.

Other changes can be seen after a quick look at the device's buttons. The first generation of speakers had six buttons covered with soft rubber, now there are only five. These are, respectively, on / off, volume down button, multifunction button and volume up button, as well as a button responsible for communication.

Using the multi-function button you can, among other things, stop the music, resume it, receive, reject a call and limit switch in between. The first and last versions of the speaker have LEDs that inform the user about the device's charge level and what type of communication is being used.

The Bose SoundLink Mini 2 portable speaker also has many commands that have been polished. If we add to this the fact that new column can be connected to several, up to eight devices simultaneously, it turns out that this is a very convenient solution. Moreover, in order to start playing music from another device easily and quickly. Simply stop playing music on the first device and start on the second.

The last and, in my opinion, most important change is that the Bose SoundLink Mini II wireless speaker can be charged via a micro-USB port. The previous model also had this port, but it did not support the charging function, so it was necessary to use a special connector and charger.

Bose SoundLink apps

The Bose SoundLink Mini speaker was a great product that had a few drawbacks, such as the inability to charge it using a USB port and the lack of a built-in speakerphone. The American company decided to release a hit by softly updating the product two years ago and making it perfect. Not only has it lost its annoying drawbacks, but it has also added new features and functionality that make it a pleasure to use. of this device.

Bottom line

If you are looking portable speaker High Quality and are willing to spend up to $200 on it, you should just go to the store and buy a Bose SoundLink Mini II. It is difficult to find such a stylish, colorful and well-made speaker on the market. This is the kind of equipment where you really pay for quality.

However, are the changes big enough to replace the previous SoundLink? Definitely not. The old column stands the test of time, and I have no intention of changing it.
