Functions and possibilities of telephones.

1. Speakerphone.
Allows you to talk to the subscriber without picking up the handset (Other names: hands-free mode, speakerphone).
There are three options for implementing this feature.
"Monitor" - allows you to dial a number and hear the answer of the station or subscriber without picking up the handset, but in order to start a conversation, you need to pick up the handset.
"Duplex speakerphone" - allows you to talk without picking up the handset, while you can talk and listen at the same time.
"Speakerphone half duplex" - allows you to talk without picking up the handset, with high volume and microphone sensitivity, but you can only talk to the subscriber in turn (either listening or talking).
2. Redial of the last dialed number (REDIAL).
By pressing one key, the telephone dials the last previously dialed number. If the subscriber is busy or you often call the same place, it is convenient to use last number repeat.
3. Tone and pulse dialing.
The phone can be quickly switched to the right way dialing. Switching from pulse dialing to tone dialing, as a rule, is carried out by pressing the " * " key (the asterisk is the bottom leftmost key on the keyboard).
It should not be forgotten that on most telephony there is a toggle switch for the ton / pulse dialing method.
4. Auto redial.
The telephone set on its own, repeatedly dials the subscriber's number several times. Auto redial only works when the speakerphone is on and is usually done in one of two ways.
Auto redial - the telephone automatically dials the number, after which it waits a certain time, hangs up the line and dials the number again.
Auto redial - the telephone automatically dials the number, after which it "listens" for the answer of the station, if the station gives out long beeps, then the phone turns on the speakerphone volume, if not, then it hangs up the line and dials the number again.
5. Indicator or display.
Displays dialed number, programmable numbers, call duration, time, operating modes and prompts. Indicators are liquid crystal (with low power consumption) and LED (luminous). Having a telephone set with an indicator, you feel much more confident, because you always know exactly what number your device is really dialing. In addition, it is possible to quickly find out how long you have been talking.
6. Auto-raise.
The machine automatically seizes the line when a call comes in, immediately or with a delay of several rings.
The answering machine needs this in order to say a greeting to the caller and record an incoming message.
Caller ID performs the auto-raising operation in order to issue a request to the station (short-term tone signal 500 Hz) and receive a response about the caller's number.
The auto-pickup feature is convenient because even in your absence, not a single call remains unanswered.
7. FLASH.
Used to request additional services at touch-tone stations or PBXs(call transfer, etc.). Can be used as line release when the FLASH duration is on telephone set exceeds the same parameter in the line.
If there is no FLASH button on the phone, a short-term (0.5-0.8 sec.) On the end call lever simulates pressing FLASH button.
8. Notebook.
Allows you to store several of the most frequently used telephone numbers in the machine's memory.
These numbers must first be memorized.
Calling a number from memory notebook is carried out by pressing one or two keys on the TA.
The notebook function can be implemented both by the phone itself (a phone with memory) and by an office PBX.
9. PAUSE.
It is used if there are functions of auto redial, address book and redial of the last dialed number (REDIAL). In some numbers, a pause in dialing is needed between numbers, for example, after 8 when entering a long distance or a pause before entering a password when calling over an IP channel. The programmed pause is automatically inserted by the device as a signal for a break in dialing, for the time during which the answer of the long-distance station should come.
10. SAVE.
Function of quick recording and dialing. The SAVE key is used most often when the subscriber you want to call is busy for a long time. Then, by pressing the SAVE key, it is stored in memory, as a result of which you can call other subscribers and periodically dial this number, and by pressing just one key.
11. MUTE.
Function to mute the microphone in the handset. Depending on the phone model, it is activated by pressing or holding this key. It is necessary when you need to discuss some detail so that the subscriber does not hear you.
12. HOLD
Designed to "keep" the subscriber with whom you are talking on the line.
After the first press, the far subscriber hears music, and you can switch to an extension phone or talk, so that the far subscriber does not hear the conversation.
Pressing HOLD again restores the conversation with the far end.
13. Timer.
Used to determine duration telephone conversation, is launched by pressing a key, usually after establishing a connection with the subscriber. When using your telephone equipment, You should always follow basic precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, etc.

In the section on the question Hello. What is the role of the "FLASH" button on fixed phones? Thank you in advance! given by the author Oleg Kozhevoy the best answer is transferring a call to an extension (if there is a PBX)

Answer from Al Re[guru]
FLASH - reset / hang up.
An analogue of the button on which the handset lies.
In tonal exchanges (for example, in offices), their functions are absolutely identical.
But in impulse PBXs (almost all of Russia, except for Moscow (499) and some PBXs of St. Petersburg), a short press on the handset lever does not break the connection (you need to hold it for at least a couple of seconds, otherwise there will be short beeps / silence). And the "flash" button completely terminates the connection in one click (after pressing it, a clear beep will be heard).
There is also a REDIAL (Re:Dial) button - repeating the last called number.
In imported phones, it resets the call and dials the number again.
In Russian phones, it only repeats the number (but the connection must be manually broken).
And "holding" a call (to hang up, and then pick up the phone on the parallel phone and continue the conversation) is the HOLD button. After pressing it, the indicator usually lights up and the voice in the handset becomes muffled or there is a melody.

Answer from Maverick[guru]
Used to request additional services at stations with tone dialing or PBXs (call transfer, etc.). It can be used as a line release when the duration of FLASH on the telephone set exceeds the same parameter on the line.
If there is no FLASH button on the phone, a short-term (0.5-0.8 sec.) on the end call button imitates pressing the FLASH button.
In short - you - and I - do not need it, rather.
-
For example:
Call hold =
The service of suspending a conversation by simply pressing the Flash button without disconnecting the connection. At the same time, you can hang up the phone, the device will remind you that the call is on hold with a short periodic signal.
Call transfer to another number =
Call transfer service during a call to another number. To transfer, you need to put the current call on hold (by pressing the Flash button on the phone), then dial another subscriber, wait until the called subscriber accepts the call, inform him of the transfer and disconnect (put a cabin). A connection will be established between the caller and the called party, and your phone will be released.
Three way connection =
This service allows you to call another subscriber during the current call and communicate with both subscribers alternately without disconnecting the connection. During a conversation with the subscriber (A), press the Flash button, then dial the subscriber's number (B). The subscriber (A) will then be in the "call hold" mode on the line. To switch between subscribers, if there is a need for an alternate confidential conversation with each of them, you can use the Flash button on your phone.
