Design and ergonomics

Today, large smartphones with large displays rule the show, and the ZTE Grand X Quad is quite in line with this trend. The device is moderately weighty, and its body cannot be called compact. Nevertheless, such a smartphone is very comfortable in the hand, especially if you are already used to models with a large diagonal.

The build didn't disappoint either. Of course, there are no metal elements here, as in top models, but there is a practical white plastic, on the surface of which neither scratches nor fingerprints are visible. Since the plastic is matte, the smartphone does not slip in the hand, and the front surface is entirely made of tempered glass.

Below the display are traditional touch buttons for Android smartphones, marked with a soft white backlight. And on top, next to the earpiece, there are proximity and light sensors, as well as a front camera with a resolution of 1 megapixel. This camera is not at all for show - when communicating via Skype, it is in no way inferior to simple built-in webcams in modern laptops.

The manufacturer placed the power and unlock button on the upper end, while the entire right side face is free. Given the solid dimensions of the device, it would be more convenient to place this important button on the right. In this case, it would be more comfortable to press it with your thumb, without making an effort to reach out.

On the left are the familiar volume rocker and a standard micro-USB connector. The latter is not covered by anything, so you have to protect it from moisture and dust.

On the back of the smartphone, a small insert made of transparent plastic with an uncomplicated pattern immediately catches the eye. On it is the lens of the built-in 8-megapixel camera with flash. We pry off the cover with a fingernail, and we get access to a 2500 mAh battery, two SIM card slots, and a micro-SD slot. Despite the fact that the smartphone has a collapsible design, even if you squeeze it tightly in your hand, you will not hear a creak. The lid is very tight and doesn't wobble.

The screen has HD-resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) and boasts very good sensitivity, wide viewing angles and rich colors. There is enough brightness to read the text in almost any conditions, fortunately, the summer sunny weather allowed us to carefully check this.

Subjectively, there is no special need for Full HD resolution with the available diagonal. On the contrary, it would negatively affect both the cost of the device and the time battery life.

Operating system and interface

ZTE Grand X Quad is based on Android 4.2 and will please fans of Android in its purest form. There are no branded shells here, and modifications by the manufacturer are minimal. In particular, some icons have been replaced and the lock screen has been modified.

Instead of the usual gestures, unlocking is done with a long hold. You get used to this decision pretty quickly. True, it will not be very convenient for those who often use the function quick start camera from lock mode.

Since this is Android 4.2, you need to enable access to GPS coordinates so that the unit can be used by A-GPS. The first time I determined the location for about 20-30 minutes. I already thought that I got a phone with a faulty chip. In subsequent launches of the location search, I found it in a few minutes.
