How to recover an unsaved word document

The autosave function will automatically save your working document after a certain specified period of time. Initially, in Word, this interval is 10 minutes, but you can set your own time for autosave. How to quickly access the autosave file location when you need to recover an unsaved document in Word? Today you will learn how to open the location of the auto-recovery file in order to restore a Word document if you have not saved it.

Step 1

In Word 2010 and 2013, click File - Options - Save.

In Word 2007, click on the Office button, which is located in the upper left corner of the Word window, then "Word Options" - "Save" and see where the directory is where Word automatically saves unsaved documents.

Step 2

Click File - Open, and open the folder indicated in the auto-recovery line.

Step 3

Open the list of available file extensions that will be displayed in the "Open" window and select "All Files". We are interested in files with the .asd extension, because one of these files is the very document that you did not have time to save.

If the document is new and you have not managed to save it yet, then it will have a name like “Autocopy Document 1.asd”

If you once saved your document yourself, but then, in the process of working, forgot to save it, then the autosaved document will have a name similar to it with the addition "Autocopy".

Step 4

Select your document that you decide to recover and click the "Open" button. In some cases, .asd files can be confusing. If this turned out to be the wrong document, then try opening the other documents in this folder one by one until you find the document you need.
